Depends on the width of the engine, how long the rods/barrels are. My 2275 with 5.7s and Superflo heads didn't. Had to modify the side tin in engine bay. Just me though...

To be honest, a 1600 can give you clearance issues as well, it's not just the width, the early bugs like yours came with shorter front & rear tins. We've done a 2275 with a short rod and come pretty close to the same width as a 1600, we've also done a few 2054 builds with short rod, stroker piston & machined the cylinder down which ends up a bit more narrow than the 1600. We can also modify and shorten the dual port cylinder tins which helps out a bit for the inside of the engine compartment but you still may run into valve cover clearance underneath even when using the stock covers and clips. The Porsche shroud is already a bit more narrow but both front & rear tins would still need to be cut, trim & modified. Here's a link to a split we did a while back with a narrow 2054cc, modified tins and stock valve covers, still was a tight fit, inside looked perfect but had to replace the worn out body to pan bushing in the rear and shift body back and fourth to keep it off the factory valve cover clips. Unfortunately the bottom line is-no guarantee on fitment with any after market engine, always count on some type of modification. Trimming the underside of the body may be necessary but not your only option. I’m not a big fan of the VW heater system but A1 Mufflers can modify a set of aftermarket heater boxes to the 1 5/8 & 1 3/4 tube size needed for these larger cc engines
