Yesssss girl!! This mama need some inspiration for my hoarded closets 😅😅 The weather did flip from summer to cold fall weather in our region!! Thank you for keeping us motivated!!
@@ArtyAntics I think in aus we have a varied climate from 5'c to 35+'c but we have one wardrobe add a cardigan for Autumn ( fall) or a jacket for winter.
I don't change out seasonal clothes. Everything is always in my closet. (Except winter coat & maternity clothing). I love jacket season though. Jackets are my favorite thing to wear. Because of that, I almost never wear long sleeve shirts because layered long sleeves are annoying to keep straight.
Hi Erica! ♥️ me = short; hubby = tall. I use the lower rack all the way across and he uses the upper rack all the way across. Then we share the long hang area. Works great for us!
It took me so long to watch this video because I had to keep pausing and going in my closet and getting rid of tops and jackets that I knew I didn’t wear any longer. Your video gave me the push to purge them and I have no regrets. It is freeing. Thank you.
You know that short summer dress that you kept in your fall wardrobe that you said would look great with leggings and a sweater? To complete the look, wear with tall brown boots- SO cute! I love your videos! You’re hilarious and real, not staged. I’d love to have coffee with you if I lived near you. You’re my favorite RU-vidr! Keep up the great videos. Can’t wait for your fall favorites video next week!
Why separate your long dresses from your tops with Andy's stuff in between? Perhaps you could move Andy's stuff to the left and your tops to the right. Your green bins would move right and Andy's top row would move left. Just a suggestion😉
Awww... You don’t have to wear old shirts with holes in them for pj’s. You could buy yourself a couple of lovely comfy nighties or pj’s from Lands End or Macy’s (on sale of course). You deserve to have lovely clothes. You do so much for others.💜🤗🙋♀️
Girls! While our husbands tend to think of us as the girl they married, rather than the woman we've become, they also do read the message our self care telegraphs. I'm in favor of sending a message that says "The beauty you chose still lives in here!" Buy some pretty pajamas! (Married 48 years)
Hi Erica! I understand wanting to hang most items. Sweaters get out of shape when hung, so I fold the sweater in half (shoulder to shoulder) and then drape it over the crossbar of the hanger. Works like a charm for me. Keeps its shape and no points on the shoulders. I forgot to say that you are doing so well. You have worked your tail off this year and I’m proud of you!! 🥰. This is my second edit... oy vey... I keep a folding stool in the closet because I can’t reach either...a couple bucks in Walmart and it folds out of the way.
So am I the only one who keeps all years clothes out in my closet year round? I have everything sectioned out: short sleeve tees, long sleeves, tanks, dresses, skirts, cover ups, etc. I do the same for my kids. I just put the current season more to the front.
Miranda Carr I have a tiny amount of clothes (if you have american standards) and I use everything year around, with a lot of layering in the colder months.
I do also. I dont have ANY closets in my home. The 1 I do have is in my kids room. My dresser holds ALL of my clothes. I keep tanks, shorts, bathing suits a summer dresses in a drawer together. Everything else has its own drawers. I couldnt imagine having to shift all of my clothes out every season.
I did this too until this past June and I love love love my paired down closet. It has reduced the feeling of “I have nothing to wear” even though I have so many options. When I have fewer options, but ones that I really love, I get dressed faster.
I absolutely LOVE your channel, Erica! You have worked so hard and have conquered your clutter...so proud of you. From when I started watching your journey to now, I just wanna tell you, I have really seen your growth as a person and it’s exciting to follow along with you. You seem soooo much happier and your enthusiasm is contagious! Keep it up, I’m rooting for you! Btw, as a fellow believer, your channel has really helped me see what is truly important in life, and it isn’t stuff. There is no better testimony than that🙏🏻🤗💕
Just a suggestion: consider changing our your hangers from the plastic to the flat velour type, they look so nice and all uniform, makes closets look even more organized. The velour ones keep clothes from slipping off, take up less room because they are flat. They come in a few different colors, main ones are black or tan and inexpensive at Walmart and even here in Florida the Dollar Tree has them. And, label those bins, missy!
❤️ U but......have fun with pj’s it changes your life😍 My husband picked out mine because he said what I used to wear reminded him of someones older mother! No more old T-shirt for me girl 😁
Have you considered moving all of your stuff together on the side with the dresses and moving Andy’s stuff to where the medicine side is. Have you considered adding some command hooks/thumb tacks/nails in that blank space between the shelves to hang your hats on or use an accordion folding hook? I think your stuff will better grouped together. Overall, you did a good job on editing and I love the bin color.
I LOVE dressing your truth! Fascinating book! I did it a few years ago and changed my whole outlook on clothing. Shopping isn’t stressful now. Erica, I have a feeling the color palette that you did is very similar to this system however Dressingyourtruth associates your personality type as well.
I love the pajama thing...old tshirts are the best pj tops! And I like that you separated tops and bottoms in different bins so you dont have to dig. Great, time saving idea.
I like that you said, "use, need, or love." So much more realistic for a family with savings goals than "spark joy." Of course, loving everything in the closet is the goal, but sometimes we get tired of our things after awhile but they are still functional and useful.
Hi Erica... You were exploding with happy, fun positivity in this video... So lovely to see :) Yes! you can wear cream skirts in fall.. Eg With leggings, boots and a jumper. If you have 4 seasons.. If you dress using the onion principle then you can keep your whole wardrobe for all seasons in your closet all-year-round! That is what most minamalists do because they have a "capsule" waredobe with fewer pieces. I also live in a 4 season place, and have reduced my wardrobe (no way minimal capsule yet) so I can keep it all out in my wardrobe all-year-round. Including eg ski wear etc.. This suits me because the weather is crazy so you can have hot and cold in the "wrong" season.. And I use the onion layering method because I tend to sweat quickly when it/I gets warm. I also have 3 wardrobes in my one closet ie 3 different sizes, due to my weight fluctuations due to burnout and depression.. I just put the sizes that don't currently fit in, in clear boxes in my wardrobe. I don't have clothes anywhere else n the house eg in a commode. Apart from having everything at your fingertips if there is a weather change (and not having to out something you packed away) ... No matter what season... You also don't have the annoyance of having to "change out" your clothes in your waredrobe each season or "find an alternative storage place" for the clothes that you "don't think" suit that season!
perfect timing! I'll follow your lead. This is the first time I've re-organized my closet in a looooong time, so it'll take extra time to get thru. Thank you!!!
I used to sleep in old clothes until I realized that I never felt good in them and I missed putting on actual pajamas. Now I love my pajamas, I feel good getting ready for bed and it helps my brain to get into bedtime mode because I'm not just wearing regular clothes. Wearing worn out clothes never feels good; even if you think it's just for sleeping, no one will see. You deserve to feel and look good even in bed!
Thank you for always keeping it real and fun! I just downloaded the Home Edit Audible book. I just did a bunch of laundry so now is the perfect time. 🙌🏻
I had to stop the video midway to say-have not heard of the netflix show but now I am going to find and watch and also-I'm totally inspired to tackle my closet now! Now back to the video :)
Maybe you could put all of andy's stuff on the taller hanging area? Instead of splitting the closet in half vertically, side by side, you could split it horizontally, his on top and yours on bottom? (Besides the long hang stuff which would go on the side). Just a thought?????
Get a set of shower curtain rings from the Dollar Tree or other inexpensive store and use them to hang your scarfs. Put them on the bottom of a clothes hanger and it makes it much easier to take just one off the rack.
I love that you didn't put a number on your clothing. We have four seasons where I live so, we have to have clothing for each. It use to stress me out trying to minimize tons certain number. Now I just use containers as the boundaries as that really helps. :)
Girl, you can wear whatever, whenever! I have 2 sets of shirts and several cardigans. One category is nursing shirts, the other is not nursing shirts. The latter divided into short and long sleeved. I wear everything I have all year round. So, if you like that skirt, wear it!
I had my colors done too and am also a Spring. What I do with the base colors is I use beige and white in the summer and brown and navy the rest of the year.
I looked away during under garments. :D I do the same thing with old t-shirts and also wear my honey's shirts...so comfy. When you say you are in the rental temporarily...how long? What about using some S hooks to hang hats and scarves on the high rail and have a little step stool so you can easily reach, also your purses could hang there
You should put your summer rotation clothes on that higher shelf. It's good storage and you'd only have to get up there twice a year to rotate. You could use a few of those fabric baskets to store the clothes so you don't see them and it won't look cluttered
Always trying to streamline my closet. I attempt a capsule wardrobe. I also use a color palette. I wish I had the funds to ditch it all and start over, but that isn't reasonable. Huge change for Hubby and I, is we both share the same dresser now. We declutter his dresser and made more space in our bedroom. We took so much to the thrift store. Feels so good to open the drawers and closets and know we wear what we have and don't have items collecting dust. Great job Erica!
You should hand a shoe organizer on the back of your closet door too I have a hanging shoe organizer that is on the rod, I love grabbing shoes I want to wear without fumbling through them on the floor.
I found a tip on pinterest a few years ago , you fold the sweaters in half lengthwise then drape them over the top of the hanger like you would wear a shaw. So the neck of the hanger sits between the arm and the torso. I love this so much! No more stretch out shoulders, and no wrinkles from being folded. I have a bunch of open front cardigans. Too many for my dresser so this has been my go to way. Even got my girlfriend's into it. I have used many types of hangers and this works. I currently use the velvety/ huggable hangers from Costco. They save space and give a very uniform look. 😁
Also, get a few clear shoe drawers from the container store to keep the dust off your dress shoes and purses. The drawers are great because you can stack them. Also, take those uniforms out of the dry cleaning bag and get a nice, breathable hanging bag to preserve them and keep them dust-free.
Isn't it great to get a job like that done? Looks great. I was thinking it wouldn't be much work to swap your stuff to Andy's side on the right so your clothes are all in one section. That way you could also put your skirts with your long hangs, so all your bottoms would be in one section. And if you minimized PJs to 2 sets, they would all fit in one box and you still wouldn't have to dig around. Then you could put your tanks in the other matching box so your side of the closet would be all matching. Narrowing your colours sounds like a great idea to help with decision making. 👍
Erica, use the open space above your canvas boxes! Hang purses from S-hooks or buy those wire baskets for under the shelf and they can even hold a second and third row below! Get at Walmart/Lowe’s/Home depot
You are absolutely fabulous. What stores do you usually do your grocery shopping at? Do you ever stock up on water? Can you possibly do some in store grocery shopping videos? It would be awesome if you could show how you do your full shopping
Erica: “Can I wear cream in the fall? Probably not!” *Me looking at the long cream skirt I am wearing* 😳 *Me looking at the three other long cream skirts hanging in the closet waiting for me to wear in fall*🤫
😂😂😂 I think it’s the material of my skirt that’s making me save it for spring. I have cream sweaters for fall so I think cream is fine. The skirt I have is thin.
💐 WOW AGAIN ERICA!!! 😊👍 I just love seeing your continual progress! Here is my version for simplicity in my life. I’m 30 some lbs. overweight (all in the wrong place- behind me🤨) Anyway, I can’t stand making things complicated. So I wear white leggings and white shorts (stretchy) in hot months, and black leggings in cold months. I don’t like dark colors near my face, so I only wear pastel colors for sweaters and tops (long, that try to cover the back trunk!) It makes it so much simpler to get dressed. I only have things in my closet that fit me now and they are all stretchy so I can gain or lose weight and not worry about fit. I feel that if I only wear pretty pastel colors near my face and always at least wear lipstick and blush, I look a little more pleasant to look at! 😁. Keep up the good work!!! 🌸👍👏
If Andy is the only one that can reach the top, why not have all of his things on the highest rod and all of yours on the lowest rod? Except for dresses. Would that work and keep from having wasted space?
Hang a pretty picture above your new bins to fill the space 😊 Also The Edit would definitely have put the scarves with the purses as an accessories section.
Yay! Been waiting for this one, can’ wait to watch it, I’ve already pushed that 👍 OMG 35 seconds in I LOVE THE HOMEEDIT!! 🤩 this video is going to be 🔛🔝🌟🌟🌟 Great job Erica! Your part of the closet looks perfect! Would love a follow up in a couple of months on how you’ve kept up with it 😃
Loved the home edit. I had watched their series master the mess awhile ago on youtube. So I was excited they got a Netflix series! Side note I sorted my phone apps by color as per their insta post...its surprisingly so efficient! And my phone is so beautiful to look at.
If you need access to the higher rail keep one of those plastic steps that folds flat in your closet. They’re very inexpensive. Well done with the organising.
Get a little step stool for your closet that folds up and you can utalize the top rack. Maybe put jackets and scarfs up there. I have a few one step stools around my house cuz I’m short. I even use one to get on my exercise bike! 😂
Switch sides with Andy so you can have all your stuff together and he can use the double hanging rods since he’s taller. And I think that jacket looked good. Not too snug if your wearing a thinner top under it. You could also move the buttons over a smidge, I’m just saying since you seem to be fond of it. 😉
I'm working on setting up rotations for a lot. My closet is on my radar to do soon. I'm drafting closet goals soon. The book rotation sorted by seasons is already magical. The toy rotation is being set up next time the grandparents take the toddler. I'm so excited.
Such a good session!!!! I don't have a seasonal change-over, all my clothes fit in the cupboard/dresser. It is too much for me to deal with twice a year. I have totally categorised all my stuff, bc it means I don't forget about things.
Nice! I need to do this! I have all of my scarves on my dad’s tie rack. It has little wire loops sticking straight out that I just put my scarves thru. Some I cut up pink foam curlers and put on the wires to help with creases. Go raid your kitchen for plastic food containers to coral all those bandaids and get rid of boxes. I sorted mine by size in a flat sq container and works perfect. Plus my brain sez it helps them not to dry out as quick. No scientific proof of that but that’s the story I’m going with! 💜🌸. Hugs from Ohio!
So glad someone else asked this! My older sister got her colours done when she was a teen but by the time I got to that age it seemed it had gone out of fashion and the person who did it had stopped and so I missed out on it.
Thanks for the inspiration. It has happened, that the first snow was on the ground and I had to hunt through bins to find my winter clothes😂. You might already be aware of Cas from Clutterbug. I would highly recommend checking her channel out. Her approach is different in regards to Home Edit, because she helps you find out what type of organization person you are. You would be surprised. Love your videos.
That jacket looked really nice. Would you do it up anyway? That big piece of empty space, could you find some of those hanger loopy things like from ikea and hang your scarves and belts from it?
I think you would look really pretty with some navy blue or dark maroon glasses. When you're prescription is up you should look into some fun colors that go with your color chart. The closest looks good! I have also been watching the home edit as well and really want to do something with my pantry because it's kind of a mess right now.
Yes Cream is fine in the fall. My mom always told me just not pure white. Off white is fine. But then is that rule even still followed? I know you said you don't need it - but you could get wire baskets that hang from those wire shelves. I use those in my laundry room and love them.
Maybe those x3 light green bins wpuld be better on the medicine shelf at around the same height and you can just give andy that hanging area since you cant reach it anyway and theres plenty of shelf on the medicine shelving
Glad I don’t need to do this. I’m hot all the time. I don’t own anything long sleeved. No sweaters or pj’s. i have 1 winter jacket and maybe wear it twice in our winter. Great organizing it looks good.
We have a whole portion of our closet we don't use cause I can't reach either. I have some larger jackets(winter) that are hung up on the second row where hubby can reach if I need one but otherwise I stick to a small bottom section and a medium dresser. No bins.
