I just started with painting and 3D modelling / sculpting and I instantly realized that my work was missing something when it came to clothes, curtains or hand towels. It was clear to me that I do not get the folds right. Your video really helped me a lot to understand what I did not realize about folds and fabrics. Thank you a hundred times 🌻

I was skimming through your video and saw something that caught my eye. you pulling the cloth at a very concentrated point and i was like huh wonder how thats useful. then you proceed to show how its useful. AccuCuve. I love you. years of using only DamStandard to shoddy results and here you are with the move brush and a button turned on. damn

"buckling" is also misused here. the segmentation of the bigger folds is because the fabric is too soft to hold up its own weight, the deformation is in the same direction as the force applied (vertically). so it "broke into 2 smaller groups of fabric that is able to hold its own weight horizontally separated by a abrupt point in the middle.

how would be a good approach to create those very tight folds in zbrush? those that are kind of hiding cloth underneath and are hard to make it sculptable because its too close... for example in 13:21 the bottom of the trausers make those tight folds. SAme happens with eye lids, how to make them when they are inside the skin (eyes open). thats something i always wondered. i guess is it just by masking(even if it will be even hard to mask that area? or there are some tricks to make it simpler?
@Outgang
@Outgang Год назад
That's a great question, thank you Ruben. If you look closely at most artists doing hand-sculpted cloth you'll see that most don't bother sculpting overhangs, it's hard to do. Best way is pretty much what you described, create a mask and pull the unmasked surface over the masked surface. For eyelids, most artists will just sculpt the upper eyelid crease with a really sharp brush but there too, masking and pulling the surface over itself leads to a better visual result.

do leather have a memory folds then? If you say that memory folds is a point of material failure like buckling point, I assume leather will not have any memory folds also?
@Outgang
@Outgang 3 года назад
Leather definitely can have memory folds. The leather jacket I'm always wearing got a bunch of them in the elbow area. From what I've seen, the thinner the leather is the more easily it imprints.

*Physics* *Gravity* When you drop an object (On Earth), at any given point, there'll be both gravity and air resistance. Gravity: A universal force in space (Earth is also space) which pulls two+ bodies together. Equation looks like this: F = (G*m*M)/r^2 F = Attraction G = Gravitational constant m = Mass of body one M = Mass of body two r = Distance between center of bodies Air resistance: The air molecules beneath/ between the two bodies being pushed aside by the two colliding bodies. I don't know the equation for this You'd subtract gravity with air resistance. Temperatures will also have an impact on air resistance, I suppose. (That's how hot air balloons work) I imagine air molecules will be trapped beneath the clothing, whenever motion happens, which will create folds. *Waves* All waves behave the same, be it sound, light or water waves. They spread out in circles or spheres and can create interference with each other. Waves have negative (Valley) and positive (Hill) amplitudes. When interference happens between two or more waves, the amplitudes at the collision points will either amplify, subtract or cancel each other out depending on where the waves hit each other. When a wave hits a wall, it'll bounce back, creating more interference. If the wall has one or more holes in it, the waves will continue on the other side, however the bigger the hole, the less it will bend on the other side. This is called diffraction.

Gravity is a force, people has mis conception, but dont replace it with another misconception. Neil deGrasse Tyson never say its not a force in that clip. I am a 3d artist in Game indutry and i studied Physics in Uni.

You need to really study physics before speaking of them without understanding them. Just as an example, you say gravity does not form folds but normal does (yeah the thing you was unable to name). But without gravity there wont be any normal force to form the folds.
