MAY NOT BE HELPFUL, but when I told my ma my want to start cloth diapering, and I said how much they were(like $20 for 6 COVERS, not even inserts) she told me how she would fold up hand towels and safety on them on me. I hope you can get some, everything for covering butts is expensive cloth or disposable, but disposable is atrocious on the wallet. I don't know if I was any help, I doubt it, but in a pinch or in a bad scenarios find something thick and safety pins.
I found a huge bag of 24 brand new cloth diaper at my local thrift store with 30 inserts. No stain, white and super clean. I went to the cashier and asked for the price and she said 3$. I still can't believe it.
I am a new mom to be, we are expecting our sweet girl at the end of January 2024! I have been so overwhelmed with trying to research all things cloth diapers and I’m so glad to have found your video!!! A huge, huge help and step by step. Thank you! And I love the links you provided, amazing products!!
You just helped me to make the decision to cloth diaper! Thank you, not intimidated anymore.😊 Since there’s a massive formula shortage right now, it got me thinking that cloth diapering was the best way to go. Plus, saving tons of money will help! My last pregnancy was 18 years ago, so this all feels brand new again. Thanks again for the most realistic diapering video out there! 16 weeks pregnant with daughter #2, 38 years old!💞😊
Beautiful story and congratulations on your new baby. Wow starting over after 18 years, I think that's incredible 💜 my last baby was 12 years ago and now I'm pregnant with #3 she'll be here soon, I'm due July 9. I'm also cloth diapering for the first time. Congratulations again!
Agree! I'm pregnant with #2 after 7 years 😫 I formula fed my 1st but with the formula issues I'm going to have to breast feed and I don't wanna spend all the money on diapers like I did before. So I have a bunch of neutral cloth diapers until we find out what we are having! 😁
Kelly, 35 years ago we had no disposable diapers or baby wipes. Wash clothes and rectangle absorbent cloths and plastic pants. You gals these days are so lucky. Your colorful diapers are very cute.
I used Pampers in 1968 when my daughter, now 51 was born. I would only use them when I took her to the babysitter for me to work. At home however, I always used cloth diapers.
Kate Harrop I used Pampers 35 years ago. My daughter was born in 84. They’ve been around for quite some time. Wanted to add, I also had a cloth diaper service. This video is very good.
some regions may not have had the same access to products or they were cost prohibitive to most in the area so the stores may not have carried them the same as we had. remember there are places in the way out that are very different than where you live. before the internet you could only get what you stores had , catalogs or the tv 800 numbers. just be reminded that some places in 35/40 years ago were still the boon docks. in the late 70's a new family moved to town and the had never had refrigerated milk. they had only ever had evaporated milk in the cans. watched the open the can with one of the openers that made a triangle, pour out milk into a bowl of oatmeal and then add tap water. it blew my mind. they just didn't have "regular" milk where they were from.
I'm 5 minutes in, and already shocked. I've been picking up secondhand diapers when I see good cheep ones, I had no idea I could get away with having so few!! Im only 21 weeks, just doing my research now, wow.
The family I used to nanny for used cloth diapers and they bought them used and used them for both of their girls and they lasted for a while. She would sew any that started to come apart. It was a little weird at first, but I do like them better than regular diapers and the girls rarely got diaper rashes and they lasted longer than a regular diaper. I highly recommend
My six month old is cloth diapered and she has had maybe one or two rashes and they cleared up fast, too. I mostly use the pocket style and right now I like to padfold a flour sack towel and use that as my insert inside the pocket. I also use 5 layer charcoal bamboo, but am sometimes having leaks with those after doing research I wouldn't recommend 5 layer charcoal bamboo inserts and instead would recommend some sort of cotton to anyone new.
I loved your video. Im 6 months pregnant and Im considering using cloth diapers but the washing part was really hard for me to picture on my mind. So this was incredibly helpful
I’m expecting my first baby in December and definitely want to use cloth diapers but felt overwhelmed when researching. Thank you for making such a clear and concise video! I’m now feeling excited about cloth diapering instead of overwhelmed.
I've finally switched to cloth diapering during the day after 2 months of constant diaper rash that came and went.. I'm only going to use disposables during the night until I'm completely comfortable with using cloth diapers completely and honestly I feel like I made a amazing choice for my daughter and her skin
It does get expensive. I have twin boys and they’re in different sizes. Sawyer in 4 and Hunter is in 5 sometimes 6. It’s about $30 a box. Plus wipes are $20
awesome and helpful video. i'm pregnant with my second child and initially wanted to use cloth diapers. too many people told me it "was gross" , with my first child, but i'm determined to use them this time around. i love that it's environmentally friendly AND cost effective
Here l am a GRANMA, watching this vid! Still learning at this age. I just heard Rayland agree with her mama ! Good habit baby girl, agreeing with mama!💞
I don’t have kids and don’t plan on having them for at least five years. I was just really curious about how they work. Thank you for the informative video 😊
My personal preference/favourite are diaper covers with a bamboo insert that I fold in a "receiving blanket" type of prefold. Works amazing for my chunky heavy wetter during those nap times or nighttime a when they tend to leak for us with the pocket diapers during those sleep times. (Just what worked for my specific baby) :)
I'm so glad I found this video! As a new mom to be in early 2025 and trying to help the planet, I was getting so lost with options and advices. Thank you :)
We are expecting our first baby in the fall where I will be the primary stay at home parent. Wish me luck, I need all the help and advice you can share!
How did the cloth diapering go? I am currently 6 months pregnant with our first and researching into this! Any tips now that you look back on the experience?
I clothed with my first, ten years ago. She was born 16 weeks early and her skin was so sensitive, any disposable I tried on her skin immediately rashed. I loved cloth diapering. It took some getting used to at first but was well worth it and was easy to get into a routine with them. I used all kinds of different brands. I loved them all. They are so soft and cute. My daughter loved them as well. 😊
I'm looking into cloth diapers for my granddaughter. I used them with my daughter but things have changed. Diapers are pretty sold out everywhere because of the Coronavirus, so I'm going to go back to cloth diapers for my house and save the disposable diapers at my house for my daughter's house.
I'm never going to do this. but I watched so many videos my last pregnancy . And now I'm pregnant again and I'm watching videos again. I find myself intrigued but I know it's not a process for me lol I just like to look at them too, they're so cute !
Woahhhh cloth diapers have come a long way since i used them in early 90s! Back then it was still only prefolds and diaper pins, and a basic plastic diaper cover. Needless to say it was not a very nice thing. The elastic on the cover was raw and irritated the skin, the plastic would get wet and sweaty and wear out, it was all big and bulky and generally gross. We had probably at least 40 prefolds, and at least a couple dozen plastic covers. There were also disposable "liners" you put in them that looked more like dryer sheets than anything else. And diaper pins...now that takes skill! Todays new parents would be horrified at the old cloth diapering.
i have a little one due in 6 months and i’ve been trying to get my boyfriend on board with these cloth diapers and you explained everything so good that now he’s completely on board with this video, thankyou so much for all of your help 😂💘💘
When he sees how much money you guys aren’t spending on disposables you both won’t look back regardless of the tasks involved .....nothing all that bad that you don’t deal with disposables anyways!
I've been cloth diapering for about 3 and a half months, I mostly love it. I mean it is added laundry, so the laundry can be a little much at times but overall I like it. I watch everyones videos to see about other brands and inserts and see if I might pick up some new info. I have a pretty varied collection so far. I mostly use pockets. I've ordered some Texas Tushies covers to try but they were on pre-order I got one in a Halloween print and one in a Christmas print to try. They haven't arrived yet, though. I've never tried Green Mountain Diapers, yet.
@@laurenmaher127 I feel the same about electricity bill as well but we will be saving money by not buying disposable ones so it could work out the same or cheaper, especially if you will cloth diaper more kiddies 😊
Thank you so much for this video!! I'm currently 6 months pregnant and have been contemplating cloth diapering! This was so simple to follow and seems attainable now!
Hi Kelly thank you for the cloth diaper training video. My son and daughter-in-law expecting baby boy in April and she has stocked up on cloth diapers. Back in my day LOL I use cloth diapers on my kids too cuz my first son had reactions to disposable diapers back then and those days they put a stent in it and I think that's what Prodigy skin. Being the fact that all the shelves in stores have no cloth diapers call Stivers at the best way to go. It'll take me a couple times practice. Back in the olden days we had to use pins which I hated. So one side Master this when I babysit I will be fully knowledge on today's modern day diapers LOL thank you so much for sharing this it was perfect timing I sure will be here around April 11th but I'm his dad's birthday if we're lucky LOL have a blessed day.
I loved used cloth for my son!! I definitely saved money in the long run. I kept his diapers just in case if we have a 2nd and gave some away! I enjoyed the kawaii brand (i think thats what they were called)
Girl, I was so overwhelmed when I first started. I had tons and tons of inserts, prefolds, AIOs, just everything! I bought SO much, it was unnecessary, I gave half of them to my cousins when their baby was born, and still have so many. I made the mistake of buying newborn diapers, which I would recommend a few of them if you can afford them, just because babies are so small at first and in my experience, the diapers swimmed on her the first month or so, but they aren't necessary if you have a bigger baby!
I highly recommend a few more than this we go through about 8-10 a day with my 5 month old! We have built a stash of about 50! We love anmababy, alvababy, and babygoal! All are identical! Also formula poop is NOT water soluble sadly.
@@Gemness yes I formula feed my daughter! Only exclusively breastfed poop is water soluble the minute they consume formula purées or regular food it is no long water soluble.
@@Gemness I wash off all the solids and ring them out and throw them in the wet bag to be washed later it’s tough In the beginning but it’s so so rewarding! Once you get a routine down it’s smooth sailing from there!
@@mommyoftwo8279 thank you for the feedback! I was wondering how would it be done with different types of BM and how it would be washed and cleaned. Still a little confused but I have time to research 😅
Thank you so much for this! I am about to have my second baby and am going to give cloth diapers another try. This is so helpful! Your baby is precious! 💕
Thankyou sooo much for this video. I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant and getting organised and we want to cloth as much as possible. This has been soo helpful x
I cloth diapered my daughter from the day we got home from the hospital until she started potty training. So a little over 2 years. I loved it and my favorite thing right now is that my daughter is using her newborn cloth to diaper her dolls!
I can remember my mom telling me when my siblings and I were babies she used cloth diapers on us the cloth diapers have come a long way since when I was a baby.. a lot easier to use now.
Love all of this info. My youngest is 14mo and I am just now switching to cloth. I do plan to use Melapower detergent for my cloth diapers as it's biodegradable & non toxic.
I appreciate this video! I've always been very curious about cloth diapering to reduce disposable diaper consumption, and your video helped me see that this is totally doable!
I am planning to cloth diaper mainly because of environmental reasons. I don’t want my babies to grow up to inherit a world that we have ruined with trash and pollution. I know I can’t solve the problem by myself, but I can do my best with what I can control, and this is one of those things!
I used to work the laundry Department in a nursing home, doing laundry isn't hard you just have to think about what type of material the fabric is made out of. You're obviously going to wash something with elastic different than something that is 100% cotton. You can absolutely deep clean microfiber to make it more absorbent you just have to remember to wash it separately because any type of lint is going to stick to microfiber.
This helped me so much. I plan on using these and some bamboo diapers as needed. I also got some hemp inserts for nighttime but really your video is so great! Thank you for sharing your information. The covers are better than the pocket diapers in terms of washing because you can change the insert a few times if there isn't a blowout.
When I first was looking up cloth diaper there was at least 5 different kind I have purchased the pocket cloth diaper that have the snaps. I luv them my toddler like them as an.
Okay I had to come back for an additional comment. The stink and yellow color you complained about….well we didn’t do it like you back in the day. We rinsed in the toilet first and then put it to soak in borax water in a diaper pale and then dumped the water, wrung out and finally washed. I had an additional rinse in the babies bath water that I figured out myself after washing the babies. We didn’t just throw a bunch of dirty diapers straight into the washer and add an extra rinse.
I do the exact same pretty much. I like & use the Thirsties duo wrap size 1 covers exclusively for the newborn-4 month stage but my favorite covers for one size are definitely Blueberry! And having already cloth diapered one baby from birth to potty training I can say that the Blueberry covers stand the test of time so are definitely worth the investment and feel confident recommending them to new cloth diapering parents. They are such superior quality to all the covers I have tried. I am buying only Thirsties size 1 & Blueberry one size covers for this next baby. I'm 16 weeks pregnant with #2. I had to toss all the Flip covers I had bought & used with my son. I also use one size pocket diapers but just for night time & long car rides. I stuff my covers & pockets with flats (I tossed our old microfiber inserts in the trash but will try to just give the new ones we get away). When my son outgrew the small prefolds last time I switched to flats exclusively and love them now. I probably will be buying GMD newborn & small prefolds for baby #2 though so I don't have to mess with folding flats the first few months. All the cheap flats we used before ended up as house rags. I use nothing but flats (& flannel receiving blankets) as inserts after the infant stage though, basically as soon as I can just pad fold flats and lay them in covers.
I’m an old momma and now grandma and my niece is talking about cloth as soon as she gets a washer so I was curious if I could find a video for her. Yes cloth diapers have always been expensive to obtain but they are an investment but there is something no one told me about in my younger years that I wish I had known….just go thrift shopping and buy a bunch of old t-shirts to fold into diapers. You won’t even need filler diapers but you will need rubber pants. Like if I had it to do again I promise you I would save myself a lot more money by investing $0.25 each for a bunch of old t-shirts. And I line dry to this day so I would just hang them straight up onto hangers, wet and allow 4 inches between shirts to air dry.
When my mother had pre adopts we (never) would toss a bread bag. We used them when we were out to hold the soiled cloth diapers. Then we would rinse the poop out of them in the toilet at home. Yes! we did stick our hand in the toilet to rinse out the diapers out. Then wash our hands thoroughly with hot soapy water.
Hi Kelly, just rewatching this because my husband and I are hoping for baby #3 soon and I am wanting to cloth diaper for the first time. I have some questions to clarify with you if you have the time. I am wondering, if I were to stick with the blueberry covers (since they seem to be the favourite?) with the cotton prefolds and the fleece liners, instead of trying out multiple brands, how many of each of those items would you recommend having on hand? Also, where there are so many sizes for cotton prefolds, and you said you'd like to have 24 of them, would you be getting 24 of each size as the baby grows? Lastly, I see that there's a newborn size and a one size blueberry diaper cover, would you recommend getting a certain amount of the newborn ones in the beginning as well? And then just using the cotton prefold the way you showed, with the snappy thing and a newborn cover over it? Would you still put the fleece liner into the cotton prefold that way? Thank you for taking the time to read! Love your videos 💗
Sure! So if you go with covers and prefolds, I would recommend having 4-6 on hand, however, I've heard other mamas say they are more comfortable having 6-8 on hand. It depends on your baby and how often they have a blowout lol. And yes, for the prefolds, you would size up and buy new ones as baby grows. To be honest, I think I only had to size up once or twice with my son. My daughter is now 9 months old and shes still wearing the same size that she was wearing at the time this video was made. She was about 4 months old. So I don't think you will be having to size up every month or anything crazy like that. As far as the newborn size covers go, you could buy them and get a better fit, but just keep in mind they are only that tiny for a short amount of time and probably wont wear those newborn covers for very long. The one size covers tend to be a little big on newborns but again the length of time they are that small is so short. So if it were me, I would save my money on the newborn covers and go straight to the one size. And yes, you always, always, wanna put a fleece liner down between their skin and the cotton prefold so that they don't get a rash :) I hope this helps you! Thank you for watching my videos!
hint for others. dil sends me the ugly and tattered one. i have larger wounds on my legs from having had a skin graft after necrotizing fasciitis. they never really heal. i have hypersensitive skin. i can't have rubber, nylon, latex, plastic of any kind. so cotton is it. my surgeon is the one who told me to this. i use them like an abd(thick large bandage that are expensive). and a large recieving blanket as a wrap to hold the diaper bandages on and keep the ace wraps from touching my skin. plus they are so much cheaper than disposable bandages and i never run out. they can be disinfected and sanitized. ny wound care doctors and nurses have made the suggestions to other patients that are on long term wound care.. diabetics, amputees with prosthetics. ect. so many ppl have longer term wound care needs and these are great!!
Thank you for this!! I watched you all the time and don’t know what happened but havnt seen you in a while but I love to see this! I am due in April and want to get all the info I can! ♥️
