Super helpful!! Glad to know the difference in how bulky they are. I’m not a fan of my workhorse on my 5 week old. Wayyyy too bulky. Definitely ordering birdseye flats now! Thanks!
I have the Muslin and I'm truly impressed by how much it absorbs for it just being cotton! We mainly use a mix of bamboo flats/prefolds and hemp flats/prefolds but the Muslin flats hold up well in my stash. I didn't have high hopes for it but a lot of mom's here on RU-vid have talked highly about it. I was not disappointed, that's for sure! And I'm picky about absorbency types so that says a lot.
Definitely. I just tried the muslin out on our baby yesterday. He's probably about 10 pounds now and it was pretty bulky, I think it would have been a real issue (especially with the umbilical stump) on a newborn. The birdseye are great though. And they should honestly last you a long time! Our toddler just started over-saturating them in the last month or two and he'll be two next month.
Thank you so much for this comparison, I have a 18 month old and I was debating buying 3 of each to see which one I preferred. Now I’m just gonna go ahead and buy the Muslin ones. Great info and much needed, I couldn’t find a comparison anywhere else.
The muslin are sooooo awesome! They're my favorites! They're still kind of bulky pad-folded for my 5.5 month old, but they'll be perfect for your 18 month old. :)
I love this video!! My son is 17lbs and 5 months old and we are planning on switching to flats and using his AIOs at the sitter. We used prefolds for the newborn stage so I love that we can just skip the Birdseye flats.
I would do all muslin if I had to do it again. They wash like a dream and still look like new on my 2 year old. I started size large when he was 6 months. I wanted to add that they have newborn size now too!
I LOVE the muslin. We still use the birdseye too (on our nearly one year old) and I found the birdseye to be great in the newborn days, muslin were definitely too big for newborns). I think they both are good, but the muslin make me super happy. They hold so much wetness!
I love the muslin. They're maybe my favorite flat we own right now. Except that they're too bulky pad folded on our 3.5 month old. I love them for our 2 year old though.
LainasLife I agree. I have a 7 month old right now and the OS muslin are too bulky on her. GMD has muslin half flats now. I bought those for newborn and it was still too bulky so I waited til she was 9 weeks before I started using it, but now I'm still using them prefolded cause the OS are too thick. I'm thinking about investing in a dozen large birdseye for her because she's starting to pee out the half flats now.
Thank you so much Laina! Just curious, at the time of you recording this video were you using a waterproof diaper cover on your toddler or infant? I'm preparing for our first and am trying to get a hold on the actual need of a diaper cover. Thank you in advance.
Yes, I always put a cover on top for daily use. The cotton fabric flat is the absorbent part of a diaper, but you still need a waterproof component (the cover), to go over it, if you want to keep baby's clothes and your furniture dry.
Hi, this was such a nice video! I am planning to do cloth diapering (covers and flats) for my expected baby from newborn to potty training. It would grateful if you can help me with building my minimum stash of covers and flats for entire span. Like what brand to buy, how many and what sizes for diaper covers and flats. Thanks in advance 😊
Ok. My recommendation as of right now would be: 30x GMD Cloth-eez birdseye one size for the newborn days. 24x GMD muslin one size for maybe around 3 months and up (depending on baby's size). For covers, I would recommend either Nicki's or Diaper Junction because they both will work on bigger kids (my two boys are on the bigger size), but I personally haven't tried them out on newborns, so I'm not sure how small they get. For newborn covers, I used Thirsties duo wrap size 1 and was really happy with those. I hope that kind of helps.
@@aishwaryasatyanarayanan523 I've never tried Alva. The amount of diapers you'll need depends on how often you're able to wash. My previous recommendation is based on washing every other day.
