I knew all of these things before but being told them by someone who clearly means every word they're saying triggered something inside of me; affected at least one other person in my system. It's a flood of reassurance that our suffering wasn't our fault. Especially for one of our littles. She knew these things too but couldn't ever believe them by herself. Thank you Chloe, for everything you've done and all the good you put in the world. I'm sure Nin will continue your legacy brilliantly. Thank you DissociaDID for every video you guys have made. Much love, Astral System.

RiverStylesNoble Same. The first and only time I tried counseling the therapist blamed me for what happened. It’s still sometimes hard to remember that it wasn’t my fault. I think part of it was just that medical abuse is so unheard of that she didn’t know how to handle what I was telling her. But still. You don’t blame the victim. Whatever has happened to YOU was not your fault either, beautiful. 🖤

It may just be enough to get someone to stand up to a friend that is making light of or thinking about doing something bad, or to get someone to get better friends, to get someone to admit to/apologize for something they did to someone in the past. Once we are all on the same page except for the worst of us it'll be that much easier to make change.

I've started teaching my students in Kindergarten about consent. For those confused about the word, it doesn't have to have a sexual meaning. I talk to my students about offering their hand for someone to take instead or grabbing their hand, asking to touch someone's hair if there's something in it instead of just pulling their hair, asking to play with their toys instead of taking them, asking to play... I'm teaching my students to stop and think about a situation before they choose their behaviour or actions, to consider what their friend might feel, or what the consequences of their actions will be. I try to teach my students that if someone says stop, no, don't, looks away, ignores them, says "I don't want to play with you" or "I want to play by myself" that the other needs to respect that, even if it upsets them, and give them space. There are also absolute boundaries: no taking someone else's food, no biting, no hitting, no touching one another when the other is on the toilet because that is a private time for them. This conversation is not suitable only to those learning about sex and sexuality. It is suitable for everyone in their own context, and I believe should be mandatory explicit education everywhere.

@BellefromOz
@BellefromOz 4 года назад
@Hullo There that's a different learning path in itself. My students are very good at sharing toys, but for those who may not be, it's a matter of having conversations with them about how they can best share. They can share toys, but the one that wants to share has to ask. Sharing when there is only one of something is a lot about taking turns. It can be with a particular coloured toy, with a swing, with paint colours. In that sense, the child is learning patience and learning how to ask for their share.
@iseeyouurloved1703
@iseeyouurloved1703 4 года назад
Agree! And about sharing toys, of course they can say no to a request to share. There is no reason why they should hand the toy over as soon as anyone asks. In fact, I’ve seen this strategy making children *more* spontaneously generous, not more “selfish”! They know they won’t be forced to give the toy to anyone who asks, so they are less protective over it.
@BellefromOz
@BellefromOz 4 года назад
@@iseeyouurloved1703 most definitely! I guess I've never really had problems with them sharing their own toys because they're not forced to. They know that it's their property, and they have the only right over it. And it surprises me, and makes me very happy to see how generous they are, even with the toys they love.
@BellefromOz
@BellefromOz 4 года назад
@@iseeyouurloved1703 also, children feel great when they get to do something and make a positive choice by themselves. How many times as a kid did you think "I'm going to go and do ... to be helpful, and make a positive choice" And then an adult turns to you and says "go and do this, do the right thing/help out!" And immediately you no longer want to do that thing. Just by being forceful, you've stopped a child from making a positive choice because they no longer feel like it's their move or their decision to do something right.

Elisa Castro when someone is frozen in fear and literally SHAKING and crying the no should be obvious. Anything that isn’t a stated yes is a no. Silence shouldn’t be assumed to be a yes just because the person was too horny to give a shit about the other person involved. Yes shouldn’t be assumed when the victim is left bleeding for hours afterwards.... even for those of us who were too scared to say no, that does NOT mean that we consented. We were scared, we were hurt and most of us were probably scared that speaking up would make it worse. You can’t judge us. You weren’t there. Each situation is unique. I applaud those who were strong enough and brave enough to fight their attackers! Don’t talk down on people and situations you weren’t a part of. You don’t know.

@Gail B that is exactly what happened to me. The first time it happened I left my body after trying to fight him but I floated away so I couldn’t experience or really know that that body was mine. It really angers me when people say just say no but there are different reasons why it’s impossible because you freeze and dissociate. People are different in how such horrible trauma reaction is. It definitely is not talked about hardly at all. After that it changed my personality completely so it was my first “death” where the trauma tucked itself away and acted like everything was okay and didn’t tell anyone. New alters were formed so the girl previously to that died. After that I started splitting because I had one trauma after another because that fear instinct (the good one that keeps you out of dangerous situations) turned off so I feared nothing. Another alter was the one that took care of the sex part. But I still dissociated from it and the trauma kept happened so many times. Consent? What is consent when I am gone but I understand the difference between being forced it upon me and me just doing it. I just wished that the public would understand trauma and people react differently to it.

And like more than just a sex thing for little kids. If you have a particularly shy child, forcing them to hug all their family members can be really bad for them and normalize the idea that they have to allow the touch because their family loves them and this other person loves them so they have to allow it. Consent with any kind of touch is really important. That's why i never minded when my mom would say "because i said so." It can be damaging to some children but FOR ME it taught me that my no doesn't necessitate an explanation; because i said so taught me that I can say no just to say no.

Yes! I have a 3 year old, a 4 year old and a 20 year old and have always given them autonomy. Not just with touch but with food and (weather appropriate) clothing too. It’s surprising the number of people I’ve encountered that have issue with it. I usually ask them what age they feel a person becomes legally able to make those decisions since all adults have the right and watch them tie themselves in knots trying to justify removing another humans choice.

Yup, assault is rarely about the victim, usually about the aggressor. While some factors can draw their attention to a paricular person they will still be that predator seeking prey regardless of whether or not you are the one to catch their eye. It can be clothes, gender, height, weight, something about you that reminds them of someone else, etc... I would advise to be wary of all strangers but then there is plenty of "adult" assault where the people are "friends". People suck. ☹

HypER freeze: Your primary state is awaiting opportunity to escape, muscles are rigid, breathing is fast, HR and BP are elevated, pupils small or dilated, you may have cold sweats and dry skin, your hands and feet may be too hot or cold, you're likely to feel terror and may dissociate, you are unlikely to have access to your frontal cortex/executive function, you aren't likely to be able to have contact with others. To get out of this state, you want to slam the brakes on what's going on to help return to healthy regulation. HypO freeze: Your primary state is preparing to die, muscles are flaccid, breathing is too slow, HR and BP are very low/slow, eyes are drooping or closed OR open and fixed, your skin will be pale, you likely have cold sweats and dry skin, your hands and feet are likely cold, you're likely to feel numbness/dissociated or may not feel anything, it is impossible to have access to your frontal cortex/executive function, you can't connect with others. To get out of this state, it's noteworthy that this can be a medical emergency. From a therapeutic standpoint, you'll need help from a trained professional to return to healthy regulation. In the absence of a therapist or physician, you can ground based on Maslow's hierarchy with the caveat of, "start low, go slow." Trying to do too much with someone in this state can cause harm.

The clothing excuse really makes me sick. If a person gets robbed for example, nobody’s says oh it’s their fault they dressed to expensive.
@daivahataka
@daivahataka 4 года назад
I don't think people are actually excusing the perpetrator, just seeking how others can best protect themselves from becoming a victim too. When tragedy strikes one of the first questions is often "Well how did that happen?" Also you do get such comments if someone is robbed after flashing around a brand new iPhone/gold watch/etc... while there will always be some scumbag to set a new low most don't currently seem to be willing to steal clothes off someone's back (Trump hats yes so I suspect the probability of damage to the clothing is a factor in why our clothing is generally safe from mugging). That said, when they try bring it up in court that is disgusting as they are trying to imply the clothing somehow makes a difference. 😡
@beatemueller7830
@beatemueller7830 4 года назад
daivahataka you are right with what you said when it comes to try and protect themselves from becoming a victim. I remember from a psychology class that victim blaming is a psychological defense mechanism. If you can believe the victim being somehow at fault causing the incident, you can feel safe by avoiding the same “mistakes”. However, putting the entire blame on the perpetrator is a lot scarier because then you have to believe it can happen to anyone, including you.
@daivahataka
@daivahataka 4 года назад
@@beatemueller7830 it's a little sad since there are people who are almost 100% predator and will happily attack anyone so this sort of denial does not help a person protect themselves. No idea if this will offer comfort but even far smaller, unthreatening, things can cause a person to freeze. In my teens a girl hugged me and I completely froze as in my head I wanted to punch her but at the same time I was telling myself she's not trying to hurt me. It had been years since anyone had touched me other than for a handshake or out of malice so wasn't ready for it. I'd like to say you grow out of it so the next time you'll be able to defend yourself but 20 years later and I still freeze if anyone that's not a friend hugs me without warning.

Love how u said “whether you’re male or female” because it is as real for males as it is for females, definitely not as much as it is for females, but it is a thing, and as a transgender male, I’ve definitely had my share of experiences, and I know there are cis men who feel the same way. Just because u are a woman doesn’t mean u can’t sexually assault people, and just because you’re a man doesn’t mean men and/or woman can’t sexually assault u. Yes, it was way worse presenting as female, but that doesnt mean it can’t happen to males because it does sometimes, it’s just more embarrassing to talk about it when you’re male and ppl take it way more lightly.

true, but generally under-reported in men due a number of factors, one of which is that men, in a very general sense, are sometimes so happy that any woman wants to touch them that they forget to care why. of course, there are probably many of those that project that onto others and assume they would feel the same way, which is of course not true. as Chloe says, the best way to know is to ask.

This is honestly a little sad. The topic of course is so important, I agree entirely and thankfully haven't really had any of these problems myself but generally I don't go out that much or dress in such a way or anything like that but I know it's a serious issue and so many people get hurt on a daily basis because of these reasons that people try to use as excuses for doing the horrible things they do. But also, I do miss Chloe but I also love Nin. There are many similarities between them of course but it's still a little sad. I do miss her but I know Nin is just as wonderful because Chloe is a part of her and I have always loved Nina too. I can see both shining through in Nin and she is amazing. Something I also think is very important to remember is that you’re still responsible even if you didn’t have any ill intentions. Even if it was an accident, or if you read the signals wrong, you’re still responsible. And that doesn’t immediately make you a bad person, it just means that you’re responsible and that’s it. It still means you should apologize and take care of the consequences, even if you didn’t intend to hurt the other person.

I’m really glad you made this video, it’s so easy in many situations to feel insecure and invalid and need to hear this when society can make it difficult for even people who fiercely agree to make their opinions known. I’ve been working in either the Navy or a Navy shipyard for the last six years, you’d be amazed at what men say literally seconds after (and even sometimes during) our mandatory Sexual Assault Prevention and awareness training. The thing that really irked me in the training we had last Friday was that, on the heels of being shown that a very small percentage of claims are false, and as many as 66-75% of predators think they were in the right, they still believe that most “women (accusers) are lying” and that the “men (accused) are the victims”. As if that many people are sociopaths who are willing to go through all of that just to get some guy in trouble. If the vast majority of claims that are investigated by NCIS are shown to be legitimate yet the majority of men accused think that they’ve done nothing wrong, you should be able to do that math and err on the side of believing the victims, or at the very least understanding why there needs to be such persistent training to try to get people who may not understand what they’re doing wrong to see how their actions can hurt others. And make people who do understand what they’re doing to know that their actions are not acceptable. And what’s more, if you’re someone (particularly a woman) who speaks up, you’re seen as ‘sensitive’ or ‘annoying’ and eschewed from social situations because of it. Sorry, that was kind of venting.
