I love this scene because it tells you clearly the point this movie is trying to make. Your efforts to change the world do have an impact. Don't let anyone or even you dissuade yourself into thinking what you do doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, because it does!
@SOak145
@SOak145 4 года назад
Even if it doesn't matter in the grand schemes of things, so what ? If it matters to you, or matters on an interpersonal level to another human being, or a community of other human beings, then so be it. If it only matters in a personal or in a 'smaller scheme of things' way, it really doesn't matter, it doesn't make it any less impactful. Do what you're going to do regardless. Most of my actions day to day don't matter in the 'grand schemes of things', but I will continue to make a difference in my own way nonetheless.

@Steven Sweeden Because Mr. Gabriel here (The Main Commenter) is implying that evry actions that he had made DOESN'T MATTER in the grand scheme of things.. So i am saying HE DIDN'T GET IT. because for me. EVERYthing and i mean EVERY.. small or big.. Everything that we do, we HAVE done, or we WILL do will eventually/someday/ somehow matter.. Have you heard of the butterfly effect? Everything is interconnected! Oh.. And yeah this is one of my favs of all time as well.. So pls stop hating on me because I'm just stating facts.. Well yeah, and yes and no.. see, Adam and his wife Tilda may have been on the right side to fight for people cause people shouldn't be slaves. So they join the abolitionists.. and as we know slavery was abolished, they won.. But, as soon as he say there's an order to this world, it cuts to the revolution led by sonmi451 and sadly they lost, cause her dad in a distant future caused their death..
@senorjalapeno3937
@senorjalapeno3937 5 месяцев назад
But also, they wom the revolution.. since the future dispora when sonmi451 was killed we can see that it affected the ecosystem which led to the future where zachery was and hugo weaving appeared as the devil again to represent his view of order in a chaotic world.. where Adam dies again.. but then again they win, since they move to another world, another galaxy it seemed like.. this movie changed my view of life lol

"There is a natural order to this world and those who try to upend it don't fare well." -- This is never a good enough reason to not do what's right. Yes, and I believe that raising and slaughtering animals just so we can eat their body parts is biggest injustice normalized in our society. There are many parallels between slavery and how we have treated animals as inanimate objects, but one day people will wake up and those that do sooner will want people to be on the right side of history. Just as we would see slavery from a the slave's perspective instead of the wealthy slaver due to our compassion, we should also see animal "agriculture" from the victim's perspective. It may seem trivial, to choose veggie meat over pig meat, but it is all a drop in the ocean of change.

Thank you. I'm American too, and I keep hearing everyone say it's such a confusing film but it's really not. It's actually rather intricately simple, if that makes sense. I don't know. I didn't read the book, going to, but haven't yet, but I never found it confusing, just beautiful, a movie that defies genre, defies race and the physical body and pushes it all away to the core of what it means to be human, to be free. Watching this scene feels like the ethereal experience of the very soul of rebellion, the spirit of resistance, reaching out across time and space to always stand up against the “Natural Order”. Choral echoes in the soundtrack are very chilling in this regard, especially as they swell when we cut back to Sonmi with the narration.

Unfortunately, most people are just exposed to the spoon fed mediocrity of celebrities' lives. This movie is thought-provoking and philosophical; one needs to have cognitive abilities and high intellect to be able to understand the complexity of such characters. It is a MASTERPIECE!!

His, and Hugh Grant's souls get progressively worse and worse in each timeline. From here he becomes a hitman, the horrible nurse, and then the executioner as you mentioned. By the next timeline he is so evil that he becomes a demon. Hugh Grant gets worse and worse until the final timeline where he literally consumes humans as a cannibal. It's a very interesting story.
@SharinaJulien
@SharinaJulien 4 года назад
All of Hugh Grant's characters were in positions where they could change things but consistently didn't Letting their base desires dictate their decisions. Weaving's characters were fixed evil. The final character is literally a figment of the collective's imagination's fear. The devil indeed is a lie.
@bicarbonat1
@bicarbonat1 4 года назад
@@SharinaJulien Yup, by the final cycle, all of the blood that Grant's characters have soaked themselves in sealed his fate. Just going by memory, so I'm sure I'm leaving things out, but when you combine the deaths caused as: - a slaver - a hitman - a member of the neo establishment That's a lot of human lives and suffering caused. Of course he'd be a cannibal in the end. I wonder if Zachry was meant to let the Kona king live not just to avoid detection, but because his soul had reached the terminal point - his own hell, which he would continue to rule until he too became vulnerable and was consumed. Considering that the Kona had slaughtered their supply, they were headed for a bloody collapse.
@SharinaJulien
@SharinaJulien 4 года назад
@@bicarbonat1 Reading you're comment made me think of something else about both Hugh Grant's & Hugo Weavings' characters. Unlike the others both of their archs are linear. Hugo's characters are the personifications of systemic evil...especially when his final character is literally a devil. Hugh Grant's characters do bad things. His 1st 3 characters do evil in servitude to others (the 3 you mentioned) The final 3 do evil for themselves, not answering to any authority. He starts as a servant and ends as a king. His character is the personification of the book's theme which is predacity. The final domination of another human is cannibalization. Agree, the Kona chief most likely died from exhausting his supply or going insane from the "freakbirth" virus.
@lewisfraser4153
@lewisfraser4153 4 года назад
@@SharinaJulien I wouldn't agree that they were fixed evils, Adam's father in law at least tried to do right by his daughter. It's just that his soul bleached out any sort of empathy over the ages. Bill Smoke did it for money (unless you go by the book), Nurse Noakes did it for a sense of power and Old Georgie did it for kicks. I found Hugh Grant's characters more repulsive in that they were consistently petty, vindictive and ultimately monstrous in a very human sense of the word. More to the film's credit to be honest, the novel only has one soul journey but every actor in the film had their own ark - I was very pleasantly surprised coming out of the cinema after going in with low expectations
@rashuharshu

I felt that Hugo weaving was not a devil but a fragment of Tom Hank's character's mind who was battling with schizophrenia at some level.

It's nice to here the film be appreciated the way it's meant to be. I remember a critic saying "you watch the same actors play different characters throughout different times" or something along those lines and I shook my head, no, you watched the actors play the same characters through out time, with different bodies. The characters aren't the people, they're the souls. But I also am familiar w/ reincarnation and believe in it so that may have made it easier for me to get it, like you said

This scene, as is the entire film, is a masterpiece of cinema. My absolute favourite, seemingly incidental moment is the irony of the use of the word “Crucifiction”. Used by Hugo Weaving as a threat but juxtaposed with Somni’s execution that will catalyse a rebellion that will immortalise her as a Goddess-like figure. Rebellion against the natural order can even go so far as to twist the fabric of language in its favour.

There is also more to it than just having different lives. Its the development of a soul, the idea of respecting people because they may have been your friend before or the idea of fulfilling a debt from a previous life. Its very interesting and complex, I think the movie represented it well :)
@starless9
@starless9 4 года назад
Yes the debt is the contribution from previous chapters, set in the past, where actions for good or bad influence the current chapter, and the possibilities of the current and future chapters are made possible by, and their characters are inspired by the artifacts of the fictionalized past.

I know right?!? I hate that a lot of critics are saying that its "too confusing" or "it has no clear idea" I think that the big point is that its celebrating mankind and showing us making choices, loving each other and going through hardships; experiencing all of those themes through reincarnation. I loved this movie and I just wished that it got more recognition.

Buddhism also believes in the karma's and also describes the different types of beings that you can come back as depending on how you do in this life. All of this leads to Nirvana.
