I started as an application developer who became a cloud engineer because of Docker and Devops. Docker may not be 100% network but there is significant amount of networking knowledge there so mastering Docker enabled me to became very familiar with the concept of network. Then on the Cloud Engineering perspective, cloud engineering itself is very complex. You mentioned certificates, but you only mentioned solutions architect. There are also other certificates which I believe you discussed on your previous videos leaning to other aspects of IT like Data Engineering and Developer. But in conclusion, I do agree that Cloud Engineering is better than network engineering. You can start with the salary. Plus network engineering can be boring as it can be an isolated work setup, while cloud engineering can be diverse and allows you to work with different type of engineers.

As Someone who has just passed there CCNA this is upsetting to hear. I'm hoping a blend of cloud skills and networking skills will still be seen as valuable to employers as it still shows you have a good understanding of networking fundamentals

You know cloud is a mix is app, database, storage, servers(vm and containers), security and networking? Many people who manages cloud are not even concern about the networking part as they can use the basic networking (vpc) settings. CCNA still a good cert but don’t expect the knowledge you gained will be a big part of the cloud as whole.

@@StyxShow I didn't explain myself to well. I don't know too much about cloud but I want to see if it's something I would like to go into. If not I will probably go for my CCNP soon and maybe even the CCIE eventually. I've always wanted to be a network engineer but I think at least getting an Azure admin cert might be worth while regardless. For some reason in the UK a lot of cloud jobs ask for Azure experience over AWS

Ignore the noise, combine the CCNA with Linux and you will be a valuable cloud engineer .

@@osike7I agree 100% CCNA is an excellent and very thorough associate level networking CERT. that along with the skills will absolutely get you a job. Also having a good résumé and LinkedIn profile. There are a lot of social media videos talking about what you need but most people don’t have no yet they make videos about what you need to be successful in IT Unless you work for a large organization, that also has a large network that would be where a CCNP specialty would come in. Everyone should do their own research and use critical thinking to assess what they need as far as education and experience to qualify for jobs. Don’t just watch videos and listen to what people say due diligence is important. Decide what you’re interested in and go after it with a structured game plan so that you can get results.

Very insightful. Being that I'm 2 years in my career and aiming for cloud engineering. It seems as my career path is going down the networking path. I see alot of people transition from data center technicians to cloud support engineers at AWS. This is the route I'd like to go.I have my CCNA,AWS SAA, Sec+, and I know IAC via terraform. What is some career advice for someone 2 years in tech wanting to go cloud but is open to the network engineer path or cloud / security path?

So, for someone who wants to start their career in IT, can they go straight to AWS as their first certification instead of studying for the CCNA to land a job in IT?
@StyxShow
@StyxShow Месяц назад
Short answer is YES! Specially if you are working for startups and SMBs.
@Linux333
@Linux333 Месяц назад
I think avoiding CCNA short term is not that big of a deal but long term you’ll be limiting the types of projects you can manage. Networking is still here and by the looks of it most content creators and engineers of all types don’t see it going anywhere, you just won’t see it until you continue your journey and gain more experience.

CCNA is still the most popular cert.

As a CCNA holder and current tech working with azure on a daily basis, I found the CCNA allowed me to better understand my work and take on additional tasks at work such as firewall administration. Get your networking and systems administration knowledge in. I saw it was useful for security related responsibilities and automation tasks, given I learned Python and based my coding around security and automation tasks related to the network and systems.
