Stuart, you are one of the few artists on youtube I always watch from beginning to end! Most of the others. I just fast forward through them (they take sooo long to get to the point!). I don't care how loooong you videos are! It's riveting to listen and watch. You wave your arm and a distant hill appears, another wave and a storm cloud forms...it's pure magic: call me crazy, but I always get excited when the crumpled paper comes out to play!!! Anyway, I'm an ''I've started so I'll finish'' kind of girl so just be you and paint as long, short, big, small as your heart and mood dictates. Thank you for everything you do! 👍👍👍

Lifting the joy of the whole community, whole planet, one grateful soul at a time: thank you, dear Stuart! Wow, Stuart. I LOVE the way you teach, the way you encourage, your generosity, attention to detail in the little things that actually do enter into an artists head...like: “if you have these lines you don’t like, Don’t panic and keep brushing” or “pay attention to the lines as you go and look for unexpected lines or shapes that you want to keep, don’t just keep sweeping away”. Very important insights that are lacking in other tutorials.

I watch the video, a thought comes to me, I stop, write my thought, continue watching, etc. until I reach the end of the video and finally the entire comment. I still prefer long videos, because 8-10 minutes is still a very short time, so I enjoy long videos. Those who quickly jump in and out are just ordinary internet surfers. It's just so amazing how the clouds come to life when they swipe and they become so real. It's absolutely fantastic how the texture comes out in the landscape with a few strokes. Just as there is charm in simplicity, so is this landscape. Oh, how wonderful, thank you so much!

I think I may have told you previously, but if not, I want to tell you what most of us painters use for a pallet. Cheap, easy, and disposable. I use a tin little metal tin that cookies or candy comes in.. I then use the bottom of it to trace around on a piece of freezer paper. I imagine you have that same paper there for purchase. Here it’s primary use is for wrapping meat for the freezer. It has a slick side and a papery side. You use the slick side and the paint does not soak into it. Since I used the tin for a pattern, the paper sheets( I cut several at a time), will fit very well inside the tin. The paint can’t run anywhere this way. Hate to bore you with all this, but since you can no longer get plastic plates, this is a great alternative. Another good thing about using the tin, if you have paint left over, you can put the lid of the tin back on and put the tin in the freezer. It will be ready to use when you come back to it later, up to the next day at least.

I had a professor who always said "the indication of detail is more powerful than actual detail." That always stuck with me as being rather profound, and I've thought that what he was getting at has to do with what you were talking about here: that our brains simplify what we see and try to make sense of the compressed information. So there's no point in painting every branch and leaf on a tree because nobody's going to see that you painted every one by hand unless they're silly enough to try to look for it. In my opinion, all the most powerful art I've ever seen, regardless of medium, seems to understand this and is as simple as possible while still being very clear as to what the subject is. You seem to understand this very well and it's one of the reasons why I love your paintings, but is even more why I love to watch you paint.

I enjoy the longer videos because I get hints from your conversation as I watch your brush work. There are times when i have to leave to walk the dog or whatever, but I save the video so that I can come back and listen as I watch. I've learned a great deal since i started watching your videos and applying your ideas to my own work. I've just begun painting, and I'm working with Acrylics because it dries quickly and is easy to work with using only water. BUT I've still learned so much of technique and attitude. Thank you so very much for each/all of your videos on You Tube.
