When I was younger, my mum paid for a Club Penguin membership for me (I think it was for a month). Little did we know it was recurring. Being the naïve little kid I was, I kept playing with membership beyond my supposed limit and eventually Mum realized Disney was sucking up the contents of her bank account. And we weren't exactly well-off back then (which is why you beg your mum to buy you membership for a poxy little game, of course). And I was getting mad at a guy for charging $4.99 for a premium for his game. But that one was quite clearly low-budget, so it seemed pretty natural he wanted to get more money out of it so he could develop it. He was making the game himself, after all (unless he actually had a band of people helping him but took all the credit). Disney, on the other hand, has a budget that could probably help a great deal (where money can help) in sorting out the world's problems and still have enough to buy everyone in the team a Mercedes and a first-class trip to Barbados. What do they spent it on? A totally shitty-looking game that people quit because they can't do anything without buying membership for and their parents won't "buy you more membership - you've had it for three years". You may say Disney put a lot of effort into the game, but really, it looks like any other virtual world game, apart from the fact the other virtual world games don't have a great big LOCK on everything that you're forced to open using your five-dollar bills. And, to top it off, they also removed free trials at one point (I dunno if they're back yet), so you couldn't even "get the experience of a member". So, all in all, Disney, a 1/5 from me.

The fact that this game never had Puffles is a crime against humanity in itself.

I remember back in the original CP it started getting a bit like this towards the end. They started locking everything behind memberships: levels of the minigames, clothes, event rooms. I already had a membership so it didn't bother me as much, but what really got me to leave was when all the parties became advertisements for Disney's latest show, movie, or acquisition. At that point the corporatism got to me.

I keep on preaching in CPR - CPI is a game that teaches children segregation: without a membership you have nothing. When CPI was fairly new, the non members had no clothing items. All you could do was jump on the trampoline. There was a huge improvement in this video. I’d like to say more, but i’d need a membership for that.

imma be honest i loved cpi when it first came out and played for a year. tbh maybe i only stuck around so long cause it was club penguin and i was mourning the loss of the original and needed SOME club penguin content (didn’t know about cpr at the time) but the membership thing was actually solved… for like 3 days. i don’t remember if it was the anni or not but i think it was cause they basically had free membership for three days and it was absolutely amazing. the game was lively and the server was full and everyone was playing and i even made friends that i never spoke to after the third day but anyways if they just made the game almost completely free like the old cp it would have been amazing.

To be honest, I downloaded an offline client of this game just a week ago. I wanted to see what is the game like to me. . The offline mode of the game has literally no restrictions, and they had membership, meaning to say that everyone could do things like a member could do, you can play the quests, get some new items and etc. . However, since that is the offline mode of the game, you can't really play with other penguins. After a while, I was wandering around aimlessly, since that without penguins to play with you, it is boring.
