Knowing of Iverson and kowing him when it comes to basketball are two different things. I can say, after watching I know more than just what he looks like. This video shined light on his skills on the court, and man this man have some moves...playing with his heart and soul.
Iverson was a trendsetter, he's the reason why so many guys in the NBA have tattoo's, before him people thought it was crazy because the only guy who had that many tats was Dennis Rodman who people viewed as crazy. He popularized and started the long shooting armband that everyone uses today, brought the streetball aspect of basketball to the NBA, greatest handles of all time (IMO) anyway, his practice rant (which you should watch), taking a trash 76ers team to the Finals and beating one of the great playoff teams of all time in the 01 Lakers, and he was the original posterboy to the NBA 2k franchise. Too many memories of this dude and one of the main reasons I got into basketball.
@Jermaine Nixon I don't remember Spree having any tattoo's in Golden State, and if he did they weren't visable or nearly as many as A.I. had. And I ageee about the cornrows but I didn't even mention them. Props to you for giving Spree a mention he does get overlooked, he was like the original Westbrook with the way he attacked the rim with anger
My #1 soldier...he dragged an EXTREMELY WACK 2001 Philly team where he was the ONLY offensive threat through an entire season all the way to the FINALS and strong-armed a win against the Lakers....WHILE SUFFERING FROM 11 INJURIES!!! You will never see this caliber of player in this league ever again.
It is so funny that you said he looks like he plays with a lot of heart. That is why we loved him so much in Philly. He was all heart and you could tell he put everything he had into every game. His crossover was nasty.
"He's playing like he's 7 ft tall. He doesn't care." Yes m'am. What Iverson did with his height and weight was nothing short of amazing. My favorite NBA player of all time, hands down.
He is short but he is also one of the greatest athletes to ever live. Some knowledgeable people even say he was one of the greatest football players they had ever seen
My favourite thing about AI was that he was absolutely fearless. He spent more time getting up off the floor than anyone in the NBA because he was not afraid to go right at anybody. He attacked the rim with abandon, no matter who was guarding it, even a beast like Shaq. He got knocked down a lot, but never ever let it stop him from going right back in there among the big trees!
You're totally right, of course. One reason that comes to mind is that he was also a great football player--an all state high-school, champion running back if I recall correctly. So he wasn't afraid of being knocked around by big linebackers & the like. Going into the NBA, he was already battle hardened, as it were. Just one mofo of a fantastic all around athlete, a once in a generation phenom. There was a guy a bit like that in my school who was in 8th grade when I was in 7th. He was great in hoops, baseball & football, & could pole vault like an olympian. Plus he was a fine tennis player & a beautiful skier as well (I never saw him golf, but I'm quite sure could drive, chip & putt with the best of them). There are guys who were born to be great athletes, & will excel in whichever sport they dedicate themselves to. If A. I.'d been born in the UK, he'd be a champion cricket test match player or a super striker in soccer, or whatever it is in rugby. A.I, is one of those dudes, born to be great.
The most important part of A.I's game was his heart. It's the one thing that stands out the most to me remembering him play. He carried a garbage Philly team deep into the playoffs time after time with sheer will and determination.
Sadly my boy A.I. probably won't get his due as the incredible player he was. As dope as his highlights are, you had to see it live night in and night out to grasp how incredibly talented he was. An allegedly 6ft tall ball player shaking guys like Kobe, T-Mac, Vince, MJ, and countless others. As someone who didn't witness him live, one might be tempted to accuse his fans as being old heads or simply haters of new guys like Steph or Kyrie, but as a person who was fortunate enough to witness both, I can honestly say A.I. is way the fuck more impressive.
Crazy Man78???? On Denver he averaged 26ppg at 33 years old( mind you Melo was a scorer too), and he was still quicker than pretty much the rest of the NBA. He was out of his prime but was still impressive. He even said in a interview that if he was till on the Sixers after 2006 he still would have averaged 30ppg.
Yes you're witnessing greatness! Heart! A passion that's lost in today's NBA! He never win a chip but he left it all on the floor and that's what everybody respects
Allen Iverson changed the whole culture in basketball single handedly! He integrated sports with hip hop. He started the cornrows being a thing in basketball and throughout the world. He left his heart on the floor each game listed at 6'10" but he was really 5'10". The biggest part of his life is the fact he was even a better football player starting in high school as a quarterback. He had been jailed and accused for a bowling alley fight whereas when he was jailed, lost all interest from every college scout. Prior to the incident he was scouted by every big school in the country for football and basketball. His sentence ruling was pardoned by the then governor of Virginia and his mom travelled to Georgetown University and begged Hall of Fame coach John Thompson to take him in. Iverson credits John Thompson for saving his life! Iverson is pound for pound one of the greatest of all time! He did it his way!!!
Iverson did have a chip on his shoulder. He got convicted to 7 yrs in prison his junior year in high school on some racist shit and almost didn't make it to the NBA.
@@yournoasshole he was given a 15 year prison sentence but had 10 of those years suspended. He spent 4 months in jail before being granted clemency for insufficient evidence in his case.
Other shorter players were Earl Boykins (5'5") Spud Webb (5'7"), Nate Robinson (5'9"), and Isaiah Thomas (5'9"). This is my first time on your channel and I just subscribed!
as a sixers fan i can say this is one of the FEW athletes the city of philly will always love...this man gave it 150% every game and carried the city on his back.
Iverson was amazing. His life story is super interesting. As a player, small player, he was mesmerizing. Score at will, play injured, long shot, to the rim, didn't matter. Love the guy.
to anyone who never saw him play..... forget all the dunk highlights & all star game lay ups vs half ass D, the play at number 9 summed up how AI played, not just every night, but EVERY PLAY.
I don't know. I think Iverson is a bigger scoring threat and better at creating turnovers. They had to put the whole roster on Iverson in the finals and they still couldn't stop him.
I've watched your show a few times lately and I really enjoy it. Your knowledge of these sports and sportsmen is refreshing. I will be 74 in a few months, so in my lifetime, I've seen the black athlete go from a few heads throughout each league, to dominating all the major sports. The reason is: black athletes are awesome playmakers and make the games they play, fun to watch, whether you know the sport or not.
AI brought the swagger to the current NBA. He brought style to the NBA, all the headbands, arm sleeves, and all that its him that made it cool. plus on the court he made the cross over a big thing or a more style-ish thing and all the crazy moves he did that players nowadays they all do, back then there was no one like AI. He is more than a legend and a hall of famer, he is one of the league's Icon players with how he changed the game in many ways and levels.
@ I dont care about that "showing you're age" Corny shit. Yeah I grew up with late 90's early 2000's basketball so what? AI did do all those things, he wasnt the only one breaking ankles and crossing defenders over but he was the one who stood out and people thought of and think when looking back now. I'm sorry that you disagree and dont want to give AI no credit old man. 🤷♂️

@@JaayCeez first of all, I don't believe you. If you "grew up watching 90s and early 2000s basketball, you wouldn't have said the dumb shit you said in your original comment. Second off, stop changing what you originally said. You clearly said "AI made the crossover a big thing" which is false. Tim Hardaway did, and any 90s NBA fan would say the same thing. He was nicknamed the "Killer Crossover" for a reason, but I guess that doesn't "stand out" to your clueless brain enough. You're either a teenager or a moron. Ps...old man? I'm in my late 20s 😂. Get some knowledge about the NBA before commenting. Now hold your L and stop replying.
Allen iverson is from my home town in Hampton VA.. imagine watching him in high school he was ranked #1 in basketball and football at the time ..also they tried to send him to jail for 15 yrs when he was a senior in high school..for a fight at a bowling alley..if that woulda happened the rest of the world wouldn't know iverson. Look it up.
To not know much about the game you’re very precise and articulate with ur words and observations on these videos and u making me watch these highlights I’ve seen well over a million times worth seeing again just bc of how u give ur opinion and that smile is life!!! Keep doing ur thing baby ima subscribe asap!! God Bless
BigBadSpikey Kyrie is a little bit better. But he had the luxury of watching AI play growing up, so in terms of impact AI paved the way for guys like Kyrie, Curry, even CP3.
man i feel you, we have great soccer players that are like olajuwon's case, once they retire no one mention them like before, also soccer got players like shaq's case, everyone knows them despite that there are players better than them, i know shaq since i was 13, however, i never knew about olajuwon until couple of years, and i'm 23. now that i learned everything in NBA history, i think there are many great players like iverson and olajuwon that are underestimated by a lot of people, ESPECIALLY young new NBA fans.
alldattalk like, don't you feel bad when you hear some people say: steph curry is the G.O.A.T. like shut yo ass up, curry ain't got shit comparing to michael jordan, kobe bryant and larry bird.
A Lil history... iverson is the reason there’s a dress code in the NBA.. he was thuggin it lol.. he was the first guy to bring braids to the table like harden brought the beard to the game.. he was the first person to start wearing tattoos in the game.. he was truly a trend setter in the league... very big impact
LD Coffie Lies. He was a polarizing figure in the debate on braids & tats on a MARKETABLE SUPERSTAR. He wasn't the FIRST for either. Real ballers know. Hyperbole from casuals is as annoying as the BS they teach the lemmings in history class
@@PetrodollarDealEndedSoWakeUp ..so who brought the braids to the game my guy???, and who rocked the braids and made it a trend.....??? ill wait cause you said I was wrong with no mention of who you think did it.
LD Coffie What's up, gent? Sprewell was first by far, to name the main cornrows example. His spinning rims business is legendary NOW but in his prime, he missed nearly a full season for choking his coach. As stated, he wasn't a MARKETABLE superstar at that point. Though he definitely was a superstar. One of the best 2 way players briefly. To name the main one me & my real NBA heads discussed. AI (one of my favorites all time) popularized the combo of braids & prominent tats (worn by many before AI). AI was not the originator for either
Can you do Charles Barkley?! 1993 league MVP 1992 Dream Team 🇺🇸 1991 All-Star MVP 11x All-Star 20,000+ points and 10,000+ boards in his 16 year career 1st Ballot HOF 🏀
Im an Allen Iverson fan. Jordan was my childhood inspiration and then this man called The Answer became my teenage hero! Greetings from Guadalajara, Mexico.
A.I. changed the NBA more than any other player ever. Before Iverson players always wore suits to the games, didn't wear braids, ear rings,or such. Nowadays players have braids, wear shooting sleeves, wear jewelry, hip hop style street clothes. And it's all because of Iverson. He was actually maybe 5'10 at best 160lbs in the land of giants. He was a point/shooting guard and most of the others at those positions were at least 6'5-6'8 and 190-230 lbs. Not only did A.I. go hard against them but he had NO FEAR and would consistently go hard against power forwards and centers who were literally twice his size and weight. Iverson carried the 76ers his entire time with the team. He did it all except win a ring which he could have done if he had at least one team mate that could average 20 ppg. Iverson will always be my favorite player in any sport. MJ was the greatest but A.I. was a different kind of special
HE PLAYED EVERY GAME 1000 PERCENT ALL HEART TO WIN THOSE BIG GUYS TRIED TO BEAT THE HELL OUT OF HIM EVERY GAME BUT HE WAS TOUGH AS NAILS AND NEVER QUIT
the fact that he's small for the NBA makes it even harder thats why a lot of people consider him to be the best player of all time pound for pound and I think Kobe even said if he was 6'6 like himself and MJ he would be the🐐
If u are just now getting hype to AI...go back under ur rock!!! My favorite basketball player of all times!!! I straight love this man!!! I really feel like I’m he’s biggest fan!!!!
Allen Iverson, A.I., #3, 'The Answer'.... u were 100% on point with the review sis.. even tho the highlights can't truly show u how great his career was, how big his Heart is, or what he meant for the culture and the youth worldwide.. #AI #GodBody #OG #HOF
He changed the face of the nba. Culture icon. Hes the reason for styled braids (has a hairdo called iverson's) hes the reason for tattoos, and arm sleeves. Made cross overs more Lenient, refs letting carry calls slide, and hes also the sole reason for the nba dress code when on the bench or interview
This was dope🔥 I love seeing new fans of the sport react to players I grew up idolizing...Do one on Paul Pierce that would be an exciting one Paul Pierce aka “The Truth” 💪🏽💪🏽
Iverson changed the game he made it cool for nba players to have a bunch of tatts wear big chain braid fur coats at interviews and all lol they didn't like him cause he was real he wasn't faking for the camera
