Cluster Headaches, Signs and Symptoms, Treatment 

As someone who has had morning cluster headaches for 2 years now, I thought I'd share a tip which has helped me substantially to reduce my attacks from everyday to like once week or so. Firstly, I know what it feels like trust me, the stabbing piercing pain in the eye with a stuffed nose and tears rolling down profusely. The tip may sound very simple but I have trialed it many times and it works for me. My cluster migraine is in my right eye so I always now sleep on my right side. An attack is triggered anytime I sleep on my left side. Sometimes you may accidently realise your sleeping on your left so you must keep your eyes closed and move to the right and go back to sleep. If you open your eyes whilst moving to the right you will have an attack. I hope this helps 🙏 *Update* - an attack may also be triggered if the pillow you sleep on is elevated so I now only sleep on one pillow which is quite flat and on my right side at all time and I can gladly say I've not had an attack in a while. I know there's many complex cases out there but this has worked for me and I hope it does for you.

Doc, you just blew my mind!! I’ve seen three doctors and they haven’t properly diagnosed my headaches, and you just did! They feel like sinus pressure!

We need to start a support group! This is amazing to see all these comments! I am also 56 year old male. I have had cluster headaches for about 25 years myself. Nobody expect who suffers from these can understand the pain that is evolved. I should not tell you folks this, but I will - Yes psilocybe cubensis-Mushrooms, can end the cycle of the clusters headaches for the season. I discovered this a couple of years ago, do your research and you see it has proven to be effective in ending the cycle of clusters. I have had many doctors try to help with this and never found any kind of relieve. I read a article a couple of years ago about mico dose mushrooms and there ability to change brain chemistry to relieve the cycles, IT WORKS! Last week my episodes began again. I have experienced these headaches also. What seems to work for me -- and I believe its because its the closest thing to 100% oxygen -- is doing 10 mins non-stop of aerobic exercises with deep breathing. This usually is enough to make the symptoms pass quickly.

I just take few iceCubes and put them on the eye and temple region for like 5 to 10 minutes and it relieves .😅

My cluster headaches are triggered by my sinuses. I usually sit in the car with the AC on or go in the living room with the AC blowing cold. That usually helps me. It stops everything after a while. I can feel my nose stopped up, and then it switches back and forth. My symptoms or; sensitive to smells, jaw hurts, teeth hurts, sinus in the back of the nose, back of the eyes, my left side temple is the worst, feeling fatigue, getting chills, bright lights, ears real sensitive, runny nose, eyes watering, and mouth get very slobbery. my remedy to help me is being in the AC and try to eat and drink a little something if you can. I hope this helps somebody out there who suffers like me. Because medicine doesn’t help...sad. 🙏🏾

I’m 36 male and I just started getting them maybe a few months ago, I think. So far I’ve noticed when there’s a change of temperature or humidity it seems to be brought on, and usually in the mornings when I wake up, but I think I can feel them coming on the night before. Lying down seems to make it worse. Being focused on any video game seems to help just get my mind off of them. Tylenol doesn’t seem to work

I’m 31 years old male who has bad battled with cluster headaches, since I was at the age of 15 for years and years on and off with the doctors care, and without, I found that exercise, sumatriptan and aspirin work, but it doesn’t always cure the pain. It really affects my life it’s debilitating gives me anxiety, stress, depression, it’s very hard to live like this. Sometimes I feel like I’m not in bad health but the headaches just made me feel that way overall whenever I don’t have headaches, I feel great like I can conquer the world otherwise whenever I’m having headaches I just feel like crap I did do Botox for every three months for several years and I found that that helps tremendously, but having chronic headaches is a drag just know that you’re not alone out there and that there.There are lots of people that cope and deal with this and I know your struggle.

I've been getting cluster headaches since I was 16, I'm now 42. The pain gets so incredibly intense I don't even know how to accurately describe it. I learned early on that heat, such as very hot shower water directly on the area of pain in my right eye can relieve the intense pain from an attack. I've tried hot compresses but they cool too rapidly. I've tried nebulizers and all sorts of crap. After 25 years of refining this heat treatment, because I can't always hop in a hot shower, I've found that if I heat water in a coffee mug and let the steam from the water just wisp over the areas of pain it will take an attack away. Just be careful while you're having an attack not to burn yourself out of desperation to relieve the pain. The water stays hot enough for long enough to literally burn the pain away. I usually start by letting the steam hit the corner of my eye near my nose and then slowly turn my head allowing the steam to go over my cheek bone up into the temple area.

I get these so bad behind my right eye it’s absolutely excruciating it affects my eye it droops and waters it’s always behind the right eye and affects my vision then travels to my temple I even get an aura in my eye too I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy I get these a few times a month

I had these headaches several times a day for a week when I was in my mid 20s. Then, about four years later, it happened again. Only the second time did I seek medical help. The oxygen treatment and Naproxen did nothing. Injecting myself with prescribed sumatriptan/Imitrex made them stop instantly. I just hope I never need it again.

I am suffering from what i think i have is the "cluster headache" for 5 months now and i only knew about this just now...... I don't know what to do and im only 13 my mom always blames my phone thus im scared to go to the doctor and i am also afraid of my mom knowing about this probably she won't believe me😭

Have been suffering from this for around 8 years now, after remission periods of 4-5 months it appears out of nowhere and lasts for about 25-30 days, especially with extreme weather changes and when I fall sick, some attacks aren't very traumatising and some are extremely painful(always on right side) with droopy eyelids, pain in teeth, in and around ear and sometimes back of the head as well with concentrated around the eye. What works for me : This is the only thing that works, subsides pain to a good level, I start running (jog) at a brisk pace for few minutes and this doesn't terminate the attack but keeps from hitting that dreaded peak of pain Hope someone finds this helpful, I can understand what a person goes through

i’m scared and the more i think about it the worst it feels, it seems to diminish when i’m distracted. It’s been going on for 3 day’s now, not sure what caused it but i’ve had this before maybe 5 months ago. I have no other symptoms just sharpish pain on left side top of head. I think My cluster headaches is chronic, as I am having it now for more than 12 months. Lithium is working for me. When I get a headache, I take 250mg of lithium and the headache goes away after 2 minutes. Wonderfull.

I've been experiencing cluster headaches off , and on throughout the past few yrs. Everything mentioned in this video, and alot of these comments hits home! However I've noticed letting warm water, or taking a warm / hot shower reduces my pain for some reason. It's something about thats warm water applied to the body that helps it simmer down. Oh & chopping up pieces of ginger to chew on helps to. Cluster headaches can slick ruin your day, but these techniques help me to pull through, & hopefully can help the next person as well, cause I definitely feel you!

Hello cluster headache fellows, I just came to tell u the fastest treatment for this, I'm suffering from this headache for 7 years now, tried everything, all types of meds, all remedies,butox injections, I even electrified my head with dog's electric collar, hot water helps a little, jumping helps a little, sumatriptan works but will take time and leave you like a zombie, oxygen and oxygen and oxygen is the magical treatment for this, within 2 minutes of high flow (around 15 liters) will stop the attack....... an update after 4 years, i went to a chiropractor and did an altas bone adjustment, its pain free , i am cluster headache free for almost 2 years

I started experiencing this evil headache at 15yrs. Most times it wakes me up at night and gave me the terrible pain of my life. Many doctors in my area have tried but none has ever mention cluster, others stop at migraine or vascular headaches. I got the attack from 2012-2015, 2018, now 2022. I need a strong prescription that will kick this thing up for good, although in retrospect I used cafergot for prevention. I have better things to do with my life, not nursing some kind of headache which I know nothing about.

I dealt with this for a month and I was determined to get rid of this pain! Use peppermint oil around your forehead, below your eyes behind your neck and trust me it will burn but it will get rid of the cluster headache. Also I got rid of mines bc I realized that I had a damaged nerve in my neck so I massage it so well on a regular and all of a sudden the pain went away for good.

I've had headaches that last 24/7 for months, on my left side, it's not sharp pain but it's ALWAYS there and it stops me from enjoying activities i should be enjoying, i'm 23 and it affects my social life very much, i'm not as positive and confident person i once was, i'm too serious and anxious, i've gotten to the point where i put on a fake smile and laugh when i'm with my friends, family even though i feel like shit. I've seen neurologist, he's done some basic neurological exams such as me walking the straight line, puting me in different positions, just some basic stuff, when i asked him to make an appoitment for CT scan he refused and said you seem to be fine, my blood tests are fine, thyroid hormones fine as well, i don't know what to do, this has affected my life so much but you can't see it from outward appereance, i feel like a shell of a person i used to be, i'm not depressed i just feel down that i'm going trough this pain and i have no answer, i guess it's not cluster headaches because it's not severe throbing pain.

I've been dealing with this since 2016. Imitrex injections work in 15 min or less but can cause rebound headaches if used to much. In the winter walking around out side while taking in deep breaths of cold air through the nose helps if you can deal with the pain for 10-20 min. The verpimil worked to stop my cycle. Topamax gave me every side effect it had. I couldn't even tie my shoes or talk sometimes. Hope one day these go away and never return.

Unfortunately I sleep and wake with chronic migraine followed by two or three clusters each and every day for the last four years… nonstop … no treatment has helped. Since CMS does not recognize oxygen treatment as efficacious, there are no insurance companies covering the cost here in the States

The left jaw to eye .. then a skill saw in the middle of the left side of the head. Then continues over and over again. Left neck left JaW then the throbs of pain like over and over the pain increases to the point of insanity..!!!

Nose 👃 👀eye's circle ⭕ forehead and full head pain .. Nose and eyes junction, eyebrows = most suffering point. And the last lower part of head, and the middle top part of head =most suffering point.

I have been suffering these exact symptoms for the past 26 years . Since I was 18. This comes every year some times get triggered by hot sun. Some times during cold. I get severe unbearable one sided headache every year around Oct to Dec time frame and it lasts for a week ( daily episodes of 4 to 5 attack) and dissapers. Not sure if this is cluster or migraine or trigominal neurologia 😔

This is my 25th year with at least one cluster cycle a year..I have never met a cluster patient personally so it's nice to have a forum where I can relate to people..besides the agony itself as a episode is happening the worst part was my kids being raised up all those years while in a cycle..I have been on Veraprimil the whole time and am back to using oxygen...sometimes it helps other times it takes as long as if I wasn't using it all..I am 56 and don't know if they will ever stop for good..I used the cluster cycles as a lesson to my kids as bad as they are there are many dealing with worse issues than myself

I suffer from cluster headaches, I’m 14, I have had it for around 4 years. I have realized the best way to deal with the pain is walking around the house and laying down on your back.

Something to note is vitamin B12. I don’t know why, but my B12 is really low and I found this out when I started chugging Monster Energy drinks. I get attacks when I get tired in the day and it kicked them. It’s by no means a cure, but it helps. B12 supplements help. Verapamil, channel blockers. Zolmitriptan abortive and oxygen are all helpful.

Hello guys I think I have cluster headaches. The thing that I do to help relieving the pain is to massage left side of the back of my neck (I get these headaches on the left side of my head). I do this when the pain settles in (you know it when) and try to rub my finger up and down over the muscle. It numbs down the pain and it becomes much bearable. I hope it helped some of you. If yes please reply to me. If you have better solution also please reply.

Im getting absolutely crushed. i'm in 56 days now i,6 to 8 attacks a day that last an hour 'im friggin dying. I cant take much more!!!. WHat can i do . It wont STOP

Mine happen always in the morning, also I've had it on bothsides before, rare but i get it on the right side sometimes but it's mostly on the left, feels like someone stabbing my eye, i also puke been to the hospital many times for it.

I have Ankylosing Spondylitis. At night i am waking with extreme pain and pressure in my head. Sometimes it feels like drilling. The attacks dont last very long. Maybe 30seconds to 1minute. But sometimes 3-4 attacks in one night. I am unsure if this is from inflammation in my spine or something else. It is very frightening for me when this happens and all day I have a milder headache with eye pain. Last week I had a very severe headache that lasted for 3days and I think it was a migraine because I saw flashing lights and my right hand went numb before it. I am taking humira which has helped many symptoms but not these crazy headaches. Brain mri was clear. What can I do to address this. My doctor didn't seem concerned but this is very distressing for me. Thank you

Anyone got any tips on how to focus on something else during the onset of an attack? So far all I got is hot showers and hitting a punching bag, but my knuckles are already raw and the skin on my face is already red from burning water.

I suffer from really bad cluster headaches with tension headaches on waking up the morning as I liftmy heard from my pillow. Or during the day. Then I end up having a seizure as I have epilepsy.

Sir I have stabbing headaches for half a year or 8 months now .. I have taken indometacine . My body temperature is crazy and I get hot all the time . I also feel weak sometimes and I feel fainting . How do I stop indometacine ? Now I’m taking 25 mg every 8 hours for 4 weeks . Symptoms are new and I think it’s the indometacine . The headaches are controlled now but I don’t know how to stop it . My memory has been affected tremendously .

Try taking one of those electric back massagers, crank it up to the highest level and put it under a pillow, then put your face on the pillow. I've had cluster headaches for years and this got rid of mine in minutes. Hope this helps. Cluster headaches are the worst.

Why would this suddenly start happening to me since the past 2 years? I’m 36. Symptoms are mixed and sound like cluster and migraine. I’ve currently been having headaches for 2 weeks now and a migraine today after I didn’t sleep well last night. Ibuprofen does not help but psuedoephedrine helped relieve my right sinus pressure-I notice I have issues with this side of my nose and sinus usually-I also have a broken nose and deviated septum since my late teens. I don’t know what triggers it but thought they were exertion headaches as they would come on after hard physical exercise (BJJ). But recently I’ve been getting headaches for no apparent reason.

I have a question that no doctors can answer I need your answer. So basically my chronic tension headaches used to be at the back of my head over time my head became great my headaches went away. After I had a hair Transplant my chronic headaches came back times 5! Now there at the front of my forehead I can’t concentrate well I don’t feel comfortable and it’s been a year since the hair procedure did the hair procedure since it involves the head bring my headaches back to life? hi after ten years of experiencing migraines could you help me understand why i am affected by this terrible situation. to begin i am a 40 year old male no underlying health issues i guess i am a binge alcoholic meaning i will drink from say friday untill sunday. ill make my point quickly if i have not had any alcohol for several days and then have a drink i awake with the most incredible migraine and vomiting it wipes me out the pain is 11 out of ten the vomiting is so bad however if i drink again the next day i experience no problems this is a question i have been trying to find the answer to for many years

Can we avoid cluster headache attacks? Is there any remedies to 100% cure bloody cluster headache? I am suffering from this since last 12 years before that i also aware it has attacked me so many times but that was not that much severe attack.. but since 2010-11 i found it becomes severe than before and now i am suffering since last 2-3 weaks.. sometime some MBBS MD medicine doctor ignore it and think its migraine and ask many times to took MRI, CT-PNS and sella scan.. then after then reply me this is migraine and migraine that after i told them about my past then they said migraine.. everytime i explained all symptome, how it atack me and how painfull it is.. if i try to tell or explain them more so that they can understand its not migraine, its cluster headache.. then they shout at me or feel egoistic and behave like same, you are very much studies, you have knowledge, then why we doctors need to study and work like this.. but after 10-12 years some of best neurologiest i found and told him. At first instances he said its not migraine, its cluster headache.. he said oxygen therapy is important and very effective for it.. and told me to take some medicines like nexdom tablets and few other to avoid or to avoid severity of attack.. suggested me not to consume alcohol, tobacco related products and smocking.. most and main cause in most cases is smocking as he said.. i felt satisfactory after once he told me as if he has experience and treated many cases like me.. am felt little bit sure and confirmed.. i request all doctor to update their knowledge and never misguide or mislead the patient because someone can easily feel or commit suicide in such situations.. i am vwry shocked when i look at the knowledge of the doctors and their behaviors, how can a human work like and behave like.. everything taking fees for nothing, everything writing too many medicines on prescriptions and ask to eat and eat, do this and that.. if they can not diagnosed or can treat patient then atleast never cost to the patient people, earning money by any how for nothing.. somebody may be poor or lost job or not sufficient sources of income.. if you can treat surely only then take money otherwise you have no right or eligibility to take fees from any person or patient that you can treat or diagnose.. this ethics should be learn and should be taught in in professional ethics. In today world doctor is god for human, if god do like this then there is no anybody for the humanity..

This guy just described my headaches to the T everything that he said but my doctors don't understand what I'm talkin about and the first thing he said was a cluster headache and he gave a quick description of the pain that's what I tell my doctor's but they don't know what it is I hurt so bad and I have to work and I hurt so bad I just want to crawl up in a corner in a closet and die

Dear Doctor Been, I am challenging with this cluster headache for 15 years but no doctor in my country could not possibly determine it unless one who told me this is cluster headache but he prescribe some useless drugs and finally I had to inject Dexamethasone or Ketorolac. As this year my headaches started since last week I searched and I found you and as I saw your video I started verapamil 40mg once when attack started and the pain killed immediately. but today when attack started I did the same with no result. It longs about 1/5 hour as before. So, I just wanna ask how should I use it? how much and how many times a day? I would be very appreciated if you answer me as soon as possible. I get cluster headaches after taking a warm or hot shower. It seems that im alergic to water, lol. It took a while for me to find that this was triggering the headaches. It usually takes a few days for it to go away. Its the most miserable experience Ive ever had.

Mine Started after a chemical exposure in Navy 1984, I burn my nose and eyes. 5 Years of HA/mucus, then HA, then HA/dizzy, then dry eyes/HA, but HA comes at 4-5am and it drives me crazy until under control. Now 35 years later and I still get them. You ever see a sinus burn that dose this?

Im not aware of nasal verapamil, the major treatment is nasal sumpatriptan/zomitriptan or by injection for aborting.

I experience theses symptoms. But it is moderately painful is this a different type of headache

So Cluster Headache is pain around the eyes, then what if defective eyes are to blame? I mean people who wear corrective eyeglasses and contact lenses. They can see clear but again their corneas are still not fully corrected?

Let's admit that we have this disease. My advice would be to stay away from fermented drinks and foods. Beer, wine and bread are among them. Especially the bread you will eat for dinner is very dangerous. In my experience, sourdough and cereal bread does not cause pain. Please share your experiences and recommendations too. My headache started when the top of my right eyebrow started hurting and then later at noon it started to go worse, when i woke up my head (forehead and above both eyebrows) and now it happens everyday at random times sometimes at day. I am in pain, i am iritated and I don't know what to do. Please help. Edit: im fine now
