Hi Kirt, thanks for the video, I just replaced my clutch and fly wheel in my 2007 D40 Navara. Can I provide a few tips for everyone regarding my experience. There are 2 x bolts at the top of the gearbox/Bell housing that no videos seem to show. I could not undo (let alone locate) these 2 bolts from under the car. I had to access these from under the bonnet. This required me to to bend my arms into positions they’ve never been. I’d recommend removing the entire exhaust system, didn’t take long and it allowed me to drop the gear box, making it a lot easier to replace the flywheel/clutch. I hired a transmission trolley jack to manoeuvre the gearbox which was easy to use and saved so much time. Keep the gearbox level when you remove it so you don’t lose and fluid.
Thanks for the video. I have a 2011 Thai built 2.5 diesel single cab and this video tells me the job isn't too difficult. My key concern was the weight of the gearbox being a safety issue. It needs to be well supported and secured before pulling it off the bell housing.
Your clutch pedal is soft because you torque the plate down properly Over tightening can cause the pedal to be hard You do get judder to start with until the clutch and flywheel are bedded in. good video thanks for posting
Over a somewhat relaxed weekend. If you were wanting to smash it out, maybe around 5 to 6 hrs? But i was doing it at a chilled pace, so Sat and Sun and not long days.
Great video! Very straightforward and informative. About to tackle our work ute which has begun slipping badly whille towing. We obviously need to miniimise the downtime. Thank you for your tips.
Hi, I had a mech change my flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, and release bearing. However, the flywheel bolt has broken twice. Any idea what we could be doing wrong?
be aware the clutch plate will go on the wrong way round, the stand out part goes away from the engine not into the recess of the fly wheel. I tested it so i could type this post.
I had the car for roughly 6mths after the install. It was great, you could tell the difference between old and new. I thought going to the single mass was going to benefit me, as I tow a lot and it did. If I wasn't towing a great deal, dual would be better, just for the drivability aspect.
Hi Kirt great video im thinking of changing my 08 40 king cab's clutch soon and was just wondering how you have found the blustered clutch after a year of use?
I made it on the floor with jack stands - and it was my first time. Used a motorcycle lift to hold/ move the gearbox. To disassemble it took 21 hours. To put all back, it took 14 hours. There was sure some hours used to sit down and think. But to put all back was quite fluent; that gives maybe the idea of the total hours needed; maybe some 30 hours would be good without breaks. In workshop garage they have standardized it to take 6 hours in total in Finland - I asked the firm price quotation for it. However, they have all the lifts available and occasionally two pairs of hands, when needed. I got quotations from 900 eur - 2000 eur. The high quality AISIN clutch costed 300 eur. I had to purchase only some new bolts in addition to that; some of the old ones snapped or were so rusty, that I changed them - speaking about the support beam bolts. This all is for D22 with a solid flywheel and AWD ! D40 looks quite a different one; you have there the front drive shaft still connected and you start to open the bolts where the bell is connected to the motor? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KPOPH2x-1xg.html
Where did you find the torque specs for the kit mate? I bought the same for my 2011 navara but there’s no info enclosed and I can’t find anything online. You able to point me in the right direction?
Unsure of part no. I bought from Blusteele, through ebay. I typed Blusteele Survivor Series Navara D40, and it came up with a few different kits. Mine was called, heavy duty survivor clutch and flywheel kit for D40. You will have to make sure you get the flywheel that fits, i.e. the only difference you need to know is if your vehicle is 126kw or 140kw. They are very quick with message responses at Blusteele.
