In this video we meet Kevin, Alicia and Amelie as they tackle their art and school supplies clutter once and for all. Creating a space that children can organize and keep tidy on their own can be tough, but with this new sorted macro system, picture labels and tidy up routine, the kid clutter is a thing of the past!

THANK YOU Cas❤️ you are truly something special, indeed 🤗

My kids' grade two teacher told me from her experience with her own kids, you can easily curate your kids art and writing if you only keep the pieces that are related to who they are at any given age. So family portraits or writing about their likes/etc. Her own children went through years of work and only reacted to those items. I have done that over the years and it still holds true for us going into high school. I found it an easy rule for curating. :)
@Vro-
@Vro- 3 года назад
Another great idea is instead of throwing away some of the childrens art work is to send some to aunts/uncles, grandparents or special people in their life. I loved getting things from my sister when the kids were smaller and I also think that if I get rid of it down the line, it's not so final on their end!

I love this! I don't know why I never thought about designating a time in the daily routine just for cleaning up. It makes so much more sense! I was wondering if you had any tips or ideas for military families or anyone else that moves often. You always say to organize for the space you have, but that space we have changes every few years! And we don't always know ahead of time what the house looks like. Organizing our stuff is a frustrating cycle. Can we bring organization with us somehow? Also, your quiz was fun! I'm a butterfly!

I am totally a children's artwork hoarder! I got these frames that I could just place the art in over and over. The idea of thinking, "I don't have to throw this out today" and the house not looking junky-win. It helped me pick favorites out later in the year which sometimes moved to permanent frames. Even though I have kids graduating from high school now, my house is still filled with their art, our favorite pieces, but in proper frames. Another way I calmed my nerve was to allow the kids to choose their art to gift through the year. We make cards mostly. That way we could feel good about "getting rid" of art. Only the favorite favorites survived past a year of holidays, 'I'm thinking of you' Grandma & Grandpa or 'Get well soon' notes. My kids learned how good it felt to give their things away, that it was OK to really live something and still gift it. That's a really hard lesson for sentimental types. Another plus, as a working mom, personal gifts were already made for the exception of writing their name and a quick message; it saved money and people loved the personal stuff. If it ended up in the trash, at least we didn't have to deal with that part. Lol My favorite reminder & strategy on this video was disciplining myself to do a 5 min tidy & doing the labels for non readers. I love labels but if you have non readers, it is more difficult. A reminder that pictures can work is like...👆💡DING!... why didn't I think of that. Lol

I agree about helping your children learn how to be selective with what they keep. As far as artwork or other collections, a great thing to do is to take photos of anything the child and parent have decided to let go is to take pictures of them. It works especially good if the child can make groupings first. Also, some artwork could be folded and sent as s greeting card to grandparents or other loved ones.

Your "bug" system has helped me so much. i tried so many others with no success but, now I feel I am pretty good at organizing. Slowly I am getting my house in shape and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have anxiety and chaos triggers it. My house is calm and visually appealing.
@HereIAm247
@HereIAm247 Год назад
Yes, same here! I still struggle with pin-pointing my organising style - but maybe different organizing styles work better for different rooms of the house? :) It is actually kind of crazy that society have one 'general' organizing style, and anyone who don't adhere to that is seen as 'lazy' or 'disorganised'. It is just plain wrong, and very narrow minded.

Great organising. Well done to all of you. I totally agree about clear containers. I find that when they’re inside a cupboard I’m OK with them but if I try to organise things outside of a cupboard they really stress me out. I’m much better with solid containers. I bought a couple of yellow ones from a shop in the UK & they really brighten my lounge up.

I am a ladybug but I think that I might be more cricket than ladybug.. I share a house with my mom and she is a pure ladybug. I had to amend our systems to allow her to quickly see, access and put things away. The cricket in me sort things afterwards, but it keeps things organised and calm at home. I read a book on clutter and the author said that things should be easier to pack away than to take out. My brothers’ children would visit and watch dvds and afterwards I spent ages to alphabetise it again. I just decided that they can search for it and I just make sure the dvds are in the correct boxes and packed away. It made my life much easier.

That is so encouraging! I always wanted to be a cricket (everything micro-organized, neat and tidy), thought I'm probably a ladybug (because seeing clutter stresses me out) but now I think I might actually be a butterfly, because I store almost everything in large categories or out where I can see and quickly grab it. And I'm definitely ok with that, because butterflies are my favorite animal! I'll definitely take inspiration from this for the next time I get a chance to reorganize my stuff :)

I am a professional artist- I do not keep all my artwork. I throw lots away, and that’s because it isn’t all masterpieces. Some are just practice, some don’t turn out like I want and are just learning. If I kept everything, I wouldn’t be able to move in my studio and I wouldn’t be able to sell it all. This helps me with my kid’s artwork, as not every piece of theirs is masterworks either. Don’t feel bad about throwing away their work. It’s all a part of the learning process!
