During the late 80s and early 90s, aside from Jordan, there wasn't a better a shooting guard than Clyde. He led the Blazers to the NBA Finals in '90 and '92. He led the Blazers to a league-best 63 wins in the '91 season. Also, Clyde consistently put up high stats in rebounds, steals, assists and points. I'm glad he was able to get his championship with Houston in '95; easily one of the most forgotten greats and one of the best players of the 90s.
They didnt have drexler only. They even had Terry porter and Kevin duck worth also Clifford Robinson and buck William's also a good coach with the best defense. Along with a deep bench mark Bryant and ainge including kersey. That's the same team that almost got sabonis
If the blazers gas beaten the lakers in 91. They would gave won the title. BUT I'm spe as ski g only of the game was fairly called. Because the NBA tips the finger on the refs
Full stat line for the game: 42pts on 18-33FGAs, 1-3 from 3pt range (56.0eFG%) 5rebs 9asts 0TOVs 8stls 1blk ...and a W against the 1988 DPOY and "GOAT".
The way they ran the floor back then was scary, the skill set of players today in general has evolved such as everything does. But the toughness, and pace of the game was definitely different! Clyde was no scrub that’s for sure, Nd them TrailBlazers waaaaas hooping! Good Gawd 🔥🔥🔥
Blazers were the king of fast break basketball. It was primarily fueled by their excellent defense and rebounding. The size and speed of their backcourt was an advantage on the break and was fueled by Drexler.
Yall do know that Jordan had 50 something points in this game dont yall!Unlike today back then superstars that played the same position guarded each other....Drexler came in the league in 83 an Jordan came in 84....They had games like this all the time.....Drexler wasnt never no slouch.....He was an All-American in college an a Top 50 NBA player an on the 92 Dream Team!
For the record let it be known that this is also the game where Michael Jordan yanked Clyde out of the sky when he was going for his 9th dunk and slam Clyde on his back.... I don't know why you guys edited that part out, those are the last free throws Clyde was putting in for his 42nd point, those Free throws was after Jordan gave him a flagrant foul.... The reason this part of the footage would have been important it would have showed you exactly what Jordan was alluding to in the last dance when he said "Clyde was definitely a threat" 🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀
Where was this in 92'? I really thought Clyde and his Blazers should have won that title. Yes, glad he won with Houston, but should have been his second.
87-88 I think, no buck Williams, Danny ainge came in 91. This was the beginning of a great stretch of basketball for the blazers. Bulls run started in 92 when the blazers run ended.
Clyde had 1 bad game I'm the finals , in 5 of those 6 games he averaged 30. Also realize that buck Williams and Kevin duckworth were not supposed to be the guys there . It was suppose to sabonis and Bowie who both got hurt
If only Houston traded Ralph Sampson to Portland for pick and or drexler. Houston would challenge the bulls in finals. Or we could had Jordan, drexler and Olajuwon on same team.
The Bulls and Jordan were a stronger team physically and mentally by '92 finals. And Drexler was playing with a swollen knee that needed arthroscopic surgery the next season
everytime you think drexler is gonna just lay that baby up he somehow just ends up finding a way to dunking it. the guy is amazing its too bad hes not rated higher
To think that Portland team coulda had Drexler and Jordan as the starting guards and a young Sabonis at center if the stars had lined up slightly different.
@Kabir Muthu Basketball is a team game, if Drexler can put up those kind of numbers but Jordan still best them I'd look at the performance of the players around Jordan. I know Jordan didn't win everything, I actually don't have him as my GOAT
Mike had over 50pts this game. And more rebounds than Clyde. Clyde had a good game but keep in mind you're only looking at his highlights. Jordan got off this game and ate Clyde up this game.
@@CliffPierson777 1) Correctly speaking he had one spectacular slam dunk (gm 2) and one putback dunk (gm 5) entire series 2) He gave MJ zero problems on both sides of the court... Drexler was step slower, hesitating, prone to make simplest turnovers, often losing coordination, when tried to outmaneuver someone, easily blocked by H Grant or S Williams 3) Drexler's natural born talent let him to score his average stats from regular season... but laziness and a bit of arrogance (Dr Ramsay's opinion about him) meant that entire career he was unable to work more so as to eliminate his obvious weaknesses and rise to higher level, so as not to be ridiculed by Jordan during the most important games... the finals 4) It wasn't MJ heroics which beat the Blazers (and Drexler), it was Bulls whole team defence (which Drexler, allegedly such a spectacular player, could not shake off) 5) That is why most fans simply don't remember 1992 Finals (maybe except Jordan's shrugs). It was advertised as a duel of two the best players of that time... and Drexler failed to show up 6) Drexler deserves a place among 50 greatest, that's for sure.. but he is not underrated as his fans worry, he is rather forgotten (as a Trailblazer)... mainly thanks to himself. Drexler knows it, so nowadays he wants to be remembered as a Houston player only...
@@dzidekkrepak8289 This is 100% true, & not to slight Clyde, the 92' finals were billed as the two elite guards in the game, especially considering Magic's retirement, and their teams were extremely comparable. Simply put, Mike just outclassed him in the finals
@@PhilBurr100 Thank you. To be as precise as possible, I do not bash Drexler because he lost to Jordan... I condemn the e m b a r r a s s i n g way he did it. IMO he started to age noticeably after 1990 (losing agility was most obvious) and despite superficially similar stats to MJ, one on one he was no match to this maniac of self-improvement who Jordan always had been, on both sides of a court.
@@dzidekkrepak8289 Honestly he was a very funny player. His shot, his dribble, his movements. He played good throughout the 90' playoffs, and 92' playoffs. 91' he should've stepped up more against the Lakers and they almost lost to the 8th seed Sonics in the 1st round. Jordan was quoted in "Jordan Rules" as saying "They (Blazers) just take a bunch of dumb shots and think they can just get every rebound. That is true. They had Porter, Kersey, Drexler, Duckworth; couldn't get out of the 1st round until Buck Williams made the difference
0:15 Drexler scores on a fast break, but nonetheless Jordan is defending him on this play . 1:05 Jordan is guarding him. 1:24 Drexler got this steal on Jordan. 1:48 Jordan is slow to get back on defense, leaving Drexler wide open to cut to the basket. 2:14 This is in a transition, but he still scores on Jordan. 2:51 Drexler scores on Jordan. 3:59 After Drexler passes the ball, Jordan sags off him, then he gets a wide open pass and scores. 4:41 Jordan tries to gamble for the steal, which allows Drexler to easily score. 5:11 Drexler shoots and hits with Jordan in his face, who doesn’t even try to contest the shot. 6:22 Drexler gets wide open on him again for an easy basket, because he attempts to try to gamble for another steal. So more than half of his field goals came against Jordan. and he beat his defense with passes on many of these plays too. *DPOY* lmao.
@@justannbafan3646 So basically fast breaks and he made what two or three fgm on Jordan. The steal wasn't even Jordan's fault it came off a bad pass which Drexler played the passing lane.
@@zogood3495 1:05 not a fast break. He drives into lane against Jordan and lays the ball in. 2:44 not a fast break. he gets open on Jordan for an alley oop. 3:55 not a fast break. Jordan sags off of Drexler anticipating his teammate to get a rebound , and he leaves Drexler open for a bucket . 4:41 not a fast break. MJ attempts to gamble for a steal , which allows Drexler to get an easy score . 5:11 not a fast break . He hits a mid range shot in MJ’s face . 6:22 not a fast break . he gets open on MJand lays the ball up. so barely any of the time stamps I referenced in the previous comment were fast breaks , and even in one of the plays in transition (1:48) Jordan is at half court instead of guarding his man , which allows Drexler to make a cut to the basket . A large chunk of his numbers came as a result of Jordan’s defensive lapses, and even with Jordan guarding him face up , he still had no problem scoring, except for maybe two missed shots . On the steal, MJ gets the ball and Drexler swats it away from him, so it’s more good defense on Drexler’s part rather than bad offense . and he actually had more than one steal against Jordan. like 3 or 4 of his 8 total . Ultimately for the game, he scored 42 points on 57.1% shooting, well above his overall scoring numbers for the season.
@@justannbafan3646 1:05 legit score, 2:44 legit score, 3:55 Drexler grabbed an offensive rebound (not on Jordan), 4:41 & 6:22 were gambles trying to get a steal and 5:11 was a jumper on Jordan. The only misses I counted in the entire video came with Jordan guarding him. So that's a total of 10pts from the time referenced not counting the Offensive rebound which led to a score because the center and forwards responsibility were to get those.
@@zogood3495 “Not on Jordan” because he sagged off Drexler after he passed the ball off, which left Drexler open for an easy score and Pippen had to come from behind to try to contest the shot. Jordan gambled for a steal on two of the plays Drexler scored, so a large chunk of his numbers came as a result of his defensive lapses. Drexler only missed two shots with MJ as his primary defender (at least shown in this video), compared to nine baskets he got either with Jordan guarding him, or as a result of MJ’s lazy defense which left him free to get an easy basket (sagging off of him, taking possessions off, gambling for a steal).
