It's one of the curses of playing in a small market, especially back then. In his autobiography from 1990, Kareem referred to Clyde as the West Coast Jordan, which was a bit of a stretch, but definitely not ridiculous.

Drexler was good on the fast break as anyone in the history of the nba. He runs fast 100 miles per hour like a running back in the nfl going for the end zone. He put so much pressure on the defense whether he passed it or finished it off

He gave that Portland team everything. I'm glad he got a well deserved ring with the Rockets, but he was dominating with Portland. Drexler and Hakeem had chemistry together from college and would've been great had they played more in their primes.

Clyde Drexler was a generous teammate and a true gentleman off the court. He and Kiki were in a restaurant and I asked for an autograph and they asked me to join them after I said He was my son's idol and my son was a great young player. We chatted for 20 minutes and Clyde loved hearing that my son wished we lived next door to him... I added "I wish that too, cuz we'd live in a better neighborhood!" He loved that. My son still has those autographs, truly treasures them. Thank you, Clyde Drexler, for being an exemplary role model and for years of truly amazing basketball!

I really think Clyde is every bit as comparable as Jordan. What lost the championships for the Blazers were last minute chokes by Cliff Robinson, and sadly Jerome Kersey with bad decisions. I remember watching those turnovers happen with a few minutes left in the very close games and it turned the tables. While Clyde didn't quite have the hang time Jordan did, his moves in the paint to roll the ball in and avoid a block were every bit as impressive as Jordan's.

The Blazers were such a fun team to watch that year with Drexler, Porter, and Kersey (RIP). If they hadn't choked against the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals, I think they would have given the Bulls much more of a fight for the title. The Blazers actually swept the regular season series from the Bulls that year, 2-0, and showed that they had the athleticism to at least match the Bulls. (With an NBA-best 63 wins, the Blazers would have even had home court advantage against the Bulls.)

I often wonder about that. That was this Portland team's best opportunity. The following year in 92', Portland was good, but not as good as the previous year. Chicago was the exact opposite. They were good in 91', but better in 92'. I also often wonder what if Sabonis was on this roster since he was drafted in 1986 by the Blazers? I think he would have immensely helped Portland's half court offense which at times got stagnant. Charles Barkley's observation was spot on when he called Portland and asked to be traded there from Philadelphia because of Portland's half court offensive issues. Too bad Portland didn't seem to agree.
