Location: near Resco Drive and railroad tracks
System: Sandusky County/Clyde
Testing time: First Saturday of every month at noon
Testing time: 12:01:08 PM (1 minute late)
Cycle when tested: Full alert and/or attack
Cameras used: Canon PowerShot SX540HS (main shot & audio), Canon PowerShot SX620HS (damper shot)
Recording distance from siren: 165 feet (tight shot), 25 feet (damper shot)
Loudness: Very loud when the dampers are open - 119.4 dBC
Other enthusiasts present: Connor (‪@Thunderbolt1000Tfan‬ ), Aaron (‪@OhioOutdoorWarningSirens‬ )
Other notes: After the Jackson Park 'bolt, we went to Clyde to hear this infamous 3T22 in person. Most of you probably already know what the deal is with this thing, but for those that don't, the dampers are wired to shut whenever power is applied to the chopper motor. It's not very loud when the dampers are shut, but when they open it gets a lot louder. This month, Clyde did attack but no alert, just like in August of last year. I don't think the cameras picked it up very well, but this thing put out AWESOME echoes! Unfortunately, the batteries fell out of my decibel meter, and I didn't realize it until about a minute before the test, so I was unable to get a decibel reading from this one. Connor still got readings from his meter though; it read 105.1 dBC from where he and Aaron were set up (around 150-200 feet away), and maxed at 119.4 from right underneath, both with the dampers open. It was particularly loud from underneath when the dampers were open, we could all really feel it rattling our bodies. I've been wanting to go to this for some time now because I wanted to hear it in person and I also wanted to get a shot where you can see the dampers close and open. To my knowledge, only one other video of this has a shot of the damper, and even that only shows the damper opening after the alert cycle. I used my 620 for the damper shot, so there is no wide shot in this video. Anyways, this was a super cool experience to hear up close, and I'm very glad that I finally got to hear this in person and that I was able to get a successful damper shot during the full duration of the test. Enjoy!

Yes, 1003 solenoids block the complete air output so the chopper has no air to move.

In my honest opinion, attack cycles with a curved peak rather than a flat peak sounds way more terrifying for a 2/3t22

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's because there's no air getting to them when it's winding up.

@@HSETMYou are correct, the dampers shut when the motor is powered, causing no air to get into the siren when it’s running making it sound funky

I lived in Ohio for awhile, and a neighboring county used these to call volunteer firefighters in an emergency. "We would like input from the citizens of Utica about our "Fire Whistle" more commonly referred to as the "fire siren" in our little village. This siren can also serve a dual purpose and alert residents that a tornado warning has been issued. The siren used to be the only form of alert that the fire department was needed, followed by phone communicated. These days we have greatly upgraded and each member has a radio and/or pager along with a mobile text to alert member that they are needed to respond. Over the past few years we have received complaints that hearing the siren blow for fire department calls has become a nuisance. How ever once in a while the siren does get blown for fire calls and people remark how they like hearing it, stating that it is part of Utica's history, or people hear it and say a prayer for our safety. This will not affect the sirens usage during a severe weather emergency" I was a little eerie hearing it go off at random times 🤣

I'm convinced they're just gonna let this and the other 3T22 run until they die since there are other sirens nearby, their coverage would be perfectly fine without them.

is the solenoids connected to the siren motor or its just coded like this?

They're wired in a way that makes them shut whenever power is applied to the chopper motor.

I like how almost nobody is talking about it sounding muffled and higher pitched! The reason why is because less air intake means less air resistence then it means chopper spins faster! Which is better

How effective are the dampers? I honestly would've expected the siren to basically go almost completely silent with the dampers shut, but it didn't.
