Is just me, or the bots are painting at distance, from the panel to the gun, which can cause a lot of orange peel? That looks like more than 10 inches away. Paint is coming out like a mist. I'm thinking atomization is set up a greater distance. Can anyone explain this?
These things scare me for some reason. Kinda like the old robotic characters at Chuck e cheeses that played music and moved around would scare me after they turned off, and were just sitting there still.
obviously for multiple reason, the first one is that otherwise the robots will be painted over time with whatever residual paint droplets are released on the air each time a vehicle gets painted....that will not only look ugly but it will begin accumulating undesired material (and additional weight) on all robots parts/joins.....etc....it would be a nasty mess and will shorten the maintenance cycle of the robots....
When I see show room cars have orange peel on them, I’m not impressed. Humans still do a better job getting the final product to look amazing and glassy!
+wolf lair (Woolfman) Sure they can its called walking, humans don't have to though because if you haven't noticed vehicles are divided into panels. Both get the job done but there is just no substitution to the quality a human can put out the door... this is just fast and cheap for the owner of the company is all, for as much as painters costs per hour to have around all the time.. the overspray waist cost is nothing in comparison to paying a quality painter.. it all equates to more money in their pockets this route... it looks decent and that's good enough for them is all. Peace
nothing compares to a real painter. good thing they painted that car a SOLID color and not a metallic or a kandy. no amount of programing can make up for experience.
For everyone saying a human can do a better job than the robot...here's an honest question. I don't know much about the subject, only that on cars coming out of the factory where robots painted the car the paint and orange peel looks perfectly consistent. But when I take my car to a body shop the orange peel is not consistent and I get different kinds of textures depending on the angles. In my ignorance on the topic, and being a little OCD, I would prefer a robot to paint my car and have a perfectly consistent amount of paint and texture. And if you say humans can get a perfectly glassy surface, let the robot apply more clear and then wet sand it to the desired level of orange peel you are looking for. No? Am I missing something?
ok, to all the people saying these robots pinters are so great. Well you dont know squat about painting. i helped install robot paint machines at several car manufacturers and was at Dupont for their robotics which make these look like kids toys. They do do a nice job painting....However their jobs they do are just fir production. They do not do as good a job as a professional painter they went and painted, wet sanded and buffed the paint...not even close. Go outside and look at your car or to any car lot and look at the brand spanking new cars paint. It is not flawless it will have orange peel maybe slight and some more than others but will still be there. One other thing is the paint. Car manufacturers do not use a high quality paint because of cost. I have been on several jobs installing robotics and been around it since i was 13 so yea i know what im talking about. Do these machines do a good job sure. However never show quality just will not happen.
What is the highest quality car paint in your opinion? I'm getting my car painted by a real spray painter, not some dodgy machine, and want to get the best paint I can.
good day, the quantity and quality of painting used depends from the used Spraying equipment. In this solution we have been using special mixing and dosing gear pumps. Contact us on gallo@cmarobot.it for further information
This is why new car paint jobs have massive amounts of orange peel on them. Motorcycles still have the human touch and come out look glassy and amazing!
most people keep thinking that a corporation's main function is to "create jobs". No it isn't. It's to make a product and sell it for money. Manufacture, sell, and make money. And by replacing humans as the middle men, with more efficient, cheaper, and faster machines. That's a pretty good trade off for these business owners. Bad for the worker who lost his job to the robot. Great for the corporate bottom line
To the car painters saying a robot car painter can't do a better job than a person, yes, indeed they can. What is stopping these robots from replacing you at the moment is probably their cost. Eventually, they might become common place. Instead of denying this might happen, expand your skill set. Learn how to operate these things. Start learning another trade in your spare time. Don't resist technology, work with it.
+SepherStar I agree mostly of what you say but these robots can only paint a bare shell of a car when its striped down to metal they could never be practical in a production shop not for a long time anyway. and yes these cost in the millions I don't see auto shops using these becoming common place within a hundred years.
+Señor Sandman well your almost seeing that now with illegals  and cheap labor the pay is so low for manual  labor you may as well let robots do it. lets do something else automotive is that way also most body shops pay shit some because of greed some because they cant pay a fair wage. I agree let the illegals or robots do manual labor and lets all become more smart more technical
+SepherStar I disagree with you. I want to see them blend an adjacent panel or do any partial repair for that matter. It's great on a full paint but I do not ever see it working on a partial repair. Since 75 percent of all repairs are 3 panels or less...
I think your forgetting that some people like what they do they enjoy spray painting cars with their bare hands and when you take that away from someone your not just taking their job but also their passion. And thats not good. Would i rather a robot spray a classic restoration job or a human with a soul. i would take the human any day of the week. Its not about what you can Buy .... Its about how good you can do it yourself with your bare hands. I bet you have a cushy office job and have never been in this industry so sadly you are unqualified to even comment.
Easy Calipers Just being honest...someday these machines could very well come down in price such that they are within the financial reach of auto body shop owners, whether anyone else likes it or not. And no, I don't have a cushy office job.
Very slow process I worked as a sprayer at Jaguar cars UK and we hand painted 125 cars a day spraying a car in less than 3 minutes, So these robots could never match a man spraying these cars.
yes really slow process with these robots....but you can not compare a fully automated line that puts out 40-60 cars an hour to a manufacture where you only have limited numbers of potential cars sold, and thus can afford the comfortness of having manual sprayers instead of paying millions for buying a sophisticated and fully automated paintshop. which JLR did now .
These bots paint way different from factory bots in the united states the ones in the united states have multiple spray heads and paint alot faster than these.
Captains of Industries have found a more efficient, cheaper, faster, and more productive way of manufacturing their products, Without having to spend money on human labor costs, employee salaries, employer based health care coverage, and 401K retirement.
Paul Page you are right . One by one the labor force will be not working and can’t buy these products and the company’s will be saying no ones buying anymore I guess
Agree with you Brando nothing a good painter can't do at a fraction of the cost, just some smart ass trying to put us painters out of work, not impressed
+muddyfunkster77the key is good painter..how many good painters, or good body men are their? not many all hackers nowadays the trade will be taken over soon by illegals, and the pay will be so low why not let a robot do it?
+neil aprea yes there are a lot of crap painters out there trying to make a living but the ones that are good wouldn't be impressed by this a good bodywork technician can straighten out a dent and rebuild the front end of a car....robots can't they don't have craftsmanship!
How to NOT use a Robot for painting carbodys ! No gun-off and gun-ons - producing a lot of overspray. Standard is painting from top to the bottom to overpaint the paintfog on the carbody. Here allways change from front to top to bottom to side to end to top again to front. Using a double-gun by very low paint-speed - why ? The robots are only so good like the programming - and this looks really bad ........
All the people in the comments saying a human can paint better than a robot make me laugh. Robots don’t get tired, impatient, or have fluctuations in efficiency. It follows to code without missing a beat. These won’t completely remove the need for humans though because you still need someone to set it all up, disassemble the car, program the machines, and, more importantly, sand and buff the entire car. So relax guys lol
hey ,if anyone else is searching for car paint spraying techniques try Bablim Paint Booster (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my neighbor got cool results with it.
It’s so random and makes no sense? I could easily beat 2 robot arms by time. Plus you apply your materials how you want them to look especially if there metallic. I’m sure it works well but it has to have some bad days like it runs the whole paint job.
Brutal programming on the robots. I stopped watching after a dozen mistakes. Robots are only as good as the programmer. These hose bundles wont last very long, wrist is pulling too hard on them.
