Thanks for making such a detailed video and explaining every part. Most videos gloss over them. Very appreciated. Looking forward to viewing the rest of the series.

I find CW swa glands with the olive very effective for terminating braided cables. I pass the braid through then back over the olive a smidge and it tightens up lovely, with the added advantage of the compression fitting, assuming the cable is large enough in diameter to accommodate the gland.

I am glad I came across your vid, I am a recently retired electrical engineer with a passion for 3DP and CNC, I have been watching MyRobertadams who has a similar machine but US, I have been sourcing the metal parts here in UK but the cost especially machining is very expensive, the kit you feature is exactly what I want thanks I will make enquiries at the link you mentioned, looking forward to joining you on your journey, many thanks. I'd love to see a parts list if you have the time. Particularly where you got that base from. It looks very well made.
@moodophile

Seconded; I know you're probably avoiding giving an exhaustive list of suppliers (although I spied the odd tell-tale RS yellow p/n stickers)....But please could you point us in the direction of the source for that pre-made CNC table. Maybe I'm using the wrong google search string, but I keep drawing a blank trying to find something similar.
@jwflame
@jwflame 7 лет назад
This is the base: www.cnc1.eu/en/KH1000GSKIT.htm although I purchased it from them via ebay rather than from their website. They do not appear to be listing items on ebay currently. They do supply that and others as fully assembled machines, however I only purchased the base mechanics from them.

WOW that's so well built. You could mill aluminum with that. What's up with the Z axis? At the top there's a plate the holds the bearing for the ball screw. Why dose that plate hang over and block the Z spindle mounting plate from going up farther?

I have the same spindle ect, slightly larger machine. You;l easily cut aluminium, brass and copper all day on it. I even machine steel but at much lighter cuts. For non-ferrous metals I use an ethanol mist / spray as a coolant and lubricant. Single fluted carbide end mills from Datron. Keep the spindle speed up as high as she go's its a bit like a 2-stroke engine, not much punch in the lower revs.

Very interesting project! I'm looking forward to the future videos!! Looks like it took a fair amount of planning and research. What do you mean when you say you needed metalworking tools for the mechanical assembly. Can you buy it as a kit to put together yourself (that would only require some screwdrivers etc) or did you mean do actually machine everything yourself?
@jwflame
@jwflame 7 лет назад
You can buy rails, bearings, ballscrews and other parts as separate items, but to assemble them into a useful machine it will be necessary to fabricate the base frame, mounting plates, and so on, all of which will require cutting metal to accurate dimensions, drilling and threading holes, and for the frame for this one, welding and riveting parts of it together.

Hello John, great video, very impressive machine. Do you have somewhere a parts list? Mostly looking for where you got the assembled x-y-z device (don't know what to call that). In the past I have tried making something like this myself, but couldn't get the rigidity that was needed. This pre-assembled x-y-z device seems to solve that part at least. Be grateful for a link to a shop selling it (or even the correct name for searching). Thanks for sharing. I enjoy this very much!

John, curious if you think the ethernet smooth stepper controller and the associated breakout board is worth it? It's an absolute ton more expensive than a $50 breakout board on eBay... just wondering is the price difference is justified. thanks for your videos btw, I've learnt a lot. cheers!

Hi, just came across your channel, very interesting, I've started 3D printing my parts for a mpcnc (mostly printed cnc) looking forward to watching your version. Quick check of your website, do you provide any links for the shielded cable? Iv really struggled to find any at a good price here in the U.K. Cheers P.s, no need for link, I've just caught what you called it, CY cable, Iv been searching shielded cable and only getting expensive rolls from the USA.

looking at the bob and processorboard makes me wonder why they dint soldered the female plugs to the bottom of the processorboard doing that would mean you can basicly plug the processorboard straight intoo the bob so it becomes one unit
