"well spoken" wasn't the only thing I said. plus I am black myself, and I would say what I said whether I was referring to John F Kennedy, or this lady for that matter. But I do understand, the history of black people, as a whole, being patronized, and discriminated against made us think that even nice words, or compliments when said by others also come from the same place of patronization. Sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't. it's life, that's just one thing: we don't get to choose who we are, when we come to this world 🌍.
I stumbled across this lass's music quite by accident and loved it immediately and also later on all the other Cora players as well, (they mostly seem to be more or less related to one another,) but what still leaves me completely gobsmacked is amount of sheer discipline and hard work as well as talent that it must have taken them all to get to be that good. Kudos.
Respect to my little sister. She’s what I call a true artist, wanting to empower the next generation and leave a true legacy, be it cultural etc!!! One love ❤️.. looking up to you sis 👏🏼🙏🏼
@@BrotherAyouba You say "respect to my little sister" but that was figuratively speaking I understand now. In the beginning of the video she said her brother taught her the Kora.
She's amazing. Taking the Kora in new directions. Impossible not to fall in love with her through her music. Gambia is a masterpiece. Make sure you hear the long version.

I'm a very proud Senegambian!..my mom is Gambian my dad is Senegalese! I attended the Senegalese in Banjul before leaving for the USA while in fifth grade. I love Kora music!
Love her music, her philosophy and her intentions for our African people. Great initiative, can't wait to see the Academy completed. May the Creator continue to bless her. Keep Rising Queen Sona Jabarteh 🙌🏽👑💯🖤🇬🇲
Much respect to this young talented artist. She’s actually investing in structures that would benefit many future artists in the Gambia and perhaps the entire region.
Such an amazing human being! I am from Eswatini and I only discovered Sona yesterday when I got curious about Gambian music. I have not stopped listening to her music since. I don’t understand the words, not sure if it’s Wolof, but when I am listening to her I feel so relaxed.
I can't begin to imagine what the world would be like with out the Kora. I love string instruments. I haven't learned to properly play one but I love the sound they make. It was a video of a kora player that led me to her music. Not only the instrument but the Mande language is so beautiful as well. Her voice and spirit harmonize so well with this instrument.I'm really happy she's trying to keep the culture alive by building a musical school.
I HAVE ALWAYS THOUGHT SHE WAS ANGEL SENT HERE TO HELP PEOPLE AND INDEED THAT'S WHAT SHE IS DOING. NICE WORK SONA KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. YOU ARE SUCH A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN ALL ROUND
I was in Gambia and I have learnd a little bit cora playing from a child! He give me his cora as a present for me! It was so wonderful! It was in the year 1991. Jona you are so a wonderful woman an makes very good music and things. 🤗👍
I love her and what she's doing. But I also hope she creates new music!!! It's been a while! Her music puts me into another world, so hopefully there will be more of that :) Thank you Sona for gracing this planet!!
I just discovered her recordings, and was worried why she hasn' t recorded much recently......now I know what important work she has been doing instead!!!!!! Bravo Sona!!!!!
Ms.Sona Jobarteh's fresh and uniquely inspired artistic vision, along with her application of it, has spectacular implications. It is capable of enhancing significantly the beauty and under valued importance of African culture to the modern world. Her bevy of unselfish contributions to art enhancement, provides a release from the modern day shackles of the often benign neglect of the timeless importance of African culture to human development and world peace.
El lenguaje musical no tiene idioma ni fronteras, la belleza inspiradora del amor a través de la música es infinito! Felicitaciones que música tan hermosa !
Commenting from Canada: I love her music plus I love how she dresses...Sona's outfits appear to be uniquely handmade and they complement her natural beauty very nicely
This initiative is well rooted and it is ready to emancipate the Gambian community. I can't wait to visit it soon it is completed. How do we donate money to assist an African achieve such a huge immense Vision. What can we do to make your dream come true?
Dear Sona, The more I wath your videos, and lissen to your music, the more I love you. You make me feel in paradise, as you are a beautiful person. Please keep on, and comme to France so that we'll be able to communicate our love to you. So many thanks Maurice Lanzoni .
Une grande, très grande, énorme artiste que je ne cesse d'écouter et de réécouter. Du maroc je salue cette docteur en musique qui a su promener l'âme de l'Afrique dans tous ses déplacements. Je rêve de la voir jouer au Maroc.Sonia on t'aime.
I wish i have the same talent. Same culture, same language, same amount of money, same country, and same age, and perfect everything... Just to marry her. ❤️ She is amazing Love from India 🇮🇳
Sona... you are a marvellous person, your music is awesome! Love it! May God bless you! I hope, that you have a concert here in Switzerland, soon Big hug from Zurique
I do respect her statement that she wants to be seen as a musician in the first place, and not as "one of the few women that plays Kora". And indeed a great musician she is. However, still hard to get around the fact that is she is a truly beautiful woman... OMG... ;-)
I hate to compare but I got to ask what our well-off and popular youthful Nigerian musicians are doing. Showing off their big houses and big cars online. Here is someone who has decided to live forever.
@Adeoflagos Ade, Throughout Africa, showing off and follow the West is the new Trend amount our Musicians. Our Culture is diying, cannot count the likes of Sona in that Industry in Africa as they're inexistant. Sona, I'm so proud of the work you're doing in Gambia, not just as an Ambassador of the culture also as a Humanatarian for all these Kids you're changing their future and those of the next generation to come by given them shelters and given them the confidence on their identity. GOD BLESS YOU and Stay Grounded MAMA AFRICA much love 🔥🔥🔥🔥❤❤❤❤
