Shout out to Joey Brown from Jay Pages BJJ for dropping in!! This is a video demonstrating one of my favorite throws that I stumbled on to about 3 years ago. I call it "The Special" but its really just a lateral drop with a collar tie and overhook locked together. Since doing this I have seen a guy do this on film but I don't know what its called. I'm sure high level Greco Roman guys are familiar. Check out the details and you are sure to find something useful! Enjoy! If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please comment below. More videos to come! Please like, share, and subscribe!!

As a former HS & College wrestler and now BJJ freak fan I absolutely LOVE the beautiful blend of both of my favorite sports! The synergy between the two is wonderful and symbiotic. So many great wrestling moves with slight techniqe tweeks make GREAT additions to BJJ arsenals. There is a very strong catch wrestling movement resurging and it's great. Great work.

I really love this channel. A lot of gems for jiu jitsu guys. I'm a white belt, but when I roll with even higher belts like blue and purple, their stand-up game isn't that good they can't even take me down and they just pull guard instead. Nothing to brag about, but shows how important it is to develop your stand-up game and do so early on. Thanks Coach!

Hold looks pretty great. I personally wouldn't want to try the throw on a bigger man without lots of practice. I see free knee shots, even high up, under their shoulder. Or to the body and wait for them to raise a leg to block, then fire that throw. But I'm no martial artist.

@asteriskcolon
@asteriskcolon 6 лет назад
Uki-waza is just the "forward" version of Tani Otoshi / Yoko Otoshi. The step-through is not a match to this technique The throw he demonstrates is closer to a Yoko Guruma than it is an Uki Waza. But yes, that plus the special grip.

I'm 70 years old. Blue belt. Wrestled in high school. Training Bjj for 4 years now. I have used this move successfully ever since I saw it on this channel. Taking down guys 1/3 my age. Has worked on blue belts, purple belts, and brown belts so far. It works. It also works from scrambles on your knees. In fact, I have used it from combat base (headquarters) more often than from stand up. Watch the video, pay attention, this is sweet.

Once I get this "special tie" up I either lateral drop to the trapped arm side or hit an uchi mata series the other way. I've tried it on about 20 guys some up to 50lbs heavier and have yet to find anyone who can stop it. Craaaazy effective technique - thank you 🙏I also finish w a transition to the trapped arm bar it's vicious

@ 6:20 Does your elbow take much of an impact when you throw them like that? I guess that's where it comes down to practice on a soft mat first. At 7:51 there is quite an indentation from your elbow after that throw. I wonder who would be worse off after a throw on a hard floor? Does hitting the elbow affect the ability to grip? Or is that just the inner forearm points?
@nateb4543

Sorry if its been covered, but i would love to see a series of submissions that would be an easy learn for someone with a wrestling background. The cowcatcher-neck crank is a perfect example. We're used to pinning people which doesn't do a lot of good if forced to defend ourselves.

I'm an older grappler, 40 years old now, but I'm able to hit this in my bjj class against younger and bigger guys. I've been holding on to that over-hook, throwing my legs over their body and lock the shoulder! Been working like a charm!

I don't understand how you ever get that lock. I feel like it just gives up position. I guess it work on a week underhook but anyone who knows how to underhood you never get the grip. Like you said it super easy to just peel the hand off the neck. I did 15 years of Greco and never saw it used.

Looks closer to a variation of a throw off the Russian Arm Tie more than a lateral once you start loading up your weight you are telescoping your intention and the natural defense would be to drop your hips at the right moment and re-throw your opponent... the Russian Tie variation does not include a collar tie and is as fast as an arm spin

Onne example off the deep arm from Kasa was executed in the Josh vs Dean fight . I also like the throw because it's a leverage base rather than power base. It's can be use against a strong opponent. Thanks Coach for sharing another unique illustration of grappling! Coach AL
