I never got much into this show but I remember the first thing I noticed was that for a team that's supposed to be one of the best in the state they sure find themselves down in the fourth quarter a lot.

There's a reason why 1-2 losses can knock a team out of the playoffs completely, the competition is strong in Texas. Hell in NC where I live you can go 4-7 and make the playoffs so I imagine the competition has to be otherworldly in Texas.

Lol I agree. There was a funny post a long time ago where someone nominated Eric Taylor as the worst coach ever with the following reasons. His teams are always losing at halftime and rely on stirring locker room speeches and miraculous hail mary plays to pull out come from behind wins every week. His former star QB is suing him for damages over his career ending injury. His new QB is dating his daughter behind his back. His FB is an alcoholic and struggling to stay academically eligible. His star RB is taking steroids. His defensive captain is arrested for assaulting a fellow student. And this was all in season 1. Lol

Honestly in Texas almost every game of the season will be close like that. Unless they have a powerhouse but a reason why Texas and Ohio and Florida are strong for College recruits because everybody is damn good...

To me, a flash back to Woody Hayes and Clemson!What’s even funnier than this instant replay. I was Woody’s newspaper boy , back in the day, in Upper Arlington, OH. Knowing Woody’s volatility , we, other newsboys, used to prank his house constantly. We never got a response cause he was always at the players dorm probably bouncing boys off of the walls. The cherry on the top of the proverbial sundae. Ann Hayes, Woody’s wife was nothing but calm and nice. She would always tip me 50 cents a week. That was good for 2 hot fudge sundaes at McKinnley Pharmacy at Lane Center. Great post! 👍👋🎯💉🍀🇺🇸

I loved the strategy between the coaches and Coach Taylor‘s gotcha gotcha!!!!! But I gotta tell you, when I first saw this I just stared dumbfounded and as I watched the opposing coach snap. Great analogy to other things that maybe happened on the field or in practice in real life when coaches just go bananas. What great television this is.

I don't agree with what Dickies did, but I guess to an extent I feel for him given the circumstances. Any coach ever did that, he would NEVER coach a game again. Riggins absolutely owned this game.

@@traviskarnes6825 Exactly! Yes, legally, that was an act of assaulting a minor (yes, even though the actors are clearly adults, the characters are supposed to be minors. Including Riggins, who is in his junior year and hasn't turned 18 yet). And no, waivers don't cover that, because waivers only apply to people involved with the on-field play in the context of the game setting (it's the same reason why a fan does not have a free pass to run onto the field and punch a player and avoid assault charges. Same goes for the coaches, who are not allowed on the field during a play, which means that if one runs onto the field unprompted and strikes a player, that is legally not an act covered by their coaching duties and is legally an assault)! So yes, thank you for mentioning that that was not only illegal in football, but illegal according to *city, state, and federal law,* and that that act could potentially result in jail time (let alone the football consequences)! Good catch!

Life: It's all about perspective. Dealing with a terminally ill loved one can make even the simplest decisions seem like Mt. Everest. Unless you've been in those shoes dont be to quick to judge. I can guarantee you that every second hes away from his wife he's thinking of the next memory they can make together. This appears to be the "rage" stage of grief and it can and will explode just like that. R.I.P. Chrissy. We only had 3 years of marriage, but you gave me an eternity of love and a son with your beautiful blue eyes. Until we meet again.

Well that's one way to end a season for somebody. I understand that coach was going through a lot but when he enters the field and tackles the guy running the ball into the end zone that pretty well ends his career whether it's in television or in reality

Everything leading up to the revelation about Dickies personal life had you completely hating his guts. But this scene shows that everyone has a story behind them. And it kinda explains why he was so nonchalant about what he players were doing off the field. The pranks in the lockeroom, the lunchroom fight, etc. Maybe I'm just reading too much into it, but it seems like Dickies was in the mindset of "life's too short to sweat the small stuff". And as a result, he gave his players more leniency.

I'm not sure if I will ever bother to completely watch this series, but the movie is one of the best sports films of all-time in my opinion. Billy Bob Thornton nailed his role as the coach, and Explosion in the Sky's additions to the music score were incredible.

My mom watched/loved this show. Said it reminded her when I played. Not all the crazy drama. But the football scenes and how a small town every Friday night came out. I ended up choosing baseball to play in college. But man I loved football! But 6ft 180# football just not in my cards lol

I lost my wife to familial ALS (hereditary) in July 2019. I saw her slowly die for 2years 8months 2days. All my anger and stress went to the disease itself. Yes it was wrong for the coach to tackle the player. The last few days of her life wear unbearable. I was in the next room when she died. I still had that memory. At least this coach had a time frame. I was married for 15 years and she died at the age of 49.
