Josh McDaniels took a playoff caliber team and dropped them to 6-11. Terrible system, terrible HC. I don't ever want anyone to say Derek Carr was the *sole* problem ever again.

We was a playoff team with our head coach getting blackballed out of the league our #1 wr killing someone and ruining his life and numerous injuries. Who cares other teams had hurt players? That was a different era. There wasnt the salary cap, and the motivations were different. There are too many distractions, social media and "individual" brand building. I will say a team that captured motivation and sheer grit was the Lions - they played for pride - and beat Green Bay - and RAIDERS need to fight FOR each other. That was kind of missing this year, but was apparent in 2021.
That was when the Oakland Raiders had a hall of fame front office, owner, coach and players. The current organization has none of that. McNuggets will never be in the HOF. Everyone knows he got his rings because Belichick and Brady. His stint as HC shows he doesn’t belong with the best of the best.

Most importantly, that was when good coaches knew that a solid offensive line (run and pass blocking) and a killer defense were the key to long-term success. Now, everyone is so focused on drafting the next Mahomes, as if that's a real possibility. You will not find someone to go toe to toe with Mahomes. That is a ridiculous notion that too many Raiders fan cling to. Tom Brady has had a top ten defense for 18 of his 23 (?) years in the league and Mahomes for 3 out of his 5 years. They are both elite QB's, but dynasties are built on defense 1st, offensive line 2nd, and QB somewhere after that.
@@Mercenarymn Good teams beat that are struggling. Every win is a hard fought victory, but good teams beat teams that are worse than them. We did that last year, no excuses for losses and no excuses for wins. Raiders historically find ways to play down to their opponents level and keep them in the game. Last year, we found ways to win, this year, we found ways to lose. That is a HUGE difference.
Our Team with through so much last year. Losing HC, our go to receiver, Waller was injured majority of the year but our team kept fighting, locker room was positive and made it to the playoffs. Now we have more weapons and with this coach morale looks horrible, play calling was bad. This is a horrible coach

Also note that the Raiders are not in the top 1/2 of 3 and outs in the NFL but they are near last in defensive turnovers. Also the team as a whole had very few turnovers comparatively across the league. This team has a defense problem. Not an offense problem. DA17 would not have broken records if the QB play was trash.
In a year where the team re-signed all their weapons, Maxx at DE, and upgraded the other DE. Then added Adams. Plus off a team that won 10 games and pushed the Bengals in playoffs, too. LMAO, instead of "win now" they were in "evaluation and trying to learn to win" mode.

He can be disappointed I understand why he would be however at the same time it shouldn't be a surprise. I mean for starters he moves the team to a tourist area and a whole new state and has to try and build a fanbase there. Most of the anger about our team losing is directed at the players and coaches and they deserve blame, but who hired these people in the first place ? Until the Raiders have an owner who can hire a good HC and GM, this rinse and repeat cycle every couple of years will continue and we all know it.

If the goal or expectation (which he didn't even address) was hanging on and being bad at defense but not totally falling off a cliff, they failed at that. One thing I'm hearing with Josh is when the word "pressure" comes up toward him and expectations, he evades it as much as he can.

Carr threw an interception to end the Cincinnati Wild card game and an interception on his final play as a Raider vs Steelers. END OF STORY he was 63-79 .they are going in another direction - he'll have the full compliment of draft choices - they know they are up against it in 2023.

It won't be easy to get back to glory with this guy at the helm. The GM is going to have to the nail the draft, something that hasn't happened here in many, many, many years and something that I don't know if he's qualified to do.

Derek Carr hasn't been a top 10/15 QB in like 5 years . Stop it. Look around the league how quickly young QBs are turning franchises around. Mahomes, burrow, Herbert, hurts, tua, Lawrence, etc. There's absolutely no way this front office could justify bringing Derek Carr back and try to sell the fans that they are trying to win. He's never won, and he probably never will. DC should've been gone years ago.

Whether McDaniels pans out (not looking good so far, this team looked horribly coached all season) moving on from Carr was the right decision for him and the team. He deserves to be on a contender and this team has too many holes to be paying him a top end contract. Too many holes to fill due to poor GM and coaching selections for 30+ years leaving this team in constant Flux.
You nailed it. He so many open receivers underthrown, overthrown, not thrown to. There were games in which Davante was being run as a ghost. not worth 40M. My sense is that his career was inalterably hurt when he hurt his back those years ago. He has his moments. But way too inconsistent to be an elite qb. good luck to him. Better luck to the Raiders.

He also beat Pittsburgh on the first play in OT (Tim Tebow to Demariyus Thomas). He'll have a better QB that understands the system and full compliment of draft picks.
