Marcelito makes it easy because he can. He is a singing angel on earth. For me, this is his absolute masterpiece, something of crystal clear sung, the bright madness. I can't really think of a second person who can do it better.
This guy is a self-taught singer. What is even more impressive is that he was able to accomplish this plus having won the grandchampionship of a reality singing contest in the Phil. given his simple and humble background. Please try to learn something about the man, his family, childhood and teen years, and you will be more amazed at the talent MP was born with. Imagine what he could accomplish if he had a voice coach right from the start like Dimas Kudaibergen. As to the weird accent, many Filipinos commonly use only 3 vowels in their daily conversation (a, i and u) that lends a distinct accent to each local language (dialect), and this peculiar accent is carried over when they speak in English. MP was mimicking both Celine and Andrea Bocelli in this cover. And Andrea Bocelli being an Italian, MP was also imitating the slurred r's as in amore, esperanza, etc and in the way Andrea would pronounce English words.
I just discovered Marcelito on America's Got Talent Champions a couple of days ago. Had to find more about him on RU-vid. After hearing him sing, I've become fascinated with all the various vocal coaches reactions to his performances. Yours is priceless. Love your appreciation for his talent, love your responses, and particularly love your reactive smile. It speaks volumes.
Marcelito Pomoy did not have a happy childhood family life and left home when he was still in grade 3 walking the streets of Manila at the tender age, fending for his daily meal doing odd jobs. He worked as a seller of boiled duck eggs, a favourite delicacy in the Philippines. He was a construction site helper, he did the cleaning of the huge chicken cages in chicken farms from where he realised he could really sing while Cleaning the chicken cages, he admitted so himself that jokingly he would reply to every news reporter asking him if there were truths in his claim that Marcelito Pomoy's very first audiences where the clucking chickens transferred to other cages while he had to high water pressure the empty cages while belting his favourite songs he learnt by immitation. His favourite lady singer is Celine Dion and he would follow her pronounciation and that's where he honed on the soprano voice of Celine Dion. He became fascinated with music and immitated artists' English songs and also Filipino songs by following what he heard while doing any work he could get himself employed in. Thru so many years of self teaching practice with NO FORMAL VOICE AND DICTION COACHING, he gained confidence in his ability to sing both male and female voices. His circle of friends at work and where he stayed encouraged him to join a popular televised singing contest in the Philippines which he won hands down with the judges and spectators jaws dropping in awe watching him sing live before millions of Filipinos nationwide. I'm sure other audiences watching in their own TV sets nationwide had their jaws dropping in awe at Marcelitos ability to sing both male and female voices. And the rest is history. You have to forgive him for some words he may have mispronounced in the course of his singing, HE IS STILL ONLY A GRADE 3 EDUCATED STUDENT BUT IS NOW WORTH A FEW MILLION PESOS IN PHILIPPINE CURRENCY, AND YES HE ONLY FINISHED GRADE 3 IN GRADE SCHOOL IN THE PHILIPPINES.
Marcelito Pomoy always needs a translator with him if any foreign journalists or fans would like to engage in a friendly conversation with him. He is fluent in speaking his native tagalog language but is always struggling to understand you when you attempt to engage a conversation with him in English. His various singing invitations overseas, i.e. Canada where he held his first overseas concert together with other Filipino artists', Dubai and other singing engagements with the Philippines TV networks gave him the opportunity to buy his own house and eventually getting married to his love. Before he won the singing contest, he was not attractive to other girls because he was only a daily wage earner. I will leave the next chapter to marcelito Pomoy to show to the world his humbleness, cheerful attitude and respect for his fellow human beings are infectious like to an overwhelming majority of Filipinos in how we treat others irrespective of nationality and religion.
Marcelito never left home. His mother abandoned him at age 3. His father was serving life in prison. Marcelito went to live in prison with his father until a family took him into their home. A home he left at age 7. Age 7 is when he lived on the streets and started singing. He learned to sing both male and female voices at age 18.
I don't know why people hate reactors that actually listen to the performer. Reactors that actually pause the video will be able to listen to the entire performance instead of missing those parts where they were talking instead of listening. And isn't this what reactions should be instead of just watching. I'm no expert in music so I would not know if all he say is accurate but I love reactions like this. I'm a Filipino too but I hate it more when people just shower praises looking more like they want you to subscribe instead of genuinely reacting. I don't mind the pauses. Keep them be if needed.
I stopped pausing in my later vids, but instead I type the time of the parts I want to talk about, then talk about them at the end :) That way I don't miss anything, but in reaction and analysis :) Thank you for the support
The most realistic voice reactor/coach/voice analyst I've ever watched. New subscriber here keep it up sir god blesses you always. Love watching your reaction video's.
Everybody should know that he only reached 3rd grade, but nobody can't deny that he is very talented! This is raw talent and he had no formal training!
WOW! BTW two italian reactors commented that his Pronounciason or diction is much better than Bocelli....Marcelito he deserves the best after he had a tough and sad childhood and grew up in poverty!I wish him tzhe best!
He is brilliant in vocal control, a duet alone, can go from highest to lowest in one 1/2 breath its insane. not only that but controlling two different languages, no formal training, taught himself as an orphan from 7yrs old ..Effortless...Heavenly truly..Thanks for reaction, Peace
It would help if you can see the original version...Marcellito's not only trying to copy celine , hes also trying to copy andrea boccelli, if you listened to how boccelli sang and pronounced his lines, youll know why marcellito is also pronouncing the words in such a manner.
as a music teacher myself, I notice that his 'male' falsetto is different than his 'female' voice... thank you for your reaction! there is a reaction to this video done by two Italian ladies, and they agree that Pomoy's Italian is very good...
I think I've watched Pomoy sing this song a hundred times, and watched as many "reaction" videos. I really enjoyed your comments. You even got the pitchy bits :)
This man was raised in poverty basically and was self taught. Due to a contest he won, this is how he became so well loved and respected. As English isn't his first language u can u where it can cause problems. Can't fault him for that.
your comments is spot on sir, for the male part he’s doing, he’s imitating andrea bocelli which is an italian that is why there’s a distinct pronunciation, new subscriber here from the philipppines
I actually prefer a reactor that pauses/goes back rather than talks over the video and missing a few good points (applicable to any kind of reaction). Someone who takes notes and discusses it afterwards. Is it too much in this one? Maybe. But I still prefer it over someone who wasn't paying attention. Nice work.
for someone who had no formal training, this man is absolutely phenomenal.. thumbs up to your criticisms and reactions... thats just showing you are genuinely paying attention to every note...
Great reaction to a great performance from Marcelito. Smart and informative, without being obnoxious. After Dimash and Marcelito, I think one of the best, and most common, performances to react to, is Disturbed's surprising, and epic, cover of The Sound of Silence (Video or Live on Conan). One of the greatest cover arrangements/performances of a classic in modern music IMO. Unexpected, pure and powerful.
Yeah right, his pronunciation is not perfect but that's because he is a Filipino & his mother tongue is not english. Moreover, he didn't study well due to poverty & broken family, he lived with his own life just until he won PGT & got a break. So, for a self coaching person like himself, that is for me a far better than the word brilliant!
Well, his pronunciation in English is being noticed, how about his pronunciation in Italian? You cannot correct one way of singing the words, same way that nobody cares to criticize how Jamaicans sing the words, can hardly even understand the whole song. . =P =P =P Or have you heard Bocelli sing in English? It's style man . .
No, it's not because of that. Clearly it's because he is only a third grader, so expect that his english is not good. But with his passion to music, he could sing better than some of international singers.
Pilipino to Filipino Place sounds like plays Nurse in english Nars in Filipino Teacher titser So because our government is lazy enhancing the Filipino language they decided to borrow language and made it our own :D
If u guys want to watch a full cover of this,by Marcelito then go toWish channel not in reaction or analysis video..!!! All reactors have deferent way.. simple as that!!
For someone who isn’t professionally trained, he is superb. He grew up homeless on the streets from 7 yrs old for 17 years, so his voice is God given. He discovered he could do both soprano and tenor at age 18, so all things considered, he is absolutely better than some who have studied for years. It is his God given gift and one just waiting for the right management to take him to the stars where he belongs.
nice reaction and analysis ❤ some people complain that you.pause too much, as if this is the first time they hear and see this video 😂 if the people want to see the full video, then they have to see full without someone reacting to it. I like he way you do the analysis, let the people complain, Im here to see a reaction and the analysis, sure they saw this video a hundred times already 😂😜
I like it when you’re pausing the vid then saying your thoughts or expressing your reaction. It’s like detail by detail you give your reaction. So, just keep it up👍
This is all about the voice and how he sings and not about pronunciation. Note that English is not his first language and it's just natural for him to have a different accent. If every little inch of pronunciation will be criticized you will never enjoy the song and his voice.
he is bisaya, another dialect here in the philippines, that's why he can't correct his pronunciation, but the italian words, he nailed it ! thanks for your reaction sir ! 😊 i know that nobody's perfect.
I maybe doing reaction to those reacting to this artist. I think you are the best one. 1) Good that u are using headphone coz I hate when someone is not using a ear/head phone. 2) your explanations were very technical 3) I like when you pause and expressed your take on the instance 4) you are familiar with the song you are reacting. 5) although you displayed much less emotions, getting a bit emotion from a person who is talented and have heard so much talent is more than enough. This is really a very educational reaction. Thank you
FUN FACT: Sometime in the 80s, there had been many, and I mean throughout the Philippines, town held contests on the theme of "Doble Kara" (meaning double face). Men, or gay, would wear on one side of their body (let's say the right side) a gown, while on the other side, a tuxedo. Then, to that, singing both the man and woman's part in a song, with that side of the body facing the audience. Like if he shows you the side wearing the gown, he sings the woman's part in the song. Because of poverty, these contests are taken seriously. And I think that is why Filipinos grew up singing Whitney Houston songs - - 'coz nobody dares enter a contest without eating that and spitting it good. 😎
He is also doing the accent of the male which I think is Italian that's why the "place" and the other male words are pronounced differently. If you noticed, he also rolles his R on the male voice.
i noticed you're not watching it on the official wish 107.5 channel. nothing wrong with it really but it takes views away from marcelito on the wish channel. wish 107.5 is doing a really great job at promoting and giving exposure to our local filipino talents, not a bad idea to support their channel. kudos to a very nice reaction. i'm sure a lot of us are just realizing now the talent and technical expertise involved in order to sing that well. proud of our filipino singers! thanks! :)
All the standard rules in singing was there.. i know.. great job.. you have a really good ear.. the transition of voice was crazy because its both different vocal placement..
"Lead us to a place. The 'place' here pronunced it like 'plese' and "To a plce whre we'll be safe. Again 'we'll' pronounced it like 'well'. Marcelito comes from the south of the Philippines and and like other from that area, pronounce 'i' as 'e'. If Filipinos in general could speak (pronounce) English correctly as they sing correctly well, they'd be lovely.
Sir, your video is definitely not for a first time viewer of Marcelito Pomoy. Every single detail you've pointed out has not been mentioned by others. Kudos!
😊 wow thank you. I purposely didn't watch other reaction videos so that my mind could be fresh and try my own way. Oh I prob watched like 30 seconds of one.
RnB Singing Lessons do more of this sir. Good luck with your channel, btw don't mind those "stop pausing too much". We liked seing your reactions and hearing your criticisms.
In all jokes and my perveness aside, your reaction is really genuine you know? It's probably the most genuine thing I've ever seen for days. 🤔 More power to you dude.
One of te best reactions that I've viewed! VERY OBJECTIVE reaction! I'm a Filipina too and I understand very well about your comments on his English pronounciation. We are from the Visayan region and when speaking English we tend to exchange the "e" sound to that of an "i". That's something cultural I guess...
YES! He's not using falsetto for all the high notes, he just has a crazy range. I loved that you pointed that out, there are many "vocal coaches" who just say, "amazing how he can change his voice like that, like from male to female, that's hard! I should know, I'm a vocal coach!", they just jumped in on the wagon, lol.
yeah when I heard more of his stuff, it's clear that his pulls his chest range right up there - I have heard other singers do that (few) so I know it's possible - also the tone of the notes gives it away. But sometimes you have to hear more of the artist to tell the differences :) Thanks for the support man
