Ronaldo was truly very composed on the field. As you observed correctly, the defenders fouled and tackled him quite harshly, but he never really got angry about it. In fact, you can see him chatting friendly with the defenders (and as I've heard, that was a 200 IQ-move, too, to distract them or find spaces). He made the life of defenders really harsh though. Cannavaro, one of Italy's biggest defenders probably put it best: 》More than anyone I faced before him, and anyone I faced after him, Ronaldo was always, always, the one player who stirred fear in me. He is the player of our generation. The phenomenon. The Ronaldo. The first time I played against Ronaldo was in a Brazil-Italy friendly in France before the 1998 World Cup. Even just walking onto the same pitch as him terrified me. We drew that match 3-3, and afterward I had a meeting with our coach, Cesare Maldini. “Fabio, you know, a lot of people talk about how incredible Ronaldo is, how he is a very, very good player.” I just nodded as he continued. “And I can say, after watching him play against you, that yes, Ronaldo, is very, very good.” Classic Maldini. “Thanks, Coach.” Ronaldo was a player who you didn’t necessarily defend, but instead you hoped to limit and contain as much as you could. Because if Ronaldo wanted to score, he would score. Of course, Brazil also had Romário, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldinho. But, Ronaldo? He was just … different. He was fast. He was strong. He was unbelievable. And every time I played him there was always respect. A player like him didn’t need to trash talk, and there was no point in trying to get inside his head. He was already in yours before the whistle even blew. I don’t think that the fear I had of him ever went away. But out of that fear came respect. And the way you respect a player like Ronaldo is to train, every day, as hard as you can. When I showed up to the pitch, I knew I put all the time I could. Was I scared? Sure. But you respect the game and the player by not letting it show on the field. Through Ronaldo, I learned how to handle fear on the pitch.《 His attitude towards his teammates seems to have been great, too. There's a game which tells a lot : There was a young new Brazilian player named Pato when he was already very overweight and had busted his knees already twice at AC Milan; he basically spent a good chunk of Pato's first game trying to get Pato on the score sheet by passing the ball to him all the time. (There's also another story off the field; a player talked about how he completely busted his first game (scored an own goal, got red-carded) and how Ronaldo came to said player to check up on him and encourage him. Also yes, he likely belongs to the fastest players ever, even overweight and with both knees busted one of his runs was timed at 36 km/h.

When I was a kid (late 90s) Ronaldo was known as the best player in the world. His speed, ball control and dribbling was just next level. He had a great career playing for teams like Barcelona, Internazionale and Real Madrid. Unfortunately he always had a lot of problems with injuries, he was always very injury prone. So his career could have been even more amazing if only he had been healthier. Regardless, he remains as one of the most legendary strikers ever. Ronaldo's career is one of a kind. He was a physical monster in his early career and his peak of his career was when he was 20. He suffered one of the worst injuries in football history and he hasn't played football in 3 years, gained a lot of weight and doctors told him he probably would never play again. He then came back in 2002 after 3 years without playing and won Brazil the world cup with 8 goals in 7 games and scoring twice in the final against Germany. After that world cup he proven to the entire world that he's one of the best ever. Without his injuries he might as well be the goat. He scored over 200 goals by the time of his major injury, Ronaldo and Messi barely scored half when they where at his age. You definitely need to watch some mini documentaries about him. It's just the perfect football story

Thanks for your good reaction videos. Congratz, you have found the most talented footballer of all time. You noticed very well that he was allround, he is the only player who could do everything. Sadly you did watch him fall to the ground. That was one of his 2 major injury's in a row whitch destroyed him. But he could still run 21.13MPH whitch is insane because at 100% he was much faster than that. (They called him fat and slow.) So at 100% he was clearly much faster than any other player and on short distance (Both start and top speed.) he was almost as fast as Usain Bolt. But like i said before, he could do anything. And even when he came back in 2002 after almost 2 years out of football he was at 65% still the best. (In the WorldCup where legends like Ronaldinho and Zidane who where at 100%.) He is the idol of both Ibrahimovic and Ronaldinho. And everyone from his era says he is the most talented player of all time. The "phenomenon" nickname (fenomeno in portuguese) i think dates back to when he used to play in Italy. One comentator was describing one of Ronaldo's highlights during the match and called him phenomenom because just a like hurricane, a volcano eruption, a storm, a tsunami or any force of nature, he was unstoppable. In 2002 he had already been elected the best player of the world three times and went through 8 serious knee surgeries, but still scored 8 times at the World Cup (twice in the final when Brazil defeat Germany 2-0). Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima is considered the best striker and one of the best footballer and the most complete footballer to ever grace the field of football. At just age of 21 he received the 1997 Ballon d'Or, and he remains the youngest recipient of the award. He has won 2 FIFA world cups and finished 2nd in one occasion with his national team of Brazil, which is the most prestigious award to exist in football. R9 snapped both his patella tendons at 23. His tendons patella ended up on his thigh. This was the late 90s - they did somewhat experimental operations. It was far from clear that he would ever play again. He couldn't even bend his knee beyond about 50 degrees initially after the operation. He made it back after two years of rehab. In 2002, after going through that injury he went to the world cup with Brazil and was the top scorer in the tournament, scoring two in the final against Germany. Brazil lifted the trophy and R9 completed the greatest comeback in the history of football. He was only 70% of the player he previously was but that was still enough to make him the best striker in the world for a few more years. The pre-injury Ronaldo is by far the best striker the world has ever seen. He was by far the fastest, the best finisher, built like a bull and was literally the most skilful player in the world. It just made no sense that one player could be so good on every metric - guys that size and power are rarely so technical - never mind the most technical in the world. I've watched football all my life, played in academies and professional reserve teams - when I watch R9 to this day he blows my mind - just an absolutely immense player - beyond anything we've ever seen.

The problem was that he suffered 2 serious injuries, shown in the video, that affected his career a lot, if it was not for that, he would be considered the best ever, by a large margin. The fact that he is still considered the best ever after his 2 injuries by a lot of people just shows u his alien potential. He is also the greatest idol of a lot of players, like Cristiano and Zlatan.

Il Phenomeno. Perhaps the most complete center ever. Not only lightning fast and insanely skillful, but also creally clever and his placement is top notch. Really unlucky with severe knee injuries though. And a much better passer and teamplayer than people says. Everyone was scared of him. Unplayable at his peak. And one of the most exciting player i have ever seen. To see him in full sprint with the ball glued to his feets and change direction on a dime is just "Gaahhh" Here is a short snippet of the french national team speaking about Ronaldo before the world cup final 1998. France won the final (Ronaldo was out because of sickness) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EUaDKtMawww.html Keep it up!

Fun fact, after he came back from his knee injury for the 2002 World Cup, he was boasting that dreadful (now iconic) hairstyle as a distraction to keep media less focused on questioning his physical capabilities, injuries and such. Apparently it worked, seeing the results

In Ronaldo's day football was a contact sport, so he was fouled - kicked, pushed, shirt pulled. He had pace, power, resilience & skill; the complete player. The most important thing he brought to a team is that he could make something out of nothing. You give the ball to him in a situation where nothing is happening and he would do something on his own and get you a goal without the need for the rest of his team to contribute and when the opposition were in ascendency (in football we call this 'against the run of play'), that is a very unique quality, the ability to turn the match on it's head, when his team were 'backs against the wall time' he pulled it out of a hat, it's not easy to make hay when the sun's not shining. That's what made him one of the best ever...

He had 2 severe knee injuries (one right after the other) that kept him away from football for a very long time. I remember I cried for him. It was so unfair... But he recovered. Then he got fat because of thyroid problems. But even with overweight, he scored 25 goals a year with Real Madrid.

R9 is football. Zidane a God of football feels R9 is the best player ever. In short what R9 can do on a pitch one can't even do on a video game. It's not just creativity, determination and fighting adversity. He was just simply the best complete forward in the game. Blessed to have been able to watch him play. I will die happy for this one day. Watch closely, and I think you caught this in your reaction but didn't speak of it... He slows down after he beats the last opponents before he taps it in the net. It's the true Brazilian style don't just beat em, let them know they never had a chance.

One curiosity about R9, is that in the final stages of his carreer he got really fat, so he obviously didnt have the explosion of speed he had before, but he still was a regular on his team (Corinthians) just because hes so smart when it comes to positioning and timing, since he didnt have the speed he needed to make due with his conditioning, he touched the ball a lot less but he was REALLY efficient, like, only touched in the ball about 2 or 3 times in one attack, and was enough for him to avoid a defender and make a goal, or avoid a defender and make an assist for a teammate. Even overweight, two or three ball touches, that was all Ronaldo needed to be a regular in one of the best clubs in the Brazillian A League, he was THAT good

He got hurt badly in 1999/2000. A severe knee injury, which made many think that he was not going to be able to walk. He was not only able to walk, but he came back to the pitches, and scored 8 goals in the 2002 World Cup, leading Brazil to its 5th title. In 2006 he scored his 15th World Cup goal, a record only broken by Miroslav Klose in 2014. Ronaldo is an idol of many players such as Ibrahimovic, Rooney, Messi and others. According to Zinedine Zidane he was the best that he has played with. A true legend!

Not only could Ronaldo go through defenders with ease, he’d leave them humiliated! To answer your question on “what happened” is because he was such an explosive player, his knees couldn’t keep up with him. He was questioned whether or not he could perform in the 2002 World Cup. Not only did he prove them wrong, but he scored the decisive 2 goals in the final to win the cup. He was along with Ronaldinho very humble players and almost zero haters. Rival fans would even praise both of them if they lost the match

Ah you finally commented to in what my opinion, is the greatest player of the sport ever, he played for Brazil in the same team as Ronaldinho. Imagine going up against those 2 on the same team. Unfortunately he was plagued with horrible knee injuries, his first injury they thought his career was over but he did make a successful comeback. It did shorten his career in the end.

Would’ve probably been the best ever had he not been too explosive for his own body. Similar to Ronaldinho in the sense that they shined very very brightly but for short periods of time in reference to a whole soccer career. He for sure had his time partying as well and that contributed to his husky figure later on lol
