This was something I've been wanting to do for a while. I finally had a fire with some decent coals so I thought I'd take advantage of them and do this little project. It was 16 degrees that morning, that's why I'm wearing the gloves...and had a fire going.

You can definitely make one of these! All you need is a piece of wood, some coals, and lots of breath, haha! Thanks for watching!

that's really kool Dale, can't remember if I've seen that process before? good wood, hot fire, lots of breath & patients, over 100 years ago, the average person made everything they owned & used, it's always great to see others make things with their hands & heart, you need a bigger bowl for all those arrowheads that's going to be in your path

Brooksy's Nomadic Adventures I enjoy making things like this. It's fun working with wood and watching it transform. There's just an added sense of accomplishment turning a chunk of wood into a useful tool. Thanks for stopping by my friend, I appreciate you checking it out!

That is too cool! you make great videos and have some real useful / functional demos..... i mean not as practical as what happens if an egg is shot with an arrow, but still - some awesome stuff :) Thanks for a look and keep up the stellar work my friend!

Hopewellmj Only if you hadn't set the bar so high...I mean, it's hard to beat the practicalness of an egg getting shot, haha! Seriously though, keep shooting things and drawing stuff. Take care Bud

You should change the video title to: "How to take the temper out of the tip of your knife blade"

Prepared Survivalist I was wondering if anybody was gonna bring that up. That's exactly why I used my cheap pocket knife and not any of my nice knives. Thanks for watching!

I bet that smelt so good, I was trying to do this today with pine, we don't have any mesquite up here in canada, I may try it with birch or poplar, takes a long time though. What did you finish the wood with?

hi and thanks for sharing . I tried this technic once but the fibres started to crack ... any advices please ? bye
@OntheTrailwithDale
@OntheTrailwithDale 7 лет назад
Pagan Woodscraft Use wood that is dry and seasoned. A fresh cut piece of wood still has a lot of moisture in it and it will crack from the heat of the coals. Thanks for watching!

Wow looks great! That blackened inside looks so good! Did you seal the whole bowl with a finish? keep up the great work!

Colin Knockaert I just put a coat of oil on it for now, I'm still debating if I want to put a clear coat on it or leave it natural. And you're right, the charred inside of the bowl looks really cool. Thanks for watching!!
