Former aircraft fueler here. I just want to make sure people know when the Coast Guard said they would arrive back with about 8 pounds of fuel left... Jet A, which is what they were being fueled with in the start, weighs about 6.5-6.99 pounds per gallon... so if the pilots calculations were accurate, they landed with just over a gallon of fuel left in the tank..... Absolutely amazing.
@@billabong9215 yes they did Jayhawks hold 6500 lbs of jp-5. 800 is considered low. 8 lbs is just silly they would’ve turned around immediately if they knew they were gonna land with a few hundred in best case scenario
Jet A is a little bit lighter than diesel fuel. Former long haul trucker. Had to calculate the weight of fuel on long runs at times to make sure we weren't overweight.
Hearing the crew start cheering when told their crewmate is going to be okay actually makes me tear up. It just shows the massive comradery there is amongst the crew
Pretty experienced? Lol. These dudes are beyond experienced. They're experts and professionals. The government doesn't let "pretty experienced" people fly multimillion dollar helicopters in rescue scenarios.
was kinda funny that Rip said "it's not like...call 'em, we'll drop a guy." then is totally amazed when the Coast Guard shows up and does EXACTLY that. Coast Guard rescues look awesome on video, but i bet it's a whole other level to see them do it right in front of you

The most dangerous part of the rescue starts at 7:23 Watch how the rescue swimmer expertly handles the jerking motion of the hoist being reeled in while not losing control of the stretcher. I was close to losing the fingers of my right hand while on a helo ops exercise at night. The operator was a trainee and he jerked the hoist in a way the lead poly line twisted around my glove and pulled my hand towards the helo. Fortunately the glove slipped out of my hand. Later on that night the helo Commander phoned the Duty Room and spoke to me. He asked if I was allright, because they were looking for my fingers inside the glove! This is very dangerous work and watching the video gave me chills. I am *still* part of that. Indeed.
This is definitely above and beyond the call of duty. And definitely serious. Another job putting lives on line. And dead of night. To all involved a huge kudos. Hopefully he recover soon 🙏
This is absolutely one of the most unbelievable rescues I've ever seen. Unreal. The patience and teamwork from the captain and his crew and of course the Coast Guard for their bravery. Wow. Just incredible. Much respect to all for getting this dude the help he needed.
There's actually a free show here on YT that shows just these guys rescues in AK and the pucker factor on some are off the charts, this is up there for sure. One they were rescuing a dude from a cliff and were getting down gusts of 100 mph winds that the helicopter wasn't powerful enough to overcome, crazy stuff.
Where was he working out of. I have a few Guard buddies and they have the easiest gig ever ticketing drunk boaters. My bud Dennis went from Army to Sheriff to the Guard as a pilot and he loved it. Alot of drug intercepts.
21 years as a paratrooper. These Coast Guard rescue crews are the bomb- everyone. PIC’s, co-pilots, crew chiefs, maintainers and especially the rescue swimmers are beauties! DOL/RLTW!

My mouth was on the floor for the 9:56 this rescue footage was playing. The men of the coast guard have the heaviest balls of steel on the planet. This is stunning footage!
I could only imagine, how many years and thousands of hours of training, it would take to pull something like this off. Absolutely incredible. Nothing but respect and amazement for everyone involved.
I saw this when it was first on and couldn't believe it. Those rescue guys are tough as nails! My god, I was on the edge of my chair and almost had a heart attack! I have no words to describe my respect for them!
Rip shouldn’t be a captain. He had Todd pass away by getting crushed between pots and then one of their first few trips back out he lets the exact same thing happen again to Francis. You could see how much the stack was shifting, he should have noticed it right away and sent a crew member to tighten it down. Safety is number 1 and it seems like this guy is constantly neglecting that
My jaw was on the floor the whole time during that rescue. Incredible care and guts by the coast guard. Praying for the deckhand for a full recovery. Terrible ordeal that everyone went through. The salute from the rescue crewman was the best. God bless you all🙏🙏

@@achysafe1255 i’m talking about when the weather is so bad. ofc they can anywhere the fisherman can go, but they can only attempt an evac if the weather is decent enough. the guys fish thru weather that the coast guard wouldn’t even dream of going into
My childhood friend, Nate Bruckenthal, was a Coastie KIA overseas... You don't think about losing Coasties because it's uncommon but their work is SERIOUS. ❤
I suffered a femur fracture and an open book pelvic fracture on the job trying to cut a larger opening on a single wide house trailer to get a 780 pound man out who hadn’t moved from his bed in 4 1/2 years. Me and 2 other guys on my shift ended up under the part of the exterior wall we cut when the trailers frame fractured and shifted; all three of us ended up with multiple lower extremity fractures. I’ve had my share of fractures, and had 2 kids with zero pain meds, but that trip on medflight to the trauma center with my pelvic injury was nothing short of torture. I didn’t know pain like that was possible, even maxed out on pain meds. I couldn’t imagine being on rough seas like that for as long as he was with his injuries. Glad he came out of it all ok.

Navy Crew Chief here. Medevacs are the most challenging mission. You have to balance everything. The crew did an amazing job. Kudos to the swimmer for getting the guy on board in time.
Totally miraculous. And I'm so happy for the crewmen. And all the people on board that he recovered so well.❤ The American Coastguard is phenomenal as is. As here in Britain, both military based and voluntary. These guys and girls. Deserve every bit of help and thanks , we can give them god bless🎉❤
Being one of the most dangerous jobs in the world, something tells me the Coast Guard visits these fishing boats quite frequently. They're probably on a first name basis with the crew.
They do the safety inspections for any USA flagged vessels and you see it on a couple episodes that have been uploaded here. Wild bill turned the heater up during one to make them leave faster.

There are female rescue swimmers as well in the US coastguard, they get no special treatment and would not ask for any. Only about 5-6 females throughout the USA. Females lack upper body strength, but what they have can be trained to put the odds in their favour; alot of it is mental toughness and having the correct technique.
Its a close call in those conditions excellent lift by the coast guard water all over the deck on that trawler that went well as expected good outcome as well .
IMO, they should mix it up. CG Hawaii, West Coast, East Coast, CG Florida and let's not leave out the Great Lakes. You would be surprised by some of the hair-raising rescues and incidents in these locations. There use to be a show called SOS Coast Guard (it was almost like COPS).

Living up the coast from Kona, everytime I see the Coast Heli and or ship that frequent our shores .. I send them my deepest gratitudes for their courage to save lives!
My stepfather was in the Coast Guard in the late 60s early 70s & spent his time in Antarctica. The story's he's told us in what he seen and done was nothing like any other Branch in our US Military. 🇺🇸
Coast Guard is no joke man. They do some pretty crazy shxt. I've watched a lot of videos of them doin rescuers and boat seizures and they're the closest thing to fish you'll see as far as humans go. They just take to the water effortlessly. The stuff they do hanging off a helicopter is crazy.
He literally had a guy killed on his boat a year ago by getting crushed between pots… just like what happened to Francis here. Rip needs to hang up the captains hat and sit at home. Ridiculous he let something like that happen twice. Tighten down your stack and figure it out
Saw the CG in action and they saved my butt when I was left in charge of a 350' vessel in Dutch after a two week crash course in engineering during a monster storm. They can be amazing.
It's always interesting looking from the other side of the glass how tv glamourizes specific jobs but doesn't normally say much about others. The swimmer gets lots of the spotlight as they should be noted. But the swimmer could not do his job if the flight mech didn't do his/hers. Trie threading a needle in a moving car, with your hands and head out the windows while it's moving and getting sprayed with water. It looks simple and easy on TV, but... And none of them could do anything if not for the flying ability of the pilot(s). If you have ever driven a large RV in a crosswind, you might have a little bit of idea how bad it can be, but in a helo, you can't pull over and wait it out. It's a team and a well-oiled machine. As a crew member on a ship, one might think it's boring to float around in the middle of the ocean doing over 500 touch and goes allowing the flight deck of your ship to be the training platform while these pilots to improve their skills of night/day and rough weather landings. That's why the CG has some of the best pilots in the world as long as boat drivers. For them, it's all in a day's work. On TV, it makes people hold their breath sometimes. Cheers.
