Coastal Foraging - Rock Pooling for Crabs, Cockles, Prawns, Seaweeds and Shellfish | The Fish Locker 

This is the first time I have ever seen a youtuber handle animals so professionally! Keep doing what you love! :D

I was born and raised in a small community on a beach in North Florida. I was a bit of a tomboy and while the other little girls were playing Barbi, I could spend hours peering into ditches, watching the tadpoles and tiny fish living in their world. I loved playing with the hundreds of fiddler crabs near the house and of course all the sealife on the beach. I remember these big spiders that were all over the yard in huge webs. I would reach in and pull them right out and I learned they couldn't walk on the ground. How these videos brings back memories of happy times. Our beaches were very clean, other than shells so I'm seeing these wonderful tidepools for the first time. How fascinating! You are a wonderful example to your son.

Secondly, for these amazing videos, I was studying marine biologist but life happened and I am diabled now. I have not been able to do any proper rock pooling or tide pool exploration in 20 years. I absolutely adore all that you do and appreciate you for sharing. I feel like Im living vicariously through these videos.

The water is so clear I feel I'm turning the rocks over with you. I'm not selling this but for the less well informed there is a Gem Pocket Guide to the Seashore that cost £1.00 that helps identify just about everything, well worth seeking out to carry with you. Delighted this week, my wife is letting me book a 5 day fishing break in Eastbourne so I can at least try and catch a fish (it will be only my second time out).

I grew up by the coast and ate lots of shellfish, but only bought from the store. I've never seen them in the wild, these videos are so cool! Thanks for taking us on your walks. As an ecologist I appreciate the scientific names too and life history trivia you offer!

We live in London but have family in Cornwall and holiday there 5 or 6 times a year and its so rich in marine life and wonderful education for kids

another trip out with you and the young bloke mate. Loved it ! You always seem to reel back the years for me (and I thank you for that). However, your knowledge is stimulating on the things I took for granted without that important knowledge, that will be passed on to your young bloke and to anyone interested in shore life. My greatest experience of whelks , be they dog whelks or any whelk for that matter, is that they all have that channelled groove at the opening of their shells which is where they extend their drilling apparatus before feeding on their victims. Over here, their fav. food is cunjevoi (commonly known as sea squirt) which is a good fish bait for shore fishing. I found a lot of this type of sea snail is like a squid /octopus /sea cucumber/abelone (highly prized) / limpets etc . I eat whelks but have to extract the digested shell of what they were eating. Turban shells are same taste but don't feed on shellfish.(more like a giant winkle). Recently I encouraged my brothers partner to try the tail part of one and she described it tasting like liver . Hahaha, if only she knew. Anyways, your videos always lead me to my past and that is appreciated. Your knowledge is good and I look forward to our next trip on the sea or seaside. I don't live on the coast, so I can't exactly put all of the knowledge in your videos to good use, but I love seeing all of the wildlife and nature that could be hiding right under your nose. You've also done a great job of demystifying the process of of cooking all kinds of seafood, so next time I'm at the market I might just pick up some fresh crab! PS: Your voice and demeanor are very relaxing to hear, and it's so nice to see someone with your knowledge of and respect for nature. Keep up the good work.

Your son with you is awesome. The hermit crab takes me back to when I was not much older than your son. We went to the beach in cooler weather and unknown to my parents, I stuck several hermit crabs in my coat pocket. Unfortunately, the hermit crabs had a rather sad demise. But wait, there is more! My mom kept smelling something horrible. She thought it might be the dog... Finally, after much searching found the poor hermit crabs in my coat pocket. I had quite a talking to... I remember it still and it was so long ago :) Cheers! Enjoy the videos!

In my neck of the woods we have Cone Shells, blue-ringed octopus and stone fish, so sticking our hands into dark places isn't a great idea, but I still loved rock-pooling when I was a kid! like little magic gardens. Loved it so much.
