Thanks, as usual glad you enjoyed! I’ve tried them but I’m not the biggest fan, I like to use them as bait mainly. I know some people love them and often on big tides at Saundersfoot people go down to collect them with the purpose of eating, so must be a popular dish!
I've never been clamming before but I really wanna give it a go! I know the best place to look is sandy beaches when the tide's all the way out, I hope to find Gaper Clams like the one at 3:00 as well as Razor Clams, cos where there's empty shells there's guaranteed to be clams in the vicinity I would probably bring a garden trowel with the salt in case i do find a Gaper Clam because their siphon can be a foot under the sand
It’s definitely good fun! Yes you’re spot on, bring spring tides on sandy beaches and they’re often exposed. Also bang on, look for the shells and often they’re there! One tip I’d also say is they favour shaded beaches, often away from winds. A garden trowel works but make sure it’s good quality, I’ve broken many digging in wet sand. I’d perhaps also suggest bringing a garden fork, that has worked well for me in the past. Best of luck!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed. Do you have a car with you to drive to other marks etc? You can lure fish under the old life boat station. Best at sunrise and sunset if the tides coincide, can pick up bass and flounder if you slowly drag a lure along the bottom. There is a tackle shop just up from that mark too. I have a video fishing for flounder which shows the mark, will link here! On a trip to Jersey shore, I collected the shells, a lot of them, and at home handed them out to the grandkids, telling them they were mermaids' lost fake fingernails.
Have you been to the beaches from Swansea to Rhossili? I went to all the different beaches along that coast during low tide to find lobsters and razor clams but i don't see any. I keep wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if there really isn't any around these areas.
I have fished that area quite a few times! Razors are usually on sheltered beaches, I’m not sure if you would get that at Rhossili. You may get them around the sides of the beach, or, at a very low time. I’d suggest going on a very big tide when the tide is out all the way and trying it then.
@@bengriffithsseaangling2138 I've seen someone buying Penclawdd clams before and if there are clams there then there must be razor clams as well. Would you say that River Loughor is a sheltered beach since it is facing inland and there would be less wave energy so there might be more clams living there? And if there is such a thing as Penclawdd clams and it's right by River Loughor. I feel that they might be collecting the clams by that river?
You can make one pretty easy, any tube that’s round enough, open on one end. Push down around the clan, twist pull up. I made one that has a plunger type of deal on the top so I can make sure I get enough suction. You can retrofit a bicycle pump for razor clams, works great.
Hi Ben! I am a journalist at ITV West Country. We're looking to speak to someone who does razor clam fishing later today via Zoom? Just wondering if you're available? Thanks!
