Excellent documentation, Jearred. The only other advice I'd have is using a good respirator (like 3M quality) while spray painting and esp. clear coating. N99 filter for vapors and particulates is the best for this kind of work. Spray painting in an enclosed garage with no vapor ventilation going out is not good for your lungs.

I recently welded a Coastal Offroad front bumper for a 5th generation for a freind. I did not tack it in place as the directions state. There was some minor trimming required on the inside part of the fenders. Basically some small cuts with an angle grinder. Other than that the bumper fit great.

My only complaint about the job you did is that long bolt that goes through the frame, you should have cut a small Piece of tubing and tack weld it in place so that when you crank that bolt tight it can’t crush the frame rail. But at this point it’s probably not much of an issue. I would also advise when welding plates like that together make sure there is a bevel Cut in, or that the plates are only touching at the inside corners, this will leave a valley to fill with weld, so when you grid it smooth it will still have enough weld to be strong. (Jody from welding tips and tricks has some great examples of what I’m talking about if you look for outside corner joint videos) However this video is a year old and if it’s held up to abuse all this time it’s probably fine. More tips for future projects. Or for other people Looking to do a project like this.
@jfoutdoors4337
@jfoutdoors4337 4 года назад
cbchevy74 thanks for the feedback. I see you point on the tubing inside the frame rail. Makes sense. As for beveling the plates. I did for those that needed it and most of the edges lined up on the inside corners. Not to mention, I welded the outside and inside of the bumper

LICHT DATA COMMUNICATIONS, INC/ CISCO SELECT PARTNER IN OC nothing special. Good welder, lots of grinding wheels and flap wheels. A good degreaser and primer. I’d recommend a epoxy based primer and good top coat like upol raptor. Make sure you weld with decent tack welds. Then, when you finish weld, do a few inches, stop and go to another side. Repeat until finished. Pay close attention to the main support pieces as outlined in the instructions, weld every edge possible! Most of all, have fun, watch this video and enjoy your new bumper!

Good job overall but you put the joints together wrong hence the fitment issues and will result in a weaker finish. Should line up the inside edges of each peice not sit them on top. That way it creates a V to catch the weld and ensures sufficient penetration for both bits of parent material. It also removes the need to bevel peices for correct fitment

Can you help me figure this out. I want to order the same kit, I have 2.5 suspension lift so what body lift to i have to choose. And the body build, what do they mean by flare?
@jfoutdoors4337
@jfoutdoors4337 3 года назад
TheUrEstupid you don’t HAVE to use a body lift. That’s a choice, I prefer not to have a BL. The flare is referring to the fender flares that come on your 4runner. So if you have the flares like I have, you want the wider version.

@jfoutdoors4337 3 года назад
ZER0o10 I was using a titanium welder from harbor freight with flux core. I don’t recall what settings. Other then I started as per recommendations and then added a little more amps

How’s your condenser and radiator. Did you need to replace it those sparks are hit enough to go straight through a tube 🤣 I’ve done it before

Im in the process of building one of these and the bumper mounting location vs the winch mount location looks a little sketchy. Have you winched with this bumper yet?
@jfoutdoors4337
@jfoutdoors4337 Год назад
I never did no. But I have observed others use their bumpers with a winch with zero issues.

Does a winch fit in there or do you need to cut the grille? Looks really tight!
@jfoutdoors4337
@jfoutdoors4337 4 года назад
john mikrut yes it fits. You do need to cut a small section out of the bottom of the grill. However, looks and fits awesome
