Hiked from near Cape Arid to Esperance over about 10 days September 1997. Locals called me "The Mad American". The hike of a lifetime. Saw one other person the whole trip. Thank you for re-awakening a host of memories. Yes the wet granite is very slippery...

Wow that’s an epic hike. Was water hard to find? It’s sooooo slippery. Wish I got my tumbles on camera.

@@KateGrarock IO wore the seat out of my rain pants sliding down those rock outcroppings. Water -- I actually had a desalinator I brought along, but it was heavy and the high effort was exhausting. Did not use it. Fortunately it was September and a bit wet. To the east of Esperance it is primarily granite/other impervious stone... those slippery rocks... and water runs off the upper areas/grazing land and sometimes crosses the beach in little rivulets about every ten miles. If it has been raining you can also sometimes find fresh water seeping out of the sand at low tide. Subsurface water is like a lens and is higher up the beach and lower near the oceans edge. if you dig in between you can find water sometimes, if there has been enough rain. Continued walk west of Esperance toward Denmark. That is limestone/old petrified reef and water drains through. Water was much harder to find that side, but there were a couple parks/picnic sites. I would like to get back sometime, but I am almost 70 now with a late life daughter in medical school... lots of bills to pay. Thanks for all the great videos.

What glorious country and such white beautiful sand. WA is amazing and yes, so foreign. Those rock formations are so cool. I'm with you on the Raddix meals, Best almost instant hike food. So cool having it and that little roo to yourself. Love the bird life and flora. Great colours and views. Shame about the storm, but made for great light and skies! Great video!

Thanks a lot Fiona. Yes was a great hike that’s for sure. Apparently the roos are normally on the beaches. That would have been cool. But think I was the only one silly enough to be on there 😝 Hope you’re well mate

what a great little trip, good to see things dont always work out and youve gotta take a few risks on less than ideal camp sites. Along with the weather and tide, I think I would've been pretty stressed out through the night, learned a lot watching this, thanks for bringing us along.

I’m sorry you didn’t have the best weather. In bright sunshine the water just sparkles with such a vivid blue. I think that’s the 2nd best hiking trail in WA (after the Karijini gorges). That spot on the hill between Rossiter and Lucky Bays (you show it right near the end) is just stunning. That’s why I love that trail in the opposite direction you went, because of that big reveal as you crest that first hill! Next time you’re in WA try the Hakea Trail. The ecology, geology and ocean are all great. X

Granite is stunning. Little skip was so trusting, cute. Such a beautiful coastline, complete with a shot of kangaroo’s paw. Camping just above the high water mark on a full moon added an entertaining touch of suspense to the story line 😅 Thanks for sharing another adventure.

Great video Kate. Loving the big granite bolders and this edit was particularly soothing with the big vast ocean views and music. Also loving your colorful pack, reminds me of the bright colored gear you used to see used in the outdoor community in the 80's and 90's.

Hard keeping to a time frame when surrounded by such beauty, & especially familiar, yet unfamiliar, even more intriguing. Wow! that weathered balancing boulder. Love hiking in the rain! And, definitely safety first in a storm. Cute kangaroo. We really look forward to seeing a W.A sunset, and a Full Moon, what a bonus. All I'm gonna say Kate is Tides/Times... 😉 Boy that weather got wild, glad you showed us the view from the car. We're planning for W.A. in 2024. Thanks for sharing - Cheers.
