In this video, I show you a bit of the beautiful coastline that surrounds my old home town of Victoria BC. Victoria is located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island surrounded by the ocean.
You'll get some footage of the pretty inner harbor and Clover Point Park. We'll see various boats, wildlife and get up close into the tide pools.
Stay tuned for part two when I take you 40-50 miles to the west of downtown Victoria to some wilder sections of the Pacific coastline.

I live in Vancouver and rarely get over to the island anymore. It has changed a lot. I can't believe the COHO hasn't been retired yet. And $93 a night for a waterfront RV pad. Probably worth it though for a couple of nights.

Prior to spending a week working out of the Empress in Feb in the early 80s, I was at the Kennedy Space Center where the weather was cold and miserable both weeks. You can imagine my surprise to arrive in Victoria where it was spring and flowers were starting to bloom. It’s an experience I’ll never forget.

Ray, I just thought of two more places we love on the island. We have stayed at Salmon point and parked at the beach spaces. Only had to go out the door and walk one space to the left and we could set at a table on the beach and have a lovely lobster and drinks at the gorgeous restaurant. Next one is our all time favorite. Browns Bay 19 km north of Campbell River. Have stayed there twice, one week each time. Walked over and had dinner in the floating restaurant. Love this place.

We used to stay at Weirs RV Park out west of where you were showing. We always parked with our windshield right on the beach. There is a prison island with in view of the rv park we used to watch the inmates catching salmon off of the pier. That RV park on the harbor has been bought and renamed Salish Seaside RV Haven. The water front spaces are $93 per night. We used to stay there in the old days ( twice) and ride the water taxi's across to the fun.

So I hadn't seen any advertising from Wiers RV Park lately, that is why as they were bought out and the name changed along with the prices ! At $93 per night I can,t see us staying there. We love the west coast of the Island too, Tofino , Chesterman beach, Years ago we took my family there and backed the Motor Home right looking onto the beach. Good to see the sea stars returning too. Thanks Ray looking forward to the next video. I used to live in Port Hardy many years ago.

Yeah. camping is getting pricey on the Island pretty well everywhere. The population has grown a ton in the last few decades but not many new RV parks or campgrounds have been developed. Even up in Campbell River, we are paying a $1075 monthly rate (about $800 USD) Cheers, Ray

@@johnmaggs769 No it's not Weirs that was bought out. It was the RV park at the entrance to the harbor in Victoria that was shown in this video.

Thanks for the video. Just last Monday we took out of town guests up to Hurricane Ridge. A couple of years ago, we stopped at Victoria on a return leg of an Alaska cruise and we walked from the cruise terminal to the park above Clover Point and then wandered our way back to the cruise terminal. Victoria is such a walkable city.

Thanks Ray. Brings me back to a couple years ago when we stayed at an Air BnB on Dallas Rd immediately across from Clover Pt (the house with the two dormers at 13:20 but no construction then). Sometimes it's nice to leave the RV at home.

Nice! though if I remember right the Texas ferry is only a very short hop between barrier Islands, not a crossing such as the one up here, 25 miles of sometimes rough seas and cold waters. Cheers, Ray

Hi Ray great video. I am not sure if you have done a video on this before but if not I thought maybe it would be a good idea. Let's say you have an RV or trailer capable of being off grid for up to 2 weeks. You are going to visit friends for a week or two but they don't have a place on their land where you can park. What is the list of resources you would use to find the cheapest/safest/closest spot to boon-dock near your friends place? Do you have a little checklist that you go through in these situations? I am going to visit in Scottsdale AZ and would like to find the cheapest place I can as I do not require hookups. Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks Ray!

Do you ever have kayakers go out in the bay or out to the lighthouse? Is it safe or do the Orcas pose too much of a threat?
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV 5 лет назад
Yes, kayaking is really popular around Vancouver Island. Juan De Fuca Strait has pretty large currents and often big waves and winds so not many around that area but lots in the Gulf and the San Juan Islands where it's more sheltered. Orca aren't much of a threat to them. Don't seem to bother them. Cheers, Ray
