COBALT8 Preset Sound Demos 

This arrived today. My goodness. It sounds wonderful. I've played and owned both analog and digital and hybrid synths for 24 years and the possibilities seem to be endless, for a VA. Although it is 100% digital, it is possible to make this sound really warm and very analog. Much can be done in the oscillator bank alone to give a much wider range of tone possibilities than the classic poly synths of the 70's and 80's.

Great work on the Cobalt8 guys! Sounds very crisp and spacious. As an Argon8 owner this is also right up my alley.

Fantastic synthesizer, well done wizards! I'd love to get one once I'm done building new rooms. This, along with some other 37-keyed FM synthesizer that came out not too long ago, just stands out in being versatile and sounding superb at the same time!

I got to say Modal this is a nice looking and well designed synth. That blue is so enticing. It stands on the shoulders of the Supernova.

Thanks for the wonderful demo. I combine my 61 key Cobalt with a Waldorf Pulse 2 desktop. What a sound I can get from either, as they each are monster synths, but together they are monstrous!

I thought this sounded kind of dull until 5:50. Jesus, that patch is so nice, great playing also

This synth has an amazing sound engine. My request to modal would be to allow all parameters sound, sequencer, /arp and effects storage under the program title for quick recall. But there are a limited amount of sequencer/arp locations to go with the amount of patches on board...So I don’t think Theres workaround for that . I was surprised to see that the real time sequences are not editable or viewable as well . But the modulation options on offer here is the true strength of this synth anyway as well as its ability to open inside of the daw like a “plug in “ as the legendary virus synths did. The raw waves are drop dead amazing and modulation routings are very straightforward plentiful and the morphable filter is smooth and does the trick . Plus with the app it’s a snap to see as well. I’m not a fan of shift commands at all so the apps overview is especially useful for me. Editing with the screen and shift commands is a buzz kill in the moment of creation. Engineers very rarely get that. But nonetheless modal has provided a great synth for an incredible price. Build quality is top notch and the keyboard is my favorite ...Fatar! Full size . Hi just got this synth (8M) and it sounds amazing, love it can you tell me what the main keys or chords are on 6:25 Cobalt Horns? Beautiful. Looks like you are using a sustain pedal and the camera is out of view a bit so it is hard to tell.

Will be also available 61 keys like the Argon? Great synth, and fantastic sounds.

Very modern sounding synth, it can fit to any modern genre. It sounds clear, precise, almost vst alike, but it has more depth which is to be expected from hardware synth. I find it can work amazing with music where you need 70/80s tones but in edgy and cutting way. It can get smooth as well, but i dont hear its has that analog muddines and low end fulness, which is actually great thing as well. It can have its place in crowded mix, and somehow i think it can do i wonders in modern prog metal music when synths are needed.

As an Argon owner/lover, I'd love to see a video showing the exact differences between the two. This sounds very lovely but it feels somewhat within the territory of what the Argon can do.

Will you ever make a bi timbral synth at all? I appreciate what you are doing but it does seem odd that completely digital synths don’t have the ability to have splits and layers...especially on the larger X versions.

The modulo pad sounds like an H90 Prism Shift patch with a guitar.

In the sound demo 117 PLUCK OR SWEEP starts around 8:15, throughout the section there is an occasional high pitched click that I can hear in my headphones. Is this just a RU-vid error or is it on the actual patch? Maybe note stealing as you are running out of poly with such a sustaining patch and only 8 notes available. It would be good to know what it is as I'm seriously considering buying the 8X. :)

Enjoyed this demo yet would like to add that preset 20 "Cobalt Horns" doesn't really sound like horns or any other blown instruments, rather more like strings and a pad sound. To my ears this misses the initial puff to really sound like horns. I do want to compliment the engineers and sounddesigners because the Colbalt8 has real character.

Love the hard work. I’m a 002 owner, so I say this with real investment in your company - but please put better knobs on this (and the argon). The entire thing feels cheap. Just had a friend return his argon for the knob feel, too. I’d gladly be willing to pay more for better craftsmanship.

Nice synth, sounds like it can quite competently cover a lot of different sounds/moods! Could you also do a demo without the built-in effects, so we can just hear the oscillators and different oscillator algorithms? And then maybe use some external (or VST plugin) effect like a spring reverb to see how Cobalt8 holds up to some of your competitor's (soon to be released) cloned trips to memory lane?

I hated this synth user interface when it first came out, all those encoders and you can't see where they are set unless you turn one. But this synths offers so much else in sonic possibilities that I am now considering it.

Looks for all the world like a blue Argon with different algorithms loaded. Argon itself was if anything "too VA" oriented for a true Wave Table digital synth. I have an Argon, I like it, but you have to push it to get into weird SciFi sonic landscapes and seems to want to default to VA style sounds. Seeing as this now covers the VA thing, could you release updates to make the Argon more synthetic, more digital, more ethereal and experimental (So that Argon is more in Blofeld and Hydrasynth territory)? Is this Cobalt closer to being simply a more VA oriented Argon variant, or a is it more akin to a "Skulpt Pro" in an Argon form factor? At the moment only 2 factors have me interested in this 1) I live near and work in Bristol, so you're one of the two local synth companies 2) I have an MPE controller and you support MPE (I assume this will also do so, like Argon and Skulpt?)

The chassis is identical to Argon 8? Personally I think a more environmental route is to do what Roland did with Plug outs. I have an Argon and I love it, but...really? I have to buy another identical box for different software? I'm assuming you're all environmentalists at Modal? How about saving the earths resources a little? Put your money where your mouth is...
