Anyone attempting to make synthesized percussion should watch the first 17 minutes. I bought an Argon 8 in 2024 and have applied these techniques after watching the video multiple times - but - I also own a Roland SH-4d and applied the knowledge to that unit as well. The teachings apply to any synth with a decent mod matrix. Thank you!
If your sequencer or arpeggiator doesn't work, check the clock settings. It might be on "sync" (external clock). Switching it to "master" will solve problems.
It kills me to think modal might not exist anymore as a company... really hoping you guys can revive after all of this nonsense, but i have no insight into the situation so maybe that's not in the cards. Well, I love my cobalt8x. The new 2.0 filters basically made it one of the best sounding VA on planet earth
This sequencer is just genious! It would be great to be able to restart the sequence with some manual command to make repetitive short phrases easier. Maybe it's possible to set the sustain pedal to do that? It would be amazing
A bit more clarity as to how you enter arp/seq mode, enter the notes and then trigger it would have been useful, as the manual basically says that it exists and that’s that. I shall try to work it out…
Why 0 - 3 values on AEG Attack has no effect on Argon8? This issue need to be fixed. It is impossible to get punchy sounds if the attack is not instant. (tested on two units)
This thing is giving me vibes of waking up at 3am on the couch, and seeing some random 80's movie you've somehow never heard of, and the acting is so bad, but the soundtrack is just lush with the best synth sounds.
Hi. I have Modal Craft Synth 1 and I try to connect my Mac using Ableton Live 12. I have downloaded latest plugin from your site but I cannot connect to my Craft Synth. The connection is working with iPad using your software but on my Mac. When used with iPad I also checked that the Craft Synth is running latest update ver. 1.1 I think it was. What I am doing wrong?
Do an 8 poly one for 900 AUD instead of 500 ish and I am sold. Or allow me to chain 2 for 8 poly like my Tetra. I just can't play a poly synth polyphonically with 4 voices, no matter if it sounds great or not, as even one chord would cause issues.
Great little synth. Used to own one, gave it to a friend. I was missing it today, so I just bought one used for 105 USD from Patchwerks. They were sold out new and used everywhere, unless I wanted to pay 150 plus 150 shipping from Spain. lol.
thanks for posting. I haven't been able to get my Korg MicroX VST editor to work in Cubase for years. But going thru this to set up my Modal showed me the All Midi setting and Local Control and now they both work great! Both of them are seriously underrated synths.
Modal Argon8m and Cobalt8M are good synthesizers, the only drawbacks I see are the filters, they are not pretty and the volume drops when the resonance is raised, that should not happen, the resonance is raised to alter the signal, not to reduce it, and the resonance is too much. thin, you should be able to widen to your liking and the bandpas option is not there, the morpho mode is not enough, it does not make real bands, the effects are all laughable, they sound poor and are not pleasant, none of them sound metallic and it is better not to use them, they look like a toy Thank goodness there are the effects of the daw in which it integrates perfectly, Argon8m does not come with several banks of wave tables, it only comes with one, per oscillator, which does not have 8 oscillators per voice either, do not sell something that is not, the option bank is black, you can't touch it, I don't know why it comes out, if it's deactivated, the outputs are not balanced and they introduce noise into the neighboring channels, otherwise, they sound good, they are practical and easy to handle, but you have to work harder in improving them because there are vsts that are not dsp and sound more powerful and better, these are not dsp either

Buscaba un móulo o sinte pequeño básicamente para bajos o sonidos de calidad. Tengo varios Roland, tuve y descarté el Moog Minitaur y, actualmente, no sé si hay algo mejor que el Modal Cobalt 5s como sintetizador pequeño. Quizás en poco tiempo me atreva con el Modal Cobalt 8. Un monstruito difícil de superar por sus prestaciones/calidad/precio. El Skulpt lo tengo aún en el punto de mira. Pero no sé si está mejor dotado que el Cobalt 5s.
After an hour of trying and fiddling in Ableton Live 11, this appears to only work through Midi DIN IN, not through the Modal App and USB. I.e. you need to setup a audio channel with the VSTi and a midi channel with output to an External Instrument connected to the 5-pin input of the Cobalt8. And instead of selecting 1 midi in channel on the External Instrument, select MPE.
If creating a 1-bar, 16-step sequence using Draw mode, how do you create a note that sustains longer than a 16th note? I would have thought that you can drag the end of a note to lengthen it, but it doesn't work for me.
