"It was an amazing find, one that is etched in my memory. Even today when I step into my truck and catch sight of my 148 nestled in there, a smile inevitably comes on my face. The day itself was serendipitous; I had concluded my garage sale rounds when a yard sale sign caught my eye on the way home. Despite it nearing noon hour, I decided to go ahead and check it out, knowing that such opportunities are rare gems when it's that late. But to my astonishment, there they were: two Cobra 148s, setting there in unopened boxes atop a blanket laying on the lawn. As I lifted one of the boxes, the realization dawned upon me-they were indeed in there and then, spotting the unbelievably modest $2 price tag, I couldn't believe my luck. With a mix of excitement and apprehension, I swiftly made the purchase, hoping no one would change their mind. Upon reaching home and opening the box, I was met with sheer incredulity. They were immaculate, just as depicted in the video, still sealed bags with all wires in factory tie wraps, every protective layer intact. What's more, to this extraordinary find is that day was on my 60th birthday, rendering it an unparalleled gift of serendipity. As for the remaining unit, I've been unable to bring myself to unwrap it; it's become a cherished time capsule, a testament to that unforgettable find. I don't think there is many 148's out there in that condition after 25+ years. I sure wished I could have days of luck like that everyday

@@TheElectronMan Wonder where they got the idea of high SWRs? I have had few days like your Bday yard sale, I tell you that. If you think you can part with it, I'm interested but I'm sure you're keeping it. My Grant XL has stopped transmitting, likely an issue caused by my Wilson 1000.

I've been contemplating this for some time now, and it strikes me that there might be a scenario where a truck stop store or similar establishment, offering CB equipment, inadvertently played a role. Picture this: someone purchases a CB radio, installs it, then returns, citing poor SWR. Subsequent exchanges might follow a similar pattern, resulting in multiple units showing high SWR. However, the root cause likely lies with the antennas rather than the radios themselves. It's conceivable that a store attendant, encountering this pattern, might have generalized the issue to all units, marking them as having high SWR, even those unopened. This is merely conjecture, of course, but it's a plausible explanation. Good thing was the marker he marked with wiped right off so my boxes are clean now. I tell you what if I ever decide to get rid of new one in a box I will give you first dibs on it.@@zedbear1

Dude not sure why all the negativity that is epoxy covered work bench there was no harm done to the radio and BTW still a win at 20.00 that is 10X what I paid for it...
