A compilation of all the main scenes between Cobra Commander and Serpentor, from season 2 of G.I Joe, through the 1987 animated movie and up until the DIC series.
Cobra Commander was egotistical and a maniac, but he understood his men and understood that none of them were perfect. Serpentor had a God complex and refused to see his troops for what they were.
@@thesailormercury2 except Megatron almost won the war against the autobots in his movie and killed nearly ALL the original autobot soldiers had it not been for Unicron he would of won

Marvel and DC comics and it’s cartoons, really did improve reading and writing skill set of its readers and audience. It made reading and certain words in general, fun. You learned without realizing you learned.
They assumed their audience wasn't retarded and treated them to a well developed story with complex themes, concepts and vocabulary that would suit anyone in the real world.
@@sabin97 Fun fact every Cobra Commander voice actor has always voiced at least 1 Starscream from transformers previously it’s basically mandatory for hasbro
This show was the epitome of fantastically verbose villain discourse with intelligent vocabulary by brilliant voice actors underscored by poignantly perfect music throughout.
I never paid it no mind back when I was kid watching the reruns in the late 80s/early 90s but looking at thirty years later as an adult, I appreciate it now.
Yeah but then in 1989 DIC was the company who did the animation and put new characters and disappeared some of the core ones and the soundtracks changed a lot and it sounded Like Trash
Cobra Commander was right at his Cobra-La trial. His troops lack courage. Serpentor ignored this and blame Cobra Commander, but they were still the same cowardly fools that used to follow Cobra Commander. In fact the major Cobras were worse, because they quickly realized they couldn't reason with Serpentor at all, thus following Serpentor into stupid attacks until their cowardice overrode their fear of Serpentor. Serpentor using CC as a scapegoat led him to ignore the fundamental problems with Cobra forces, their overall incompetency and cowardice. Thus Serpentor's leadership was self-sabotaged from almost the beginning.
I think that was the point - the Commander warned them but they ignored him and self-destructed Also Serpentor DID fail - he lost to Duke LOL in the beginning of the movie So man to man he failed
I always found this to be a weird development since Cobra Commander is the iconic villain, whenever you see a collage of 80s bad guys it’s always CC and never Serpentor.
Yea but they had to up the ante with bigger bad to get viewers to tune in ever week. All shows did it. Heck even Skeletor was shown to be a lacky to Hordak[sic] but you always see Skeletor in promos even if Sheera is shown.
Serprentor also had a really dumb costume. Cobra Commanders looked much more realistic and serviceable. Serprentor had that stupid head piece he wore and a dumb cape. LOL
Makes you appreciate the fact we learned more advanced vocabulary from a cartoon show from the 1980's rather then the content that's currently being offered in today's society.
Cobra's problem was that there was no unity, no discipline, or thorough planning. Cobra Commander sometimes actually came up with sound plans but didn't plan for the long game. When that didn't happen, everybody undermined each other.
I blame his subordinates who would quickly quarrel with one another even after he laid out a thorough plan. As he once complained: " My cubes....my Wonderful Cubes...all gone!! Aghhhhh....Now I'll never rule the world! I hate this job!!!"
Just turned 39, love gi joe, tmnt, transfomers, Gargoyles, Batman the animated series, Spider-Man the animated series, X-men, and so many cartoons. Duck tales, Tale Spin, Rescue Rangers
I always enjoyed watching G.I. Joe when I was a kid, but, until watching this video I never truly realized how advanced the dialogue was for this show! And the power struggle between Serpentor and Cobra Commander is far more entertaining to me now, than it ever was when I was a kid!
The DIC crew obviously hated Serpentor as much as most viewers did. He was supposed to have been killed at the end of the '87 movie but they brought him back just to have a much more humiliating ending for him. LOL
Part of blame may lie in his DNA when Dr. Mindbender decided to substitute Sun-tzu's DNA with that of WWE Legend Sgt. Slaughter after he lost the genetic sample of said ancient Chinese strategist.
@@Phathom0 Serpentor had a code of honor as well. See the episode with that creature sent by CC to asssasinate him.He actually put his life into the line in order to save his subjects. His problem is that he lacked all other attributes that defines a great leader.
@@drixg555 I think it's implied that was TOTALLY to blame. Instead of having the patience of that lost DNA, he got Sgt.Slaughter's (steroids-filled) DNA, lol.
Nah Galvatron was smarter, plus we can blame Galvatrons fractured mental state on Unicron. Dude had a Mental Link with him where Galvatron was mentally tortured several times, and had it inadvertently severed when Unicron well….died? I guess? Even with the fractured mental state the dude was still dangerous as hell, plus he actually got better. Serpentor only got worse🤣
Hell yeah they actually knew how to make compelling cartoons back then. Now days it seems like produces take inspiration from being high as a kite and just creating a cartoon based on their hallucinations or fever dreams
@@Tupapcu Tell me about it! It only makes it sad when you bring up the old Cartoons and you get the classic, “They where just made to sell toys!!”, meanwhile I am like, “Then can we *please go back to making cartoons just to sell toys like in the late 70s to early 90s?* At least then people knew how to write good stuff, hell I will buy a toy or two if we can get good stuff again!”
Star Scream = Cobra Commander in blue Serpentor = Ultron GI Joe back in the day was awesome! I miss this show as well as the original transformers. But that line, “holding Washington is going to be hard but the entire United States!?! That’s impossible! I’ve tried!” I was rolling hahaha!!!!
Honestly I hated Serpentor, he was a giant jerk, Cobra Commander was Charismatic and didn’t think he was actually perfect, Cobra Commander superior Serpentor inferior
It's a from bad to worse situation with these two. Both Serpentor and Cobra Commander were lacking leaders if you ask me. The only positive aspect of Serperntor is that he had more courage. Cobra Commander was just a a useless leader as Serpentor. Only the brilliant performance of his Voice Actor, Chris Latta made him more sympathetic than Serpie.
Another weakling, Cobra Commander lover. DIC'S cartoon was senseless, Serpentor couldn't be overpowered by a mere python. He made more sense as Cobra's leader than Cobra Commander cowardly behind. Serpentor had multiple DNA so how in the hell can a python overpower him if Sargeant Slaughter couldn't?
Priceless lines from both. A true duel of large hams * "Your ego-driven stupidity has converted victory to catastrophe for the last time!" * "Your leadership has been pompous, pusillanimous and pathetic!" * "The first man who touches me will curse the day he was born!" * "Is there no one here who will have rid me of this self-satisfied vermin?"
The problem with making a genetic leader from the conquerors and tyrants of history is you get their flaws in addition to their strengths. Some key faults were narcissism, poor long term planning, abusiveness, unrealistic goals, and ignoring his advisors. To create a better leader, you must first understand why they failed.
Yeah, even leaders such as Napoleon and Alexander the Great had faults to them which they'd admit to. Frankly, Cobra should've just picked one great conqueror of history and used their DNA to create Serpentor. I'd have used Napoleon as he was a military genius and a great emperor of France, they would just need to adjust his DNA to make Serpentor loyal to Cobra while keeping in mind Napoleon's faults and how to keep him in check.
The one redeeming Factor about the DIC GI Joe operation dragon fire is the fact that Cobra Commander got revenge Serpentor On a side note after serpentor became a thing it seems like we got to see more of the comedic side (as in Burns and jabs) of Chris Latta who after all was a stand-up comedian
As a kid, I always felt that the DIC series wasn't even in the same league as the Marvel Productions series, but I have to say, these Serpentor versus Cobra Commander scenes were pretty interesting. Makes me want to go back and give that series another chance.
@@manwhoooo Christ Latta is one of the greatest voice actors of all-time, no doubt about that. I'll check out that mini-series! Thanks. One thing I couldn't stand about the DIC series was the "got to get tough!" theme.
@@freddyvidz It was on there (Tubi) at one time, but it was removed at some point, don't know when. Hope it pops back on there. Wonder if it was a licensing related issue with whoever owns the DIC library? Some of their other toons have since been removed also.
@@josecarlosramolete6109 Unicron is more like Golobulus Yes Golobulus create Serpentor is Extremely like Unicron create Galvatron Am I Right For Ya?
As a child it was unique to see the power fight between Cobra Commander & Serpentor. It was a constant power fight within Cobra. Dr. Mindbebder and Destro were always cool with Serpentor but Serpentor didn't care for Cobra Commander at all, lol
Bro I was just on RU-vid looking around. How’d you get me so invested in this to watch the whole thing? That’s some Serpentor brainwash shit if you ask me
You dare speak that way about Sepentor?!! You incompetent fool!! If it weren’t for you’re lack of focus and dedication, we would’ve defeated the Joes by now!!! Lol. Sorry I couldn’t help myself.
This is priceless. I didn't know there was more episodes after Cobra Commander turned into a snake. In the GI Joe movie(don't remember the name), CC at the just disappeared. The same movie got stab in the chest trying to save his brother. As I remember, Serpentor lacked patience and humility. Dr. Mindbender was unable to get the DNA of Sun Tzu.
IN the cartoon cobra commander was the typical cowardly villian but in comics he was far more deadlier. Especially idw version ^^ Shame haven't been any recent tv shows like with its transformers counterpart.
@@alluringming Snake Eyes movie then the Lady Jaye series coming to Amazon. After that I think they plan to do a slow burn on the characters, but I get what you mean now.
@@travismiller4320 The Movie in hindsight was a bad idea. The series could've lasted a couple more seasons. Since the COIL was shown in the comic, Maybe the Civil War would also happen at some point as well.
Serpentor was a lame blow hard. Back in the day, everybody loved Cobra Commander and seeing all the Cobra lackeys just accept Serpentor as their Lord was bad writing. You don't see anyone clamouring for Serpentor in a G.I.Joe movie/series these days do you?
Bad writing always when you fail to write a better story for replacing the current leadership. Serpentor was hated but his design or character look was good. His backstop was not written well. CC should have been given a loyal following, not been written so cowardly even in failure but the 80's writers tended to do that. Cobra should have split into two factions, CC and Mindbender/Serpentor loyalists. CC should have remain more mysterious and more stern, he wore a mask and had mystery surrounding him from inception. Never should have went down the cowardly path.
Growing in the eighties and watching GIJoe cartoon, dedicatedly (and some of the comics - which differed from the television series) since its inception; and collecting the figures, playing with them will always be a huge part of my life and Generation X.
Sometimes I think HASBRO would of been better off going with their original vision for Serpentor being the supreme ruler of Cobra behind the scenes, with Cobra Commander being the one who lead the military forces. It just fits a little better in my head then "lets artificially create someone to boss us around". Sure before his creation the show had built up Cobra Commander as the only one in charge, but they could of just had it established the guy had such an ego that he enjoyed pitching himself as the only one in charge despite Serpentor being the power behind Cobra. If they had gone that way, they could also of given Serpentor the origin they retconed Cobra Commander having. As in, a member of Cobra La sent into the world to conquer it for the rest of his people. Cause it's very difficult to reconcile all those retcons from the movie with the prior seasons concerning the Commander.
Yeah - growing up during this era, the mid-80s had this "he's so evil, he abuses his own servants" phase. It somewhat started with the likes of Hordak and the Megatron/Starscream banter, but Galvatron and Serpentor brought it to a new level.
So this would be what it'd be like if Galvatron didn't kill Starscream, and kept him around instead. Because this is EXACTLY how I see their 'relationship' working out in G1 S03 if that were the case. Serpentor if clearly an unstable psychopath because he's an unobvious Frankenstein's Monster of genetic templates of histories greatest conquerors, and tyrants. Clearly Dr. Mindbender and his buddy scientist who worked on him didn't consider the possibility of mental instability from having so many genes make an amalgamation like this: if i'm right, then Serpentor clearly handled that kind of issue than Perfect Cell ever did, considering the guy's a raving, volatile lunatic who adopted Megatron's hobby of casual Cobra Commander/Starscream abuse. I mean, I know they were losing constantly even under the commander's reign, but it's not like Serpentor proved any better. I think they were better off with CC, and after the movie when the Commander disappeared for a time, the rest of Cobra started realizing it too: probably when he fulfilled the Galvatron role by turning all of THEM into his punching bags without CC around to take out his rage hormones via physical and verbal trouncing. It's basically a spiritual way of saying even Starscream could lead the Decepticons better than that psychotic lunatic, Galvatron (after the plasma baths broke his sanity) ever could - and that's sad, in a way.^^;
Serpentor was so mentally unstable that not even the 'CEO of the underworld' Lucifer herself tolerates him from his condescend traits; she'll simply have to turn that monster of a genetic creation into vinegar if he and Lucy ever met.
Quick question. Who called retreat the more? Cobra Commander? Of Megatron? Because once their plans went south. The call for retreat was always called out.
I’d say Cobra Commander more often just by dint of being in more episodes. And there were some G1 episodes where it was Optimus Prime calling the retreat and the Autobots were the ones running away.
Seems like all the characters had some kind of make over by the time Cobra Commander got his revenge. And what kind of gimmick is that where they infuse snakes with vehicles?
