The theme tune just came into my head randomly as a 35 year old man currently feeding my baby. I have no idea where that came from but here we are. I had forgotten all about this show, but what a masterpiece it was!
10:35 - as a kid, I thought the Thunder Hawk's gull wing doors turning into wings was the coolest thing ever, but as an adult I can't help think how nightmarish the turbulence would be!
As someone that grew up in the 90s and had loads of 80s cartoon reruns, I have to disagree. Animation stepped up its game so much. Not just with the animation itself but also with story telling and voice acting. Back then a lot of it was just case of the week type shows. With maybe an overarching villain that was very one-dimensional. Nowadays I've watched animated series like Young Justice where they had complex storytelling, loads of character development and very clever writing and twists.
@@HieilluaBut the difference is that cartoons of the 80's were pretty much about 25 minute toy commercials. Where as much as Warner Brothers wanted to sell toys for Young Justice, it didn't happen, because it's targeted towards young adults. Young Justice is a great show though.
im 46 now and i used to have a toy collection of MASK. they were cool back then during my childhood but too bad i gaveaway all of them to friends and cousins. still a big fan of this cartoon
Daniald kenalkan namaku'MIRA DAMAYANTI"Umurku sm umurmu sama,Mira juga umurnya 46 taun,Apalagi mira wktu s.m.p smpai sekrng ini juga suka bnget sm film mask😉
Man!!!!! This was one of my favorites in my childhood!!!! The music!!!!! So 80’s First MASK, then G.I. Joe, and finish with the Transformers!!!!!! And the comercials with the toys!!!!! So many great afternoons!!!
With you.. I’m 44 and had almost every toy in the line when I was a kid..just started re collecting them.. Star Wars and mask are my all time favorites
Check out the War for Cybertron Unicron toy. I hear where you're coming from, but toys are much more advanced than they were, it's the kids that are driving demand down as they look for apps and video games over action figures. I loved the Mask toys. I'd have them run special missions for G.I. Joe.😉
Disney animation wasn’t great at that time. Look at Little Mermaid, it’s pretty poor. Plus, this was a tv show so needed to be animated quickly, Disney ha the luxury of time and money.
@@muskratvalhalla9954 The Little Mermaid was a jewel in Disney's crown, representing one of the largest budgets on animation in decades. It used novel rotoscoping techniques and had so many animators they needed to outsource some of the work to finish in the allotted time. Take five minutes and go watch the opening scene with the ship in the storm and look at the animation of the rolling seas, which was done entirely by hand (the last Disney full-length film to be colored by hand). It's absolutely amazing. Disney may have cut corners over the years, but to say it was "pretty poor" is a gross misrepresentation of a major Disney release, especially at a time when other animation studios like Hanna Barbera were churning out extremely shoddy artwork in favor of quantity.
I never thought there's too many plot holes in Episode 1 but this cartoon got me into comic books besides G. I. Joe, Transformers, Visionaries and Centurions.
Being a child of the 80s was the best time ever. We had great cartoons before we went and played ball in the neighborhood streets. There will never be a time so care free ever again. I feel sorry for today's kids.
Granted... this show is a 23-minute commercial. But this cartoon was my white whale as a kid. We didn't get it locally, so I had to scour the channels every time I want to my grandma's, hoping to find it. It never caught on like GI Joe or Transformers, but it was pretty sweet (and so were the toys).
robotech was a another cool one, also hard to find on tv, probably the coolest of the cool toys imo. way deeper plot than most of these cartoons, dont get me wrong, i loved mask too
The music in cartoons back then was just epic. Theme is worthy of being played in a stadium, the incidental music underlying the action is a-rockin' and has it's own personality distinct to the show you're watching ...
Born in 76 and this has brought me back in time. Getting off the school bus and going to a friend's house who had cable to watch this was a must. I think it came on the USA channel...good times
My kids didn't think I was telling the truth about this show lol They also didn't believe me about Turbo Teen either. These shows and Inhumaniods were my favorite growing up. Thanks for the upload
Oh, I wish that hollywood would make a live action movie based on mask. Transformers & G.I. Joe have already made their live action movies. I'm gonna watch it immediately, if it comes out. Being an 80's kid myself, I really loved watching cartoons and collecting their toys.
Wow! This brings back so many memories! It’s just like when I was a kid watching this but so much older. The quality is exactly the same and the feelings too.
I used to watch the show and make MASK vehicles and characters out of Legos afterwards. I'd take off the yellow haeds of the characters and replace them with lego bits, which would be their helmet. Those were super fun times, just messin around and making fun stuff :)
IMDB lists Cliff Dagger holding a remote as a goof because it was later revealed he wasn't controlling the UFO. But the novelisation reveals the remote control was used to create a distraction setting off car horns and lights, but this scene was not included in the final cartoon. No doubt to keep the run time short.
It’s funny Matt Trakker has a secret elevator that takes him to an underground subway. Kind of reminds me of the original Voltron and how they got to there lions.
I think the elaborate-way-to-get-to-awesome-vehicles trope started in the 60s with Gerry Anderson’s Thunderbirds. Japanese anime started to run with it soon after. Voltron was late to the game.
She wakes up in unfamiliar surroundings, wearing different clothes (can’t believe she was wearing that outfit under the radiation suit) being watched by a stranger, and she never questions who changed her clothes 😂 gotta love the 80s 😂😂
I grew up in the 90s but we had loads of reruns of older cartoons on Cartoon Network. Used to watch M.A.S.K, Centurions, COPS, classic Scooby Doo, original Transformers etc.
It literally just dawned on me that the purpose or maybe the accidental bonus of the masks let the animators not have to animate mouths to the dialogue lol
To me, MASK suffered the same problem Transformers G1 did ... the good guys far outnumbered the bad guys so they never seemed like they were at a disadvantage and fighting an uphill battle.
Matt Trackers seen in the intro. is awesome! He doesn’t flinch he doesn’t move and just expects the helmet to land on him correctly. I realize it was a cheaper way to do the but it still looks awesome!
This was such a great show that holds up today. Thank you! Too bad the owners of the property never gave us new toys based on these classic designs. What a missed opportunity.
I just got chills! This was my favorite cartoon when i was a kid. I had the motorcycle that turned to a helicopter i really wanted the black badguy truck
