First season has a perfect balance of a sport drama from back in the day, it has gritty realism, kids acting like kids struggling with growing up, and comedy relief without dishonoring the legacy characters' personalities.

I broke down after the first 2 episodes and did the youtube red.

It's actually an interesting thing with society, how it swings. In the 80s things were arguably too aggressive, but now they're too soft. So in the 80s, Miyagi style was desperately needed to soften the hard edge, but what is needed now is a whet stone to sharpen the edge in the form of Cobra Kai. They're symbolic of general life philosophies. One teaches self reliance, attack, be ruthless when needed. These are very important in life in order to succeed. But the other teaches tolerance, defence, and reliance. These are ALSO important in life to help everyone around you (like friends and family) succeed. The problem is if you go too far in the harsh side, nobody succeeds and you make nothing but enemies. While if you go too far to the soft side, nobody succeeds *because* everyone "succeeds" (think Participation awards, removal of competition) and nobody is harsh enough to elevate themselves. In monetary terms, Cobra Kai alone leads to one guy super rich guy atop a pile of poor guys. But Miyagi leads to everyone being slightly wealthier in the short term then everyone being poor together. But if you have both, you have more people striving for success and everyone is slightly wealthier. Of course, money is just an analogy in this. It's more about society as a whole. It is why politics swings between the two major parties every 15 years, because people start seeing the negative impact of too much control by one side of the yingyang equation while the positives start disappearing. People intrinsically know this and so start going the other direction. Politics is just another general example. It happens elsewhere; coursework vs exams, nature vs nurture, order vs freedom. Etc.

After 5 season's I still watch this on RU-vid. Season 1-2

My son and I started watching this series because they grew up on the Karate Kid movies. This series has not disappointed. Man I loved the 80's movies and music. I was 15 when the first movie came out. Its still a great movie to watch. Rocky meets Bruce Lee. :)
