Kreese may not have been a good guy back in the 80s, but I still love this scene: his top student taking a key lesson of his training to heart and using it to redeem his Sensei who has gone astray. Beautiful.
If this series ends with Kreese and Danny hugging and forgiving each other, and it’s convincing… … … then these will be the greatest writers of all time.
Kreese is atleast more of a father figure for Johnny and not an asshole in the Cobra kai series, unlike Johnny's Rich step dad. He ain't perfect either, but in some ways he always cared about Johnny and it shows
@@geraldhooks1337 Yeah. The way they fleshed out his PTSD gives him a lot more humanity, and doesn’t excuse his past actions but it does at least give context. Even Karate Kid III, despite making him a violent spiteful asshole again did at least show him as a very lost and broken person.
I miss the vibes of Season 2. There were so many intimate, slice of life moments like this. It didn't try to be so crazy and over the top like it was in Season 5
Once Netflix took over, the whole show had a different more generic feel to it. The first 2 season were similar in feel, then as the seasons went on it just got more cheesy. Still very good nonetheless.
@@ryankenealy4837 I think S3 onwards feels more "generic" because starting from there, the show has clear villains being Kreese and Silver while S1-2 was mostly about how there was no good nor bad within Daniel and Johnny which made the show engaging (not to say it isn't now). Even if the show stayed with RU-vid Premium, the show would've likely turned out the same.
Johnny gave an inch and Kreese took a mile. Kreese had an opportunity to start over with Johnny and chose to repeat his mistakes instead of learning from them. He tried to run his my way or the highway on Johnny and the latter's students and that put him back at rock bottom.
Kreese also had a violent teacher He lost his mother, he lost his girlfriend he was being bullied in his Work , he went mad in the War he lost his friend, he was in a cage he killed his teacher
In my opinion, this was all just another ploy by Keese to soften Johnny up because he figured Johnny wanted to find out where Kreese really lives. And honestly, 1. How can an old man even survive 10 years in a homeless shelter when John Kreese is. And 2. why can he still fight so well after more than 30 years and even better than in the 1980s and with such a sad past you can arouse pity in almost everyone. That was just part of his long thought plan to take over Cobra Kai again. He himself said that instead of hibernating, the snake just hibernates and is just waiting to strike back. Kreese had either successfully fooled the psychologists and was back in the army, or he might have been working undercover as a mercenary. COBRA KAI NEVER DIES!!!
Yep but there's some hints of truth in his lies. I think Kreese was telling the truth when he said he went downhill and volunteered to enlist in the army but due to failing a psyche eval, the army wanting fresh blood, Kreese's psychopathic tendencies/mental illness, he's far far from what the army wants so Kreese went on a downward spiral. And after Cobra Kai reopened under Johnny, well he saw that as the chance to not only be in charge again but to become Cobra Kai's sensei again and to get revenge on Daniel LaRusso.
I would also argue that John Kreese is only _seemingly_ a better fighter now. In his prime, however, which is to say as we see him in KK1, both Johnny and Daniel of today in Cobra Kai would've had to work _significantly_ harder if they wanted to even _stand a chance_ of taking him down.
This all falls apart when Kreese goes to punch someone and the tendant comes into the room and asks Kreese if he wants to go back onto the streets. Which means Kreese was at such a low the guy was living without a home for a period of time.
I belieave what happened was he went through alot of shitt where he kept telling himself to not have any mercy but he realized in the end to not let the bad things turn your heart so cold to not let it get the best of you he did change because of the war and the woman he loved but I'm glad he changed for johnny.
@@tonyhawksproskater2406 On the contrary, because he lost half his money and his company, the last thing he needed was for him to lose his best friend...
I expected this because of the man kreese is in the films but even Johnny was willing to give him a chance of redemption. Johnny was a student kreese cared about the most before Tory even if he had a fucked up way of showing it. He blew this one chance of redemption that Johnny was willing to give him. Even if kreese wants to sincerely redeem himself in the final season I doubt johnny will agree to it. I don’t know if they will give kreese a redemption arc or not during the final season this show is full of surprises and surprising villains redemptions. They even made Mike Barnes a remorseful character in the show and he was more brutal out of all of the opponents Daniel has ever faced.
"You know how those Handshake deals are". Johnny learned that unfortunately. Also, at 1:00 Kreese was talking about Terry Silver offering him a job....he declines it because he says it felt like a handout.....yet in Season 4 he plays that guilt card all the time to get stuff from Silver.
Why don’t they ever bring any of Johnnys friends like Bobby, Tommy or Dutch back into Kreese’s story. Like they should be relevant to Kreese’s story just like Johnny is
I’ve wondered the same thing. And I think the basic reason is is, there’s just no room for any more characters or storylines after season two the characters and subplots got out of control season five was a perfect example of trying to cram too many characters and subplots into one season.
They're living their own lives and doing their own thing that's realistic. Also the show already became over the top last thing we need is them coming back and trying to fight in the karate wat against kreese
Funny i searched for this scene after watching the first six epsiodes of Season 6. Wonder if there is any arc redemption for Kreese and understands Johnny was the best thing to ever happen to him. Tune in later on for the next episodes. It will get shitshow before it gets better
