Selecting a leather sewing machine can be challenging whether you are a first time buyer or have years of experience. Doing the proper research to insure that you get the best possible machine to do the job you need it to do takes time and patience.
We recently took some time to visit with the folks at Maker's Leather Supply so that we could help you answer some questions on some of the machines that they offer.
Maker's Leather Supply deals in machines for the leather industry by Leather Machine Co. These machines offer the industry's best quality and customer support hands down.
I have been using the Cobra Class 4 sewing machine in my shop for right at 2 years now and I couldn't be happier with its performance and the support I have gotten when I have had questions or concerns.
In this video, Aaron and I visit about some of the different options available as well as our opinion on buying your first machine if you are at that point in your Leathercraft journey.
Take the time to check out what Maker's Leather Supply has to offer in machines from Leather Machine Co. Also, check out their full line of leather, supplies and tools for all things leathercraft.

just picked up a a class 26, great machine, and the smaller thread capacity is great for oil and chrome tanned leather. I already own a class 4 and that thing is a beast

Thanks guys you make me feel better! Bought a barely used class 3 first, now bought a smaller for small projects. Wiring and insulating my new building as we speak! Great project during this worldwide shutdown

Thanks for the video Don. I had a juki flat bed. I used it to sew Rip Stop nylon for kites and seat belt webbing. it was a go or stop. So i love having the servo motor on the cowboy 4500. A little heavy duty for the lighter leather but with finesse can make it work.

Nice information Don. I have a class 4 and a class 20. That combo seems to work well for me. I also have the np4 bell skiver. All of the machines are great quality and will definitely outlast me! A splitter would be really handy at times but not enough to justify it in my shop at this time. Thanks again!

The reason for a flatbed is flat support of larger material

I bought a flatbed techsew 1460 and I wish I bought a cylinder arm machine I wish I did but it definitely makes you think out of the bag it does less things then a cylinder and when you do bags you come at it from a different angle but I'm glad i bought new I only wish I bought a cylinder machine with the flat bed Attachment best info given to a new owners if you can buy new and learning your machine 100 percent only helps you and it will show in your leather work

Hey Don! Thanks for the video! I'm getting ready to buy a sewing machine and this Cobra 26 looks awesome. However I've also had my eye on the Tech Sew 2750 pro. It seems from the videos I've been watching that it is comparable to the Cobra 26 but the Cobra is a standing machine were the Tech Sew come with a table you can sit at. Any comments / considerations about this and input on what you think when looking at how to choose between these two machines. Appreciate you and all you share!

What do you think about the King Cobra 4 - 25 with electronic positioning system? Also do you know anything about Cowboy machines, are they any good?

I use a Class 4 for about everything, even though it's not always the best at doing what I need at the moment. I'm at that stage of looking at adding a 2nd lighter machine. Been thinking about a Juki 1530N? I think, or a class 18, but I've also been considering a post bed 5110? because we're getting more in to the bag world. I'm occasionally doing holsters and heavy stuff with 277 thread but more wallets, collars, and bags.

I’m saving to buy a Cobra 26. I’ve been using an old Consew 206rb, for years. I’m ready to upgrade. One question I have is being able to fit while sewing. What type of chair and how high( I’m 5’2”)

i wish that i could try one of these machines out before i were to buy one. the problem is in New Jersey area there is not many people that has these machines. I might have to take a trip to Texas or something to test it out.

I have the Class 4 but I can't get it to make a good looking back stitch...
@redd2334
@redd2334 4 года назад
1. Make sure your needle is not turned in it’s seat. A little turn counterclockwise can help, but too much will cause missed stitches. 2. When going from forward stitches to back stitch, give the lever a good push so it stops solidly at the max for the stitch length. 3. Be sure you’re starting your back stitch when the needle has already come up from the last stitch at least .25”. 4. Check to be sure your thread isn’t twisting too much after sewing for a bit. 5. Thread tension matters. Be sure that both of your upper tensioners are set to work together and that your bobbin tension is set to work with them. If these won’t fix your issue, you can adjust your material prior to allowing the needle to penetrate your material again. The problem with doing this is inconsistent stitch length. Finally, take it slow. The issues I’ve had with my class 4 have all been due to me seeing too quickly. This has worked for me, can’t say it’ll work for you, but worth a shot.
