Good vid, I followed the instructions from Cobra and watched the video as a follow along. Good to get the visual walkthrough on certain parts. PSA for anybody wondering, they’re LOUD… videos do not do them justice be prepared 😂

It isn’t too bad. I had a hard time loosening the bracket where it holds on the stock exhaust. Then make sure not to over torque the nuts on the motor. You definitely don’t want to snap one of those. Then I would also recommend replacing the copper gaskets. Hope that help as well.

Dustin. My son and I completed the Cobra slash down exhaust install this afternoon. I don’t know what we would have done without your video. We followed it step by step. At the end, we had a terrible time getting the bottom end cap/slash down piece installed. It was really tight. It took like an extra hour to get the holes to line up to get the screw in. If any other Shadow owners out there want to tackle this project, this video is a must. Thanks again Dustin!

I am so happy to hear that this video helped you out! I too had troubles getting the tips in. I had to use a rubber mallet to get them in! It helps to keep the heat shields loose until the tips are on as well. I am at least glad you were able to get some useful tips from the video! What do you think of the sound and performance of the exhaust?

You’re welcome. Glad it helped you make your determination of what you would like to do! The baffles in the stock exhaust had already been removed prior to installing the Cobras. So if you want to go back prior to hear what it sounds like, that would give you an idea. It makes it louder, but does make it kind of “tinny” sounding and no performance increase. Changing the exhaust increased the power a bit, and doing the carb and air box changes gave it even more. Thanks for watching!

cool pipes. my only thing i personally dont like about the pipes are the heat shields. i have a 2022 shadow. and i've already heat wrap my pipes. while ripping off my heat shields, i discovered there are mounting brackets that are factory welded to the pipes. now i have the little bumps in the exhaust where the shield brackets were. they look like i painted over a cockroach when it comes to the heat wraps. and thats what i say to people
@TWOWHEELD
@TWOWHEELD 3 месяца назад
Yep, they have a spot for the hose clamp to attach the heat shield to the pipe. You could grind that down if it were bothersome, and then wrap the pipes and it would be less noticeable. Just a thought. You just want to not go too deep, and protect areas from the sparks. The pipes sound great in my opinion. Made a big difference on the bike! Thanks for watching and commenting!

If you have some nitrile gloves, throw those on as well. It will make wiping everything down before you fire it up much easier! As far as other tips, just take your time and have fun with it. I had to cut out some cussing and swearing. 😂 I would leave the best shields loose until you have the tips installed. I had to go back and loosen the shields to be able to get the tips on. Two questions, my bike sounds and runs amazing after installation so do i need to install a Jet kit and which stage ? and also, after about 8 minutes pipes get super hot, like you could literally fry an egg on it in under 2 minutes, is that normal ? Thanks dude.

Glad the video was able to help you out! Yeah, the pipes will get hot. It may change the way the bike runs a little bit. There is always mixed answers on whether you need to rejet or not. I ran the bike for a year before doing anything additional and it ran just fine. I have since put a stage 2 jet kit in and removed the snorkel box and added a K&N air filter. I did a video on what was done as well. Hope that helps answer that question a little.

@@TWOWHEELD Excellent brother. thanks so much for the info, super useful. Yeah, Mine starts without the choke in this current warm weather, the throttle is so responsive that it feels like a racing bike and the sound is insanely clean and loud. Some say you don’t need to change the jets unless you change the airflow. Changing the exhaust does change the air back pressure. If you change the jets, I would consider changing the air flow as well. You could have it tuned by a professional. I am definitely not a professional, only sharing what I did and what worked for me. @TWOWHEELD
@TWOWHEELD Год назад
There is always mixed answers to this question. I initially changed out the exhaust without doing anything in addition. I ran the bike for over a year that way with no issues. There were some “pops” from time to time, but nothing major. Then, last year, I changed the jets in the carburetor to a Stage 2 jet. The snorkel box for the air cleaner was also removed and a K&N air filter was added to increase air flow. If you have a newer fuel injected Shadow, it would be almost the same situation. Either run it and try it with just the exhaust, or just plan to put some kind of fuel management system on and change out the air filter. That’s where it gets to be mixed answers. If you are changing the air flow, you need a tuner, if it’s just exhaust, it’s the 50/50 answer. Hope that helps some.

No I didn’t change the copper gaskets. They looked good when I took them off. But now I’m thinking of buying some and just changing them, and also doing a rejet. I have the same bike as you

@@albertovalencia2752 changing the jets would allow you to also change the air box and open up some good airflow and power. At some point, I plan to do the same thing.

I have a 08’ shadow spirit. Would your exhaust fit my bike?

I’m not entirely sure, but I believe it would. It should work for many model years, as I think the entire setup hasn’t changed on these bikes for a long time.

do you need a tuner on it with the cobra exhaust?
@TWOWHEELD

I have upgraded the jets in the carburetor and changed the air cleaner to enhance the over all performance since this video. If you have fuel injection, I would look at getting a tuner if you change out the pipes. Then you can put a new air box on as well to let it breath.

@@TWOWHEELD sounds good thank you. just didnt want to spend the extra 300-400 on a tuner after spending 700-800 on the pipes.

@@jonathanzucco7728 yeah… upgrades get spendy! The tuner is just going to help give you the proper air and fuel mixture, so long term you won’t have any issues. Plus it will help the power and probably the sound some as well.
