This song has been in the set list for a few of my series'.. but I always backed out, because my heel-toe double bass technique was never quite fluid and controlled enough yet to do this song as well as I want to. Obviously this time around, I tried it :) This song has some really cool double kick patterns, and I wouldn't even CLOSELY be able to play them without the heel toe technique. I know some guys totally slay with singles.. I don't. I suck at singles.
This video also features the first picture-in-pucture usage of the Footcam in this series. I've been staying away from that recently (I figure you guys know HOW I do the double now, so there's no real need to keep showing you..) but this song just had a few patterns that were too tasty to pass up.. HAD to cut to the Footcam :)

He is awesome and people need to stop hating on this young gentle men. Whether he originates mix his own flares or what ever. At the end of the day he does an outstanding job and it is not an easy task to play the drums never mind hitting the same beets a professional band drummer does. Great Job Cobus!!!!

Thats why you make your own sound. And perfect that style and continue to do so until your unique. That's what makes every drummer good is how they drum and the style. Just like vocals.

Don't get me wrong, Cobus is more than talented and skilled but what I love most about watching his videos is just seeing how much feeling he puts into EVERY song. Doesn't matter what genre, he gives every song so much energy which I feel is just as important as being able to play the material.

For the record, I should say that I do like Cobus, he's part of the reason I started taking drumming seriously and because of this I like him more than just about any RU-vid drummer out there but basically nobody that is RU-vid famous is even close to the best ever. There is no 'best ever', it's all subjective because drumming is about feeling and connecting with the music and there are so many types of music which are again a person's subjective taste.

Just to make that clear: This particular cover opened up the world of pop-punk for me in 2012 and introduced this band to me especially. Though my taste in music has developed this is still my go to band to have a great time in 2018.

To clarify a little more. He records his covers in series. So that's why you'll see a lot of his covers he's wearing the same shirt because he does like 6 - 10 songs in a series. That's why there are also months apart from his cover series! :-D

He filmed most of these during the one session on the same day, and just uploads one each week. And for the covers he filmed that weren't on the same day, he wears the same clothes so the viewers won't get distracted and will pay full attention to what he's actually doing as opposed to what he's wearing. It's a common thing for people like this, David Attenborough also does this.

Not that their new stuff is bad, I just miss the insane harmonies and breakdowns and synth leads that the first album had /:

It's actually one of those fills that sound super complicated but is actually pretty simple :) it's four on the hands, and then two on the feet. It's seriously the sweetest fill because you can use it as a sixteenth note fill (which he does here) or as a thirty second note fill :) The actual combination he's doing is snare, second tom, floor tom, floor tom, bass, bass. :) four on the hands, two on the feet :)
