I saw the previews for Cocaine Bear in the theatre, it definitely got a huge reaction and laugh from the audience. The marketing team did its job well in my opinion. I will go see it!

Very much agreed. Just the combination of "Based on true events" and than the name "Cocaïne Bear" made every audience that I was in laugh.

This movie is EXACTLY what I was expecting it to be. I had a good time. It’s nice to go and see ridiculous entertainment. Not every movie has to be a big event.

That ambulance scene was amazing. Best scene of the movie! Audience went crazy for this movie. Really great time at the theatre.

Even if it isn’t that good, the fact that it absolutely understood the assignment is usually enough to entertain me. My grandparents and I will have a fun time in the theater, for sure.

I almost want to skip this film, *because*it’s directed by Elizabeth Banks. I remember the “Patriarchy,” “Toxic males, and misogyny” comments that she made, after her Charlie’s Angels film failed, miserably. Apparently, she forgot why MEN even bothered with Charlie’s Angels in the first place. Hint: it wasn’t because they loved “powerful women.”

I’m spoiled with killer bear movies by Grizzly from 1976. This was the season of Jaws where they made killer animal movies out of everything, sharks,piranha,bees,frogs…Saw Grizzly in theaters. I was 11. I covered my eyes half of the movie but now when I watch it it’s a hoot. I definitely want to see this new bear movie 🧸

Well, this does at least sound like the better of the two killer bear movies out now, the more entertaining, so guess at least it has that going for it. 😉 So, now I know if given the choice on which to watch on Streaming Services, pick Cocaine Bear over Blood and Honey. Thank you, Cody.

Saw the Evil Dead Rise new Scream movie trailers before Cocaine Bear and this felt like old days of movies just being movies and no politics. I was super happy watching Cocaine Bear. I love all the characters and each character makes them dying depressing when they add so much. I found each character had a different humor.

OK, it sounds like I will need to try to keep an open mind about the sense of humor in this puppy. But, I am basically looking forward to it! I'm going to walk in expecting something in the general vein of Sharknado, Snakes on a Plane, or Killer Grizzly, with the sense of humor of some of the gorier scenes in Robocop. I can get into that... definitely worth a few bucks. Thank you for the review!!!

I feel like you sre pretty spot-on with the review. For the most part, I thought it was pretty boring and didn’t make the most of its premise. I feel like maybe it was made to be more appealing to a mass audience. I also didn’t like how they cut away from what should’ve been the more graphic kills.

I haven't seen this yet, but I just read a scoop that I just have to ask genre fans about. Please forgive my being so far off topic. I just learned that HBOmax is developing a prequel to the recent It movies, written and directed by the same team who created the theatrical movies. I also learned in the same article that Peacock is developing a Friday the 13th series, which unlike the 1980s tv series, will be a Has n centric story. Does anybody in fandom have information about those two productions?

the pacing of this movie was a mess. it felt like it was over 2 hours long, while only clocking in at 1 hr 35 mins. you can set up human conflict and spend time on the story without bringing the movie to a screeching halt like they did

This movie delivered exactly what i was hoping it would. Was it a perfect film? Of course not lol if you're gonna break this thing down as a cinephile would, that's not fair to the movie or yourself. I smoked a bowl, turned off my cynical brain beforehand and the theater i saw it in was packed, so maybe all the stars aligned for how this movie was meant to be seen because although I noticed the obvious flaws throughout, not once did they bother me. The great scenes worked enough so the ones that didn't work got a pass from me. I gave it a 7.8/10

Just saw it last night. 30 minutes of a great premise surrounded by 60 minutes of subplots I didn't care about. It's a paradox in that it needed the cast so there were victims for the bear, but the size of the cast bloated the movie and took the focus off the bear.

Great review Cody! I did prefer this movie over Blood And Honey, but I still thought it wasn’t good. Loved seeing Ray Liotta one last time. And on other sower note: Seven years ago, on the 25th on February 2017, we lost the great Bill Paxton who died way too soon! He was great in movies such as The Terminator, The Titanic, Twister and Predator 2 but was really amazing and so freaking Iconic in Weird Science, Aliens, Tombstone, Frailty and Big Love! RIP Bill Paxton, one of my all times favourite actors and really underrated!

just got back from the theatre where i watched Cocaine Bear - i forced myself to not leave the theatre early. there is not much to it - it's got a handful of good jokes at best - there was not much of a story, and it seemed incomplete. This is far from a win for anyone involved.

I had no idea it was a comedy. I thought I was going to see a thoughtless movie about a coked out bear and people making dumb decisions trying to capture it. It was that but the fn comedy in it was hilarious. Instant classic. When that little boy said, "amateurs" and ate the coke I knew it was going to be a winner.

I also give 2.5 out of 5. Whether people like it depends much on what kind of "comedy" they are after. To me, shooting a man on the head while trying to shoot the bear is not funny. Characterization was close to zero, and that applied to all the three groups of people in the movie. Perhaps it was good that you don't know much or care about the characters, since at the end it was not even clear what happened to many of them. Did the black police officer who was shot in the stomach die? Did the female ranger survive? I had forgotten completely what had happened to one character until he appeared at the end and presumably got away with the drugs. The plot and characters seemed to have been written by a cocaine scriptwriter. I watched this thinking Elizabeth Banks was in the movie.

It was pretty good, I'm unsure why people are judging this by such a high standard. It was slocky, bloody, and downright silly at times but it didn't do anything outside of the premise it presented, which was a good thing. I would have preferred a little bit of pointless nudity and for the cocaine scene with the kids to have really gone for it... but overall I enjoyed this movie was trying something different when it just could have phoned it in. Good review though...

I can't bring myself to laugh at a bear that's gone berserk, maiming/killing, after ingesting (illegal) drugs. The parents/kids, that come along, shouldn't be there *if* that area do have such creatures in the first place! *So* could have been just the the Drug dealers alone, being stalked LOL! This movie could be fun(ny) for those who enjoy trekking and camping most probably!

Cocaine Bear was tough to get through for me. Seemed terribly long and just wasn’t as “fun” as I thought it was going to be as a cocaine fueled bear. Was ok, not sure I’d watch it again though.

Yup I was right we do have the same tastes in movies. Just got back & I agree with you the the jokes fell flat even with the audience as well. As you said weak characters, the bear stole all the scenes ambulance being the best. Actually got a bit bored in the third act. Lastly it was confused in what it wanted to be. If they had just gone the slap stick route with better jokes & awkward moments it'd of been a better film overall. Never will watch it again. Good thing I went to the matinee.
