My cockatiel lived 30 years. Some Romaine lettuce, safflower organic (and expensive) organic millet spray, water cuddle bone. He was out of his cage for most of his life and we kept his cage door open so he could go in and eat. I used basic tap water. I had to clean his water bowl everyday because in that 24 hour period the water tray had a slimy feel to it. Sometimes tap is Better than bottled water because it has more oxygen exposure. Has anyone else noticed a slimy feel (not look) to their tiel’s water tray??
Yes I do experience that as well! I’ve heard it formed due eating seeds and drinking from it. Still not sure about it but this is what I’ve found so far.
Too lucky bro my Cokutail bird is not able to walk properly from both legs he have to walk forwards by his beak help can you plz suggest me which medicine should I provide him to walk his legs again properly plz bro.
@@onlyforyou9999 I looked up based on the symptoms you have described your bird possibly has the disease known as bird ataxia. Your bird can recover. She/he must be hospitalized and will be given intravenous antibiotics and fungals for a host of reasons, unhealthy beak and feet, atrophied muscles, so I would google bird ataxia and get the cockatiel to a vet immediately
@@lisakadams3767 Thank you so much for replying so only this medicines are enough or are there any more plz suggest me and only I didn't understood is what you told about to keep my bird in vet means should I put wet cloth on his legs something like that?
Make sure to feed vegetables such as spinach and kale in moderation since they contain a high amount of nitrate, which can be dangerous to birds and small children
True. I love shredding collard greens with parsley, or broccoli and parsley or bokchoy. They love parsley and it's not bad for your bird it's one of the healthiest for your bird.💛
@@chollyappleseed1969 i was referring to smaller animals, like birds or children, whereas it is not opitmal to provide spinach in too large amounts. also, the information you just posted was from an automated google search; you are clearly very researched.
I heard that oxalic acid is in things like spinach and kale and it causes these foods to bind with calcium so you shouldn’t use these as a good source of calcium. Do you know if this is true?
My cockatiels all live long I recently lost my sweet Baby Bird he was 31 he enjoyed a waffle every morning with cellery or spinach or broccoli, corn he loved a cracker or a piece of 12 grain bread, Cheerios,He also loved cooked pasta and an occasional french fry, hard boiled egg
What should I do if my cockatiel just doesn’t really eat vegtables? When we got them they just ate seeds and because of that they don’t eat nothing but that.I continue to feed them seeds since I don’t want them to starve since the last time I gave them only veggies they just didn’t eat the entire day
I always gave them stuff they love on a certain plate, like egg and some seeds once a week, after a while I slowly started to switch the food on that plate. Now they eat basically everything what I put on there
For new bird owner's it would be great if you could as mention if these foods mentioned in the video need to be cooked or can be eaten raw, how much should you feed them.
I would love to see how you place that food in their cage, how much for a day, what, and make something like 7 days feeding my cockatiel including coocking, shopping and all.. Every video on RU-vid list items and people still don't understand, me first.
I have a hard time feeding my cockatiels any fresh fruits or veggies at all. They eat only seeds and sometimes boiled eggs. I've put carrots and lettuce in their cage for hours and they won't even go near them... tips?
My boy isn’t a big fruit lover… however, he only eats the tops of broccolini, spinach and loves carrot peel! He hated carrot chunks but loves to play with, and eat, the peeled/shaved carrot! He won’t eat grated tho, only peeled for some reason 🤷🏼♀️😂 I hope this helps!
I found the Zupreem pelleted cockatiel food has a lot of nutrients and the birds love it. It gives them the feeling they are eating seed. But my birds do like kale and other greens.
Chop it finely , layer it under some quality crumble pellets , spend some time down near the birds food bowl , they like being praised when they eat very much ! Can do a chop mix & refrigerate say every 4 days . ( my knife skills have really improved )
They will eat what they want to eat! Mine shared all I had but only had some in small amounts and she lived for over 25 years! My present one eats some things, but only what he wants and not everything on your list!
1]My cockatiel is almost two years old and he still refuses to eat fruits and vegetables! He eats lettuce, potatoes, and his seeds only. He like to eat crunchy things obviously because he get crazy if he hears someone eating chips or biscuits :( How can I deal with him?
I got my birds to try strawberries by cuttting them up and sprinkling them with lots of seeds, so they could eat the seeds on it and then started tasting the strawberry. Now strawberry is their favourite fruit. You can do the same with apple and banana slices 😊
Some things are right and some are wrong. Carrots and fruit should be given as a treat as are high in sugar. And seeds should be kept to a minimum as are high in fat, also. Sprouted seeds are healthy!
@@finchforum6466 thanks . Because i bought a 4month old male cockatiel 1 month ago and im just giving him seeds and eggs once a week and i didnt know what else should i put i got some fresh corn that im going to give him with some lettuce
Yes , that's about the right quantity to offer . They will go through it all and pick a selection . I do 1/3 teaspoon of chia seeds , then finely chopped vegies then quality crumble pellets on top . Vegi mix made fresh every 4th day . Discard what's not eaten every day , I throw it outside & wild birds are happy to consume it . Our teil was a confirmed seed only bird but not any more . Change water daily & remove greasy film from sides of water bowl
Always cooked but hope your bird is not on a rice only diet. It needs more than that.. bright colored and dark green leafy veggies. Never lettuce, gives them diarrhea 💩
my 'tiel has free roam . not caged. but he has got choosey about fresh fruit and veg. he want warm soft foods, like mashed potato, baked beans, boiled egg, warm chicken. even curry andrice. barely will eat a green thing at all. except celery and dill, and even those not daily. i have spoiled him with human food? ihave i let him live too much how he wants to live? he came to me with broken wings and i was told he wopnt ecver fly. but he does and he can spin 180 on sixpence in the air. he do buzz cuts and is really agile. he seems happy and healthy. but how to get him eat fruits? he is one and half old. only pet in home.
yes one of his wings wont raise as high as the other. i guess that how his wing has set, but he not seem to be hampered by that.. he flies really, REALLY fast and no problem getting head height (6ft2") and then picking a landing spot and nailing it, straight off the floor. atfirst he couldn't be touched cos pain in wings and def not fly when i got him. he climb everywhere with beak and toes at first. now he think he an eagle, with waiter service.
i always let him taste my food when i eat. he shakes it out of his beak if he not like it. i dont give raw tomatoes. they far too acidic and he gets hyper noisy and what seems like irritation, for at first seemed no reason. i stopped raw tomatoes . he fine. but still slow on green foods.
i guess, i didnt read and and go about learning how to treat him by researching the internet. i avoided it actually. i didnt want to have these pre-conceived ideas and huge vets bills. i wanted him to direct his life. we each have healthy respect and he happy and sings loads and imitates all kinds of household appliances. tells me when the microwave have beeped or the kettle has boiled. reminds me to stir my tea (teas spoon against china cup is very attractive noise for him, so he anticipates it after kettle boils.) he even anticipates bathroom light and makes the noise of the pull cord switch if i leave the room whilst its dark. i think we each just live and let live and understand each other. i'll know if hes poorly. he had a rough start before i got him, caged, anxious and broken from a dealer. rejected by other customers. dealer tried make him fly. and he just bit and bit and bit. he was sore and needed a home away from a small aviary with no heat. only being able to feed from the floor or climbing all around to find the good food the other birbs flew to. he is safe and happy now. :)
Take the seeds out, let them go hungry for a little while, mix the seeds with the veggie, and then give it to them. They might gobble up the veggies along with the seeds due to hunger.
@@maple5022 Wouldn't it be more like a person eating a primate? Hell, maybe not even that. Its probably more like a person eating any mammal. Chicken and eggs are the only "people food" that my 2.5 year old female will reliably eat.
