Hey everyone, the best info that I have had was by using the Parrot Ploy Plan (i found it on google) - I found it the most useful treatment that I've tried.
Why did I watch this AFTER getting my cockatiel. Mine is EXTREMELY LOUD. Especially in the morning. He wakes me up too early in the morning, and then I can't sleep anymore. Though I still love my stinky bird.
I saw this after experience with a cockatiel. He's a good boy. He's pied and looks like a girl last I saw him but he sounds male. I said this on the other video, but he's a loud fluffy friend
a tip to keep them quiet: Turn down your own noise. If you’re a person who loves loud tv and you want a cockatiel, maybe turn it down a notch so your cockatiel can feel safe.
Haha I sometimes don't get people - The first time I met budgies and cockatiels was at my bfs moms house. We were sleeping in the big living room where both cages were. They were annoyed by the sounds of their new pets and me and my bf woke up and I remember telling him "holy this sounds like spring" We both woke up so happy and rested and everything was just so lively and beautiful with their chirps. His family ended up giving all the birds to us since they were too annoyed and we love it. The only time it wakes me up is when something unusual happens - if they get scared or "hysteric". Don't be scared of their noises - In my opinion : you'll get used to it. Having birds in your sleeping room is not the best idea so make sure you have a room for them (maybe living room or maybe their own room). Also make sure your neighbors aren't annoyed as well - if you have any.
@@blehblehbleh2714 they can lose a lot of feather dust, and their litter too. It increases the risk for allergies and its not the best for your lungs. Nothing bad with it if you clean, air the room and vacuum everyday. It's stressy and loud for the birds and stressful for the human. That's why most people recommend to not keep them in the bedroom
Also another reason why not to have the bird cage in your room. They need 10-12h of sleep. Watching television and doing other activities in the same room as them interrupts their sleep. Many hormonal problems arise from this. Lack of sleep can also be the reason why a parrot acts cranky - just like a human person who didn't sleep enough. Many suggest having a sleep cage. I suggest to do some research on that. Hope this helps!
I love my cockatiel but was not prepared for how much she screams oh my god. She's 7 and is forever making noise. Can't have her in an apartment because she's so loud. You won't be able to sleep in. Won't be able to leave a room without them calling for you. Please don't get one unless you're prepared lol.
My cockatiel is very loud up to the point that his sound rings in the hear when he perches on my shoulder. He is a baby bird and learning how to sing. He practices it in the morning while he mixes with screams. Another advice can be: Never teach some stupid tunes. They are only cute in occasional YouDupped videos. Think about listening to happy birthday tune every day over twenty years. Whatever it is, cockatiels are NOT a song bird. They are not that good at mimicking human voices as seen in those videos. Additional factors would be dealing with poops and extreme clinginess. Once they bond with you, they will never leave you alone. You become a member of the flock or the gang. If I am not in my bird’s sight even in a split second, he screams and chases after me. No more long vacations away from home, I guess. However I still love this little bird even in his most mischievous moment.
Your cockatiel is very pretty. He looks like the 1st one I ever had. It's hard to find one that looks like him these days. My boy was very good. When I'd get up in the morning, I'd walk into the front room to find him swinging happily on his swing while whistling the theme song from the Andy Griffith show. Besides whistling, he was quiet enough to where I often didn't notice him chirping unless I was listening back on my phone recorder. My next was a female. She was sweet until she became a chronic egg layer and was so protective of her infertile eggs that she'd chase after me each time I walked by her cage. I found her a home in hopes she'd have the chance to be the mother she wanted to be. But I don't remember her being loud. Then I got the sweetest female who loved sitting on my shoulder and watching me clean house. She didn't scream much unless I left the room, but I know she could be loud if she wanted to be because I could hear her way out by the mailbox with the windows closed. Do you think your cockatiel's morning calls are loud? The one I have now is a female who only does the same very high pitched note very loudly and constantly from morning to night. She doesn't stop. It's not that she wants my attention. She wants to come out of her mansion filled with toys so she can chew the leaves off my artificial trees I've had for 25 years. She'll even constantly scream loudly while she's eating and acting very happy in her cage. My poor neighbors must hear her, yet they haven't said anything. I can handle 3 hours at the most before my ears, head and stomach can't take anymore and then I have to either put her in a small cage in a different room, or go in a different room myself. She even sounds loud when I'm downstairs. It's a case of can't live with her but can't live without her. I would feel so empty and lonely without her, yet I don't think I can handle listening to this everyday constantly for the rest of my life. I can't find answers in any videos. If anyone has good suggestions, please share them so I don't have to give her away.
Never forget these birds live for up to 30 years, so it's not a decision to be taken lightly. These birds can be destroyed by losing a family they get close to, and may never be the same. A lot of places like apartments, collage, and even some neighborhood associations and condos don't allow birds. Even if where you live now does, where you end up a decade from now might not. You become their flock, and they bond usually strongly with one person. To lose that is to lose their reason to go on for a lot of these birds. Be prepared for a strong commitment in bringing a cockatiel into your life. In some cases it will be more life changing and a longer commitment then some people view marriages! 😆
Females tend to be more quiet, and the bird isn't even that loud in the first place. I've always wanted a bird and I finally convinced my parents to get me one, but they want a quiet bird that doesn't scream all the time. Hahaha I'm in danger once they find out this cockatiel thing isn't how I described it
I don't know what's going on with mine, they scream at everything all the time. You can see in my videos that they lack NOTHING! I HAVE to sit all day on the couch and look at them, going to the loo ends in a scream fest, the blinds must be down all day or else they'll scream at... the clouds? The gras? I don't know tbh And I'm not talking about tiny cockatiel screams as you'd expect, they do ear drum ripping toddler decibel shrieks till their voice cracks. For now I've loaded their cage with foods and toys and rolled them into another room. Mom seriously needs a break 😂 Meanwhile in the morning and evening: 🦗🦗🦗🦗 Edit: What does seem to work is talking to them in a really annoying high pitched voice. I don't like that since I'm a low volume person who only talks when asked something but at least they calm down when I do it 😂
I have a cockatiel and I might rescue a sun conure but anyways when my cockatiel is at his loudest it is sorta loud but other birds are so much louder.
Heidi Garrison Cockatoos are loud! They sound like they came from hell lol and I decided not to get the sun conure because I found a green cheek conure instead. I got her about last week and she is absolutely amazing. I can handle the noise level of all conures.
My female is quite noisy while in her cage but once out, she's quiet as long as I'm in the vicinity. Do they get quieter as they get older? Mine is only 6 months old.
Thank you for making this video, after much research, today's the day we go to a breeder to adopt a baby one of these for my 17yr old boy (who swears he'll spend time and take care of it)...I"m looking forward to it as well, this was very informative.
This is so true. I have 4 budgies and they wake me up. 6:30, every. Single. Morning. They can get pretty annoying. (Kinda wish i had gotten a cockateil lol)
Yeah I have budgies a cockatiel a green cheek conure and a lovebird. Budgies are naturally noisy but not loud compared to a cockatiel, lovebird and green cheek conure. Cockatiels actually can get kinda loud depending on what you think is loud. I have a male cockatiel so he is louder and noisier than a female. My cockatiel sings these weird funny songs and he does it often some parts of his “songs” can get loud. Every bird is different but if you get a male cockatiel it probably won’t be a difference in when and how much they scream.
Yeah if ya have those big birds you cannot wear any jewelry while handling them as they are attracted to shiny things plus they are considered as toys to them so your likely to get nipped in the process of them trying to snatch it.
Cockatiels are loud? Im a cockatiel owner and yes, they are but ringnecks are on ANOTHER LEVEL, im already going crazy with rios morning scream sessions, im never getting a conure or ringneck because ill have brain damage within a few days
I wish I had seen your video before buying mines. Seriously, most threads in forums people say "oh this is not a big deal, you can deal with it, it's fun to have in the house" FUCK NO ! They scream, squawk non-stop ALL THE TIME. You can't even think around a cockatiel, impossible to work around. Most of that screaming is just baseless screaming, there is no reason for it other than they feel like it. They will be perfect birds for a 1 month then suddently 3 months of hell where the birds seems to scream for you but free or not will never stop screaming every 5 seconds.
Hey I am used to cockatiels My bird screams when the sunlight is there and when I cover the cage where the light in the cage is not bright the bird stops and be happy And night time the bird needs good lighting or it wood chirp as it is a male
Be warned, Cockatiels are VERY territorial birds and are one of the known birds to be called Bully Birds. They are often known to even bully birds like the American Macaw which are triple their size showing no concerns for the consequences. If they get so territorial, they will relentlessly target & attack a bird regardless where they are until the bird is dead. I came back home from work one day to a bloodbath like outta a horror movie where my cockatiel viciously attacked my Sun Conure until he nearly bled to death with blood all over the cage & walls which thankfully I got him taken care of to full recovery (though it took weeks to heal) & they are in separate cages. My conures legs were chewed by the cockatiel so badly that you couldn't even recognize it. My conure used to just take the abuse until after so many years he finally started nipping back at my cockatiel in defense until he got bored of attacking him.
Even when my cockatiel is out of the cage I saw him fly & land on my conure's cage & try to chase him down then attacking him again. Had to physically grab him as he wouldn't fly away from the cage and put him back in his cage to avoid further attacks only to get viciously bitten bringing the blood. We have had them in groups before without too many issues with bullying/attacks being short to none & being very friendly & affectionate birds but this one was not one of them. Keep a sharp eye on them to avoid this & know that even with early & even years of working with them cockatiels cannot always be tamed.
My 2 cockatiels are loud at times, but luckily we live in a very old house with thick brick walls. Our 'tiels were actually bought, from a place that kept a lot of exotic birds in the same size cage my 2 'tiels have for themselves now. I do think that the private owned pet shop was doing an okay job though, they just happened to have an overflow of birds at the time and had to put them somewhere. We drove 2 hours over just to get these birds from that locally owned store (not a brand pet store), to support local businesses. I had been searching for cockatiels in need of adopting prior to this, but found none at the time, so we figured buying from this smaller place would be the best option :)
I have a question I’ve had budgies before and I know how to take care but I had 2 budgie but since I wanna get a cockatiel I only want one but I have school from 7:40 to 2:20 so should I buy one ??
Gamer 1 I might be getting a cockatiel soon and I’ve done research. They should be fine left alone as long as they have fresh food and water and toys. It’s also good to leave the radio on and put them by a window so they can look outside
@@wankkstain true they will be fine but they won't be happy, imagine being left alone all day with no attention, if you have school (unless it's homeschool like me) you should have 2 birds which has its downsides but unless you want a sad but it's for the best.
Depends! Are there family members or roommates around? If not, you could adopt an older cockatiel that likes to nap while you’re gone and will be ready to play when you return home.
hey , so , i was thinking about buying a cockatiel , but i don't have a special free room , could i put his cage in my room ? also , i m scared to annoy my , neighbors because apparently they are loud , i mean , when i play ukulele and sing , they don't complain , i m really confused .
I have a cockatiel and he loud and annoying. We had a love bird for nearly 20 years and adored her. This cockatiel is not a good choice but he is a good watchdog. Don’t think about sleeping late with this breed.
Hello. Thank you so much for this grreat video. I was on the verge of getting a cockatiel, but I'm in two minds now, as i haveI very thin walls in my flat, and I really wouldnt like to upset my neighbours. Most of the videos I"ve watched dont really highlight the aspect of potential noise..so Im v v grateful to.you for producng this video!. Still totally enamoured by these amazing little birds. But dont want to buy one then end up having to give him.up.like so so many unwanted birds in.animal sanctuaries alll over the world. Big thank you😊best wishes x
Elise G good luck with the decision! I think that sometimes female cockatiels can be quieter than male cockatiels. If Larry Bird and I lived in a flat, I think ALL my neighbors would know just from the noise in the morning!
Of course a video doesn't do it justice but their sound will echo between the walls. It can get annoying. I lived with cockatiels for a couple of years and still react when I hear it. It's like music you've listened to too many times. I like their sounds but not the flock calls. Then my memories go back and I think "shut up". They are adorable creatures who deserve the best. That's why I don't get them. Ironically the neighbor's dog just started howling because she went out. Animals are demanding.
Many people have a bird and a dog and they get along! You just have to be careful that the bird is not out of the cage near the dog; because the puppy might playfully bite the bird and that could be fatal to the bird. Good luck!
I just love it when there's noise in my house, it gets lonely without those ear piercing noises...... I have Parakeets and Lovebirds for now and since I am already good with smaller parrots I would get a bigger one like a Cockatiel or a Conure.
adityaleo1 check out A Helping Wing (ahelpingwing.org/). If they are too far away from you, they may have suggestions of other bird shelters closer to you! Good luck!!
I got a cockatiel from a petshop, he is young around 5-6 months, missing toes and has some (vets think) neurological issue that makes his head shake and spin around sometimes. all that has been conformed safe and not a danger to him. i kinda wanted a loud bird to sing and dance but he seems to just walk about and says nothing he shouts every now and then so its not like he cant speak anyone know wats up with him maybe a way to get him to say something? caz vets don't know why he's so quiet
I have a question, I heard that cockatiels can be very noisy and I was ok with that. Now I have a Cockatiel and he is still young but he doesn’t make much noise. He’s extremely quiet in the morning and throughout the day he random may chirps but nothing loud and constant. He’s a pretty quiet bird, but my house is really quiet too. Is it just him or bc he’s still a baby. Will he get more noisy as he gets older?
You want yours to be loud 😂 that’s crazy but it’s probably because your bird is still new to you and is getting used to it’s environment, they will get more noisy and chatty as they grow.
Aiden G I’m not necessarily wanting him to be loud, tho I do think they’re super cute when they whistle (and talk tho it’s not super common) . I was just wondering if it was normal and if I should prepare myself for how loud he might be when he gets older, if that happens. Also he’s pretty used to me I’ve had him for a month and he seems to have bonded to me pretty fast. He flies across the room to be with me sometimes and is becoming a mess with how much he loves to chew on my stuff 😂 he also loves to explore my room now so I think he’s adjusted and pretty used to me. That’s why I was asking about the noise level
I bought a baby bird. He only made the sound of dinosaurs (begging for food) for a couple of weeks. But no screaming. After he got used to the environment and the people, he started singing and screaming. So wait until he is ready to go.
Apparently not a need about birds if you were the cage would NOT be so fricking small. Tour birds is ofc unhappy When He or She can’t move in the god Damn cage!!!!! It’s way too small and YES YOUR BIRD IS SCREAMING BUT BC YOUR BIRD DOESNT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WHEN YOU LEAVE AND IT HAS NO TOYS AND CANT MOVE SO NO!!!!!
Great info! Thanks for sharing! Jesus loves you! I believe Macaws, Cockatoo & other very long lived birds should be illegal to sell as babies. They go thru 10-30 homes in their lifetime. There are more homeless parrots in rescues than dogs & cats! Adopt- don't shop! Thanks again for informing the good, the bad & the ugly of the truth of owning birds. They are wonderful, but are a lot of work and require a whole lot of time & bonding! I love my cockatiel, he's my best bud (he is loud!) & I am blessed to be able to stay home with him everyday. God Bless you! Keep up the videos!
