To those who are asking where this is happening. It's in the inner northern suburbs of Sydney, Australia. Sulphur crested cockatoos are highly social and very intelligent. Even wild ones like these easily learn to take food from somebody's hand and with patience they will learn to like a scratch under their wings. City birds like these might have several homes they visit at different times of day.
This is Australia? Looks beautiful. I went to Perth and that looked a lot more like California than Brazil. And I don'tmean Brazil as in shantytown I mean the rainforest.
Everyone here's saying how cute they are, I'm sitting here glaring at my own flock of wild cockies who are eyeing off my fruit trees and pot plants I have so many regulars in my garden - the crested pigeons are very sweet, my old lady bush turkey is a badass who chases off the neighbourhood cats, I get flocks of female bowerbirds and the occasional shiny blue male, territorial honeyeaters and minor birds, a new pair of magpies who have taken the territory over, a kookaburra, wood doves, and that's only the ones that actually stop by, so many more fly over (yellow tail black cockatoos that sound like old squeaky doors, lorikeets, king parrots, eastern and crimson rosellas etc). The only ones, ONLY ones, I have ever had to chase off are the bloody. Sulfur crested. Jackass. Cockatoos. ... They're too smart for their own good, I tell you. And entirely, consumingly, all too bored. ... But I'm glad you have a good relationship with your local flock XD To me they're like mob bosses. You either pay taxes (seed) or perish.
I'm absolutely jealous, mate. I wish I can visit Australia some day, not in small part because I want to see your wild birds. I was in NZ last year and had a most amazing few days hanging out with a flock of wild kea, which seem decidedly similar to cockatoos in their behaviour and intelligence.
We rented a house where the previous occupants must have fed them. Every day at about 3pm they would come knocking on the window for food. It didn't take us long to cave and feed them. In some parts of Australia you get longer in prison for feeding them than murder.
Chantilly Lace ... I have looked into it a bit further and in some places they are a menace to agriculture and can become quite viscous in their attempts to get food off people. They destroy park areas by ripping up grass roots and can cause at much mess as pigeons. But they can be quite tame and cute as well.
@Craig Wortham Not true. Birds brains may be small but have a much higher density of neurons than any mammal, even humans. This makes them incredibly smart. Dolphins does not really have to be that smart, they might just do things that makes us believe they are smarter than other animals, just like dogs (dogs are pretty dumb but we believe they are smarter than for example crows anyways even tho that mostly is not the case) If you want to see real intelligent animals you will have to look at squids, octopuses and cuttlefish, they are incredibly smart in ways we use to define as intelligence (solving mazes and problems with math for example)
Cokatoos dont usualy live in Cage, they are sometimes in one smaller room for bigger space. Its just about ppl to choose if they want them in cage or without cage
You know that too much can possibly kill them right? Small pellets and seeds aren’t good for a birds diet and I don’t think they eat it in the wild either. They’re better off having the occasional nut. ☺️
@@ema2859 I said a handful, not an overdose, Cockies main diet in the wild is seed based, their beaks & tongues are adapted over milennia to strip & eat seeds (just as a hummingbirds beaks are to flute shaped flowers) yes, nuts & bulbs are another food item but seeds are the main source, though feeding the unstriped varieties of seed retain fatty deposits in the liver so obviously people need to know what they're doing, but as i said, cockies eat these as their main food source, you might be thinking of other bird species that consume nectars.
ema ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ I know your trying to be nice and make a statement but she only said a handful not a lot. :) I have a noisy cockatoo and a amazon so they are extremely noisy :) and I sometimes feed them sunflower seeds but it’s really not there thing they prefer bigger nuts as a forager toy :D
FEELS GOOD GR that is so cool. I get excited when I see blue jays or cardinals around my place, as it's just little sparrows and other brown birds I see around.
that sounds nice, and it almost makes me want to live in Australia; then I remember all the deadly snakes and giant spiders that live in those parts and think - no.

@@lexian5602 I dont think even for a bird of this size to have the bite strength to bite off a finger. You would likely get a decent bite would though.

That was great!!! It's so nice to see this video of a flock of Cockatoos flying free in their own, natural environment rather then a lone bird standing on a perch in somebody's kitchen!
This is true but the birds that are pets have been under human care for atleast 2 generations. They are used to beimg fed by humans. If these pet birds are released they wont last a week because they dont know how to look for food
rey272031 you really wouldn't say they are used to human care. They are born and raised in captivity now so pet cockatoos in our modern times havent the foggiest clue about their wild ancestors way of life.
Not getting involved in a back and forth, but will briefly indulge. I understand your point a tiny bit, however, Cockatoos, birds, are wild animals. They are a completely different species. Therefore, logically speaking, there is not a day in-day out comparison to humans living in houses. We are a completely different species. The life of many- thousands and thousands- of Cockatoos has become a neglectful nightmare of captivity - Fact. Other birds as well. Humans must come to grips with the realization that they never had a 'right' , if I could put it that way. to do this to them. Many other wild animals too. At this point I'm ending my communication in terms of the back and forth, but just know I'm being sincere. The internet was once- many moons ago- a 'place' of hope for sharing info. So in that vein, I am responding. Take care, and adopt, don't shop! Dig it! : )
yeah and no I have a pet cockatoo and she loves me I take her outside on a 5 metre harness and she plays with the other wild cockatoos and she walks around the house looking for stuff to play with
ZeroGHome24 (imo)You have spun perspective upside-down! Interesting how you can hope to experience life on earth, in Australia...AFTER DEATH! I have, often, heard other people say : “You only live once, it’s short and you must make the most of it.”
by the way, that looks as close to heaven on earth as you could get. the view is literally taking my breath away. I feel such a strong connection to that view, something I've never felt before

Never Give Up Dear Friend they are definitely beautiful and if tame they can be extremely affectionate. But they have a very powerful beak that delivers a very painful bite. Ive seen them crack macadamia nuts . They love them.
@@mattcullen6109 i understand what you mean. But maybe if they try most calm one to feed with hand . So they can train at least one of them. Sounds good to have parrot in you shoulder like pirates:-)
@@nevergiveupdearfriend7289 😁😁 sounds awesome alright. My dad hand feeds the king parrots up home. They are also very beautiful. You are right, if you take your time and move slowly im sure you could easily hand feed these beauties after a while.like most animals, its just a matter of gaining their trust. My mate has a cockatoo at his place . It loves to sit on my arm and get scratched under the wings. I move slowly and gently and talk to her like the lady on the video did. It pants like a dog and looks up at me almost adoringly. I cant go there with give her a cuddle . Shes so beautiful.

They have the wonderful gift of flight. So lets clip their wings and put them behind bars so they can sing and dance for treats when we come home from work.
@@liggerstuxin1 - I have three parrots all of them rescues. Two were hit by cars and needed nursing back to health but due to damage would never survive in the wild and the other one was an orphan who refuses to leave me. He doesn't live in a cage and has free roam privileges in the house and most parrot owners would never dream of clipping their wings. You sound like a bitter person with an exaggerated sense of your own importance.
You know what's absolutely fascinating? Is how wild ones are different than those living in homes who can speak. It's like taking a wild human to get civilised lol
Occasionally some wild birds like these pick up sounds they hear and start using them normally, that’s how you end up with a bird that decides it wants to sound like a chainsaw every night.
fxc2 I’m speaking in general, there are birds that are so good at mimicking the sounds they hear that they will copy the sound of a chainsaw running low on power and the people speaking in the woods, there’s always one that decides to pull an all nighter to be fancy with their calls.
From my experience, birds love to be admired. They are curious creatures, but if you just sit down and look at them, they will perk up and look back at you with a little grin.
Oh...such wonderful birds....so calm amazing...just flocking from far...sitting quietly... beautiful....it's so heartwarming...n satisfying...the only thing disturbing was the noise of traffic....still the place is so beautiful. Enjoy yr life.....
m Exactly! They are free to fly and do whatever they want but they come to eat as if they belong to you.I love to see that, rather than seeing them in a cage.
Ray O they dont get up close and.personal like this with just anybody, this woman has built a trust bond with these birds, they respect her so they get close, here in US everyone hates birds in the wild, everyone runs them off instead of helping them out. America is a disgusting place to be an animal of any kind, a society of gluttonous self centered cunts that would rather their extra food rot in their nice new trashcan then feed it to any living bird.
