Very helpful videos. A friend who works for a pest control company told me "When we do apartment complexes, our goal is to get callbacks and repeat business. It's in our interest to maintain the problem for continual treatment.", and that he makes a paste with maple syrup or bacon grease and Borax when they really want to get it done. He also stated with apartment complexes, they require the tenants leaving during treatment, leaving no witnesses if they just wanna do a 15 minute job instead of a 2+ hour job. Especially if they're crunched on time and have multiple scheduled visits, especially during winter and late summer. Lastly, he said the company he works for only uses a few cheap formulas and roaches generally adapt after 2-3 treatments, so they just say "the tenant is dirty, tenant has clutter they hid in", because most landlords will happily believe every tenant is dirty before believing pest control service was lazy or cheap - especially if they're using the cheapest service available and don't wanna pay more. In such a case, the tenant gets what the landlord pays for (next to nothing), then blamed for it. Through your videos I hope to safely deal with this problem and also to understand the perspective of pest control experts and not being the tenant who's place they take one look at and say "gee, no matter what we do, this person's lifestyle will never eliminate the roaches". It takes a team between a non-cheap landlord, a strong-willed tenant willing to take every measure required, as long as required, and a good pest control individual who's having a good day and is feeling the "get it done" vibe.

I’ve run into most of what you say but personally I have to point out that it’s the label that tenants have to be out when a pest control tech is there servicing the apartment. They are just following the label is all

i live in an apartment bldg, the other tenants are happy living with roaches, I am not. the exterminator came 4 times but was ineffective. finally I bought diatemaceous earth and I sprinkled it around all the floorboards, along the back of my kitchen counter, around the fridge and stove. under my bed and so on. now I only see one occasionally as they come in from the other apartments.

Thank you Jason. I already started dusting and I put too much around my baseboards. So I will just rub it into the carpet to make it more invisible. And I wasn't using my duster upside down! I'm glad you showed I can still use my electrical box even though I apply the dust. I can't thank you enough for this. I haven't seen any bed bugs, but I get bit daily. I see their tracks on the walls and ceilings. But my landlord wont get an exterminator until he see's an actual bug! Or, he wants my doctor to confirm my bites. Impossible, the bites aren't always the same pattern! You should win an award, Jason!

You can still use your electrical box after dusting. I would wait and allow the dust to settle but it shouldn't take more than 5 minutes for settling to occur. Also I would try to dust around the box that sits in the wall....this one I used as an example was not set into sheet rock but into a panel wall. I would recommend trying to get the tip of the duster into the actual wall void rather than just around the outlet. The one outlet I used in the example did not have a wall void option though. Thank you for the kind words :)

@@GreenAkersPC I wish someone would post a controlled experiment showing the effects of DE or Borax when a roach walks through a small amount of it.

From 13:54 sound is too low. Very good video! Thank you so much! Your directions and warnings are very clear and I've decided to use an N95 mask for applications. I thought more was better, but now I know that they won't walk through it if they can see it! That's why they give you the duster with the DE, duh!

I've seen cockroaches only on my floors of my kitchen so I've applied diatomaceous earth to the floors and around appliances. I know I have it too thick so I swept it a bit into cracks, etc. Is that right? I have baits in every kitchen cabinet but haven't seen any there. I also applied some going up my stairwell and around my laundry hamper because I saw two there on separate occasions. Can you tell me where else I should apply the diatomaceous earth given what I've just explained? I've covered all my outlets with masking tape or outlet covers but did not dust behind them. How much surface area and how many outlets should I do? I'm not sure what to do, and am super freaked out.

What's the difference between diamatecous earth that's food grade which says 100% diamatecous and the insect killer one which is 85% but dosen't list the other ingredients? I wanna use it outside as per your recommendation but I've got the food grade one on me right now.

This was super helpful. I just bought food grade diatomaceous earth for the first time and was about to sprinkle it lightly around. You communicated very well that it needs to be a super light dusting in order to actually work. I am confused, though, why you have to be so very careful if you are just using a tiny amount in or near your kitchen. I completely understand why you wouldn't want to breathe it in, but I thought it wasn't toxic for mammals. When I sprinkle it on the perimiter of my house outside, do I dust just as lightly? Also, I don't have a duster and I really wanted to apply it right away as the roaches have suddenly gotten out of control. Am I out of luck until I can get one?
@GreenAkersPC
@GreenAkersPC 4 года назад
Sarah Binder never apply a dust without proper PPE or a duster. A duster is really the most effective tool to apply dust. Sometimes you can find the dusters at Walmart. DE is toxic to the lungs so be very careful

hi Jason, is it okay to use pure powdered sulfur to kill roaches? I saw a comment on a video that said that pure powdered sulfur kills all ants, roaches, snakes, spiders, and most crawling creatures. Also, do you think it would be helpful to add sugar to boric acid when you dust for german cockroaches? thanks for all the helpful videos.
@GreenAkersPC

? There is no need to mix sugar if the boric acid is applied right. I would not use sulfur to kill bugs

I can understand poisons requiring only a light coating, but for some reason I'm questioning diatomaceous earth working if applied lightly. Anyone Use DE in the way suggested in the video, and if so, did it work?
