The Gold Rusher (Gold Rush Riff)
Recipe
1.5 oz of bourbon
.75 oz of lemon juice
.5 oz fernet-branca
.5 oz ginger syrup
.5 oz arbol chili honey syrup*
1 dash of my house bitters
Ice
Garnish dehydrated lemon and arbol chili
Instructions
Add all ingredients into shaker and shake until desired temp/dilution. Double strain over rock. Garnish with dehydrated lemon and arbol chili.
*Arbol chili honey recipe (yes this is pretty spicy)
10-12 arbol chilis
4oz of honey
1 oz of water
Add chilis to a sauce pan and roast on medium low until fragrant (I tried to get them fragrant but not burn them). Add honey and water until the liquids combine. I pulled off stove and steeped until desired spice level. That took about 10 min. Strain into container and add 1 pepper (optional).

Ok so this might be a riff of a riff but my notes I had spicy honey written down but when I looked at the article again it was wasn’t here. I thought it was a great idea so I stayed with it. I wanted to give credit to the San Fran bartender who created this cocktail Helen Diaz. She made this cocktail for the 49ers as a riff on the gold rush. She said that the original 9ers were gold seekers so this gold rush worked perfect. In her riff she used fernet because she claims that San Francisco consumes the most (I didn’t fact check lol). She also used 1 dash of ango bitters but of course I used my own. I thought the red pepper and gold drink went perfect with this team and I’m this was created by a local which makes it even better.
