We venture through the woods in the Scottish highlands to find a mansion that has been abandoned for over 50 years.
Sitting on 700 acres of land, this was once the secret love nest of Coco Chanel.
The 22 rooms still hold some remnants from its hay day, the entire interior was redesigned by Chanel in the 1920s.
A chaise lounge, ornate hand painted wardrobes, carved wooden bed frames, an antique fire engine and Scotlands first ever bidet still remain inside.
Winston Churchill stayed here in 1927, where he wrote a letter to his wife stating that Chanel spent most of her time here outside, fishing from morning til night. He described the air to be exhilarating and keen, something we can also vouch for.
It was purchased for 3million after 4 years on the market and there are now plans to renovate it into a luxury hotel, so we may all get the chance to stay here for the night in the future.

It's chaise longue (female form), which comes from french and means in its original signification long chair. Mr. Watto is right. Chaise lounge is the derivation of it to express lounge chair, because the original signification was forgotten. A minimalpair, which resulted from popular ethymology.

She was also rumoured to have had an affair with a Nazi official and there are records implicating her as a Nazi spy. She worked for Walter Schellenberg who was later convicted of war crimes and released early because of a failing liver. He murdered many innocents and got to die in his own bed. Chanel knowing what kind of murderer he was paid for him and his family's expenses and his funeral. She may have had humble beginnings, but all I've been able to find out on her was that she was a Nazi spy and an anti-semite. When Paris fell she sought refuge at The Ritz which is where the Nazis were setting up their headquarters. This was all found out in declassified documents after the war. However, anyone knows anything different please share. A testament to her talent is that her name is on the most beautiful clothes that never go out of style. I can't afford them, but I can appreciate their beauty.

I did a little research myself. This Estate actually belonged to the Duke of Westminster. He sold the property after Churchills stay in 1928, to the Graesser family, after only owning it for less than 2 years. The Graesser family were a family from North Wales, with key interests in fishing and hunting - and first bought the property as they were looking for a Highland sporting base. It remained in the family for 6 generations. Neil Walter Grasser OBE (Son of the person who bought Rosehall from the Duke) was the only family member, who showed interest in the Rosehall estate. Neil and his wife tried to run the estate, but it did not generate income - so in 1967 his family moved out to a smaller house on the estate, as repairs were estimated at £1million. Meaning the main house has been abandoned since 1967, hence why you found the cassette tapes and the exercise equipment. His wife and daughter Audrey still lived in a property on the estate (as of 2006. I'm not sure if they are still there - But it potentially could be the house with the nicely cut grass you were worried about?) The main house has since been sold three times to developers in an attempt to get it restored, as the family are desperate for it to be renovated. They wish they could do the work themselves, and live in the Main house but the financial burden is too high. As with many great homes of the peerage, I read somewhere that the Rosehall estate had some kind of substantial fee to pay off, it took until 1958 to achieve this - so probably explains why the family could not afford any repairs.

Lucky for the Graesser family, it was Coco who redesigned it while she stayed there with her lover, the Duke of Westminster. 'The famous designer resided in the sprawling 20-bedroom estate in the late 1920s, when it was owned by Hugh Grosvenor, the second Duke of Westminster, as she was his mistress.'

Coco was one of my grandmother's elite high society female friends of the group. What a lot of folks did not know is there was a secret group of women whom were successful high society business women. Most of them were Artist. Edith Head, Nina Riche and others of that era. Grand-Mére told me Coco was a counter spy, not a nazi. A lot of actresses and designers did not want Nazism and were fighting a secret silent battle against Nazi. Grand-Mére flew a Cessna over Northern Africa taking pictures of were the Nazi were. And yes it was dangerous. I have one of the cameras she used and she find a pair of SS binoculars when she made a emergency landing to repair her plane. My Grand-Mére was real cool.

I just started following your channel as I was looking for places in Scotland. My ancestors are from there immigrating to the American Colonies in 1705. I paused the video to comment how beautiful the land is there. After over 50 years abandoned, I am wonder struck at the beauty that still remains in this massive home belonging to Coco Chanel. She had superior taste. I was facinated by the horse pulled fire wagon with the hoses still remaining inside and all of the beautiful furniture left. The remenants of the rooms with enough bits and pieces left to imagine it in it's glory days. You don't see that quality of work but rarely. I loved the video. I hope that the hotel will happen, it deserves to be rightly restored to it's propper beauty. Thank you for sharing this lovely piece of history! Take care, stay safe & God bless! xoxo Kat

Very pleased found your channel tonight. Subscribed and liked. Please, if you could slow down and scan rooms more. Felt so rushed, like we were scurrying to catch up with some one up ahead; or were being chased. Love your voices. Sweet couple, and your hotel was lovely. Bless you and be safe.

Nice job guys to introducing us the Mansion of Coco Channel. I would imagine my self over there when she was alive, with a lots of servants and luxury, but honestly I only enjoyed the landscape from the location of the place.👍🙋‍♀️🇫🇮

Actually there are quite a few abandoned places/homes, amusement parks, malls hotels, etc, in the U.S., the problem is that most are locked and sealed, and you cant go inside. If you want to get inside you have to get permission, which is really really difficult to get, since no one wants to get sued should someone get injured. Also a lot of the owners dont want videos of their properties on RU-vid. Recently there was a 1960’s mall near me (actually was one of the first in the nation) that was getting torn down for new development. It was still open until several months ago, and when people would go inside to film, security would kick them out. When they contacted the property owners to get permission they were told no, and its too late now because its in the process of being torn down. And if you go inside an abandoned property without permission, someone is likely to call the police and you’ll be cited, or even arrested, for trespassing. No one wants to be liable for anything in our U.S. ‘sue-happy’ country.

@@jasminebaum9343 You are so right. Also, with the huge homeless populations we have here, especially in our cities, they would probably be squatted in. Do I blame the homeless? Hell no. But when I see these huge abandoned properties I always think about how it would go down if they were in LA or another large city. They would be squatted in for sure. I'm just saddened by everything in America right now. It seems like nothing is sacred these days... Sigh. But you are exactly right about the liability thing... My question is this-what could it possibly have hurt to allow people to film in that mall. I mean, it just seems so greedy to not allow diy historians the right to document these little pieces of our history. There's not much left.
@jasminebaum9343
@jasminebaum9343 3 года назад
@@rebeccagilstrap3507 I completely agree...it wouldnt have hurt anything, and most people are willing to sign a waiver saying that the owner isnt liable for injuries. It IS greedy...think of how interesting that would be to have a legit TV show or documentary (one that isnt overly produced) showing the history of so many of the abandoned buildings in the U.S. And i know people are trying to do that on RU-vid, but there are so many hoops to jump through there too. And you’re right, soon the history will be gone and we’ll have nothing left but maybe a few photos. Also, i think a show like that would get a lot of viewers, and maybe give other options than the common trash TV shows available today!!
@jasminebaum9343
@jasminebaum9343 3 года назад
@@rebeccagilstrap3507 ....also in that mall that was torn down, there was an old movie theater in the basement. It only ran for about 5 years or so, so most people in the city were not familiar with it and wanted to see it...nope, thats not gonna happen!! 😔

It's really rather quite beautiful in all its decay. I can imagine how it looked after Coco had weaved her magic throughout the interior,it was lovely to see the new home sewing machine which would have been from 1860,bit not called new home until 1877. That was a lovely piece of history. Coco Chanel was and is still my favourite designer ,she freed women from the torture of corsets and other garments to which women had become imprisoned. She gave us fluidity,beauty,movement,functionality and above all Style! How lucky to look around this stunning home,rich in history.

What a wonderful property on superb land. The scenery in Scotland is so beautiful. It would surely be a dream to live there,the countryside is so nice. What an elegant house and the furniture is awesome, i really like the settee and paintings and woodwork. Enormous room's the chaise lounge was fab with lovely wood. I'd like to know what it felt like in there, did you feel any presence or vibes. I enjoyed this explore but i do prefer you and jessie on your own. Weird to be where coco chanel walked and Churchill.
