I've been living here in Cocoa for 40+ years. It has deteriorated through the years. We are actually called the arm pit of Brevard County. But there is also really decent areas like Cocoa Village and the riverside. It's literally only less than a 5 minute drive from that trailer park you were driving through, not way out.
I did a vlog in cocoa village. It was probably my 5th vlog I have done. I lived in cocoa for a few years in the late 90's. I was none as DJ Lil T. Cocoa was fun and lit when I was in my teens.
There’s always those few houses in the ghetto that look like they try really hard to make it look like they don’t live in a ghetto. Nice, clean yard and a decent looking house. Those people are legends
We drove through Cocoa once leaving the Disney Boat and Cocoa Beach on our way back to Orlando a few years ago. My mom was like, “lock your door. Don’t unlock it until we’re out of this city.”
It's not that bad. I've been here 40+ years. It's no different than driving through the bigger nicer cities. Crime is a lot lower than it used to be. We have an awesome sheriff that doesn't take anyone's crap!
Hi I have live in cocoa all my life and I never seen the bad side of cocoa. I saw your video and I really enjoyed watch them and seen all different place in cocoa. Thank you for sharing 😊
I believe why so many of us like to watch the ghetto areas is that we are all tired of seeing how the other half live that is mostly out of reach for most of us, that and the fact that a lot more of us can relate to that situation.
Cocoa is a pretty clean place. The projects has green grass and all of the roads you drove down are paved. And I did not see trash everywhere like in most cities.
This is because our code enforcement stays on top of the homeowners and landlords. They often drive through the neighborhoods within the city limits at least once per week, sending letters out for homeowners and landlords to make improvements to their properties. It's strictly enforced in most areas.
I used to deliver pizzas in all those areas. Even got robbed at gunpoint at 800 N Fiske, Crestview Apts. I really enjoyed a drive through my old stomping grounds. You should go back to and take some additional video of some of those places at night, like Lake View on a Friday or Saturday night, around 11pm. They were having street parties every weekend. A little sketch for a pizza dude, but I never had a bad experience out there. Great video!
Also, please understand there is a difference between Cocoa and Cocoa Beach I have lived in both places This man speaks the truth about Cocoa unfortunately it has greatly deteriorated over the decades But it’s still a very nice place to live compared to other places Just make sure you have a decent job Because he’s right about the job market in Brevard County
Thanks and I lived there for a few years back in the mid '90s, from 1994 to 1996. I was a well-known DJ back then, running the streets under the name LIL T. I drove a Buick Regal with a silver, grey, and black two-tone "bowling ball" paint job, and I also had a peach Cutlass with Yogi Bear and Boo Boo painted on it. Those were some wild times!
When u from the hood already particularly in FL everywhere is the same really and nothing surprises you anymore. It's all about knowing where to go and not to especially at a certain time of day and staying out of the way..crime can happen anywhere
Being real I JUST moved here from ft lauderdale . Deepside and pompano . Cocoa is a beautiful place to it’s like country but by the beach hard to explain but bro it’s not ghetto at all lmfao people tryna make this place seem hood is funny as hell to me cu it was a breath of fresh air for me cuz for some of these “hood” houses they sure do have beautiful yards and nice cars and even good lookin houses 😂😂😂
@@AustinIsChillinghi this is Ezealia I used to live in Cocoa if you go down Rosa Street you'll find if they're still there old military base housing at the end of the road if you pass 1750 Rosa Street the house there should be a house right next to it that is one of old military house it was from back from the 50-60s where does kids were told BCC college there should be a native American museum and nature preserve you have the planetarium next to the college there is a old hot dog restaurant that used to give us free vegetable oil for our truck to run off of and I wish you used to live there a couple years ago but we used to do for the neighborhood to help the kids that couldn't afford a lot of stuff we used to do cotton candy moonbounces Halloween fest outdoor movie nights but Cocoa does have a lot of hidden places that a lot of us locals in Cocoa did not tell anybody there are a lot of places over there that is has been filmed in movie productions innertown we didn't have a lot of news on it but we were hit by EF0 tornado back in the late '90s near the water tower on US1 and we had one of the first Burger Kings that look just like checkers
In these hoods, I see blacks, whites, mexicans, etc period!! Hood aren’t always black people. You showed it all, the trailers, projects, apartments, and homes. This other RU-vidr SOUTHERN LIFE did a vid about coca but he only showed some black hoods. Thanks BRA
Whoever lived in Cocoa between 99 and 2003 do you remember the elementary schools used to have the cotton candy the moon bounds the Titanic inflatable slide our street from the RV we used to have outdoor movie night with the projector and we used to have our arcade games on the porch so when kids in the neighborhood wanted to have fun and their parents wanted them to be safe they would come over to our house sometimes this is one of the kids that would help out the community in Cocoa and if you do remember our town was different very quiet very surreal with a lot of history and a lot of movies that were filmed in our little town and a lot of people from the cities like St Pete Miami some parts of Orlando have moved over here and a lot of people from up north we didn't see what I was little we didn't start seeing drugs really until that I know of around the 98 and after the twin towers fell our town It changed because before it was always clean It was quiet our neighbors got along with each other there wasn't really a lot of fighting we did have to deal with a lot of street racing down certain streets that were half dead end roads near the college in our town because we're my old house is that's in Cocoa mustang flipped in our yard and our road had old military housing that was between the '50s and '60s that is still there and we knew we could walk from one part of our town to the other side and pretty much walk all the way into rockledge and our town did have a lot of fixing up old classic cars we did have a '50s diner there is a hot dog place that I believe that is still there that is on Dixie boulevard when you go up to the train tracks and it's on your left we used to fill up our truck on vegetable oil back in the day and our truck helped out for pulling vehicles when we got hit by hurricane Ivan and hurricane Jean our little town has always tried to help other people out very quiet but our town was always cool and I wish I was still there because it was a lot better than the town in Florida that I am in right now because my home town of Cocoa it is safer than this town that I'm in right now
WOW, Cocoa looks dead!!! As a Floridian born in Orlando where's there's NO Culture, everyone that moves here from Fort Lauderdale or Miami is like wtf😂😂YES we know, we hate it too😭😭😭
That's because he's driving through these areas only, there's a lot better areas in Cocoa that he's not showing you. We have a beautiful riverside and lots of beautiful homes, condos, docks and boats etc. along that side of town. He's not showing you ALL of Cocoa.
So would you not recommend this town for someone to move into? My wife and I have a 14 year old and we’re looking to relocate to Florida and this area is much cheaper to buy vs Melbourne area.
This is not how the whole city looks. You drove closer to the Rockledge line off Rosa L. Jones. Where is all the homes along the river? Cocoa Village? Cocoa West? North Cocoa? PSJ? All these areas have more expensive homes some very expensive. There is more than the the lower income areas that you have in this video.
@@TIMJMEANSBUSINESS PSJ is Cocoa. zips 32922, 32926, 32927. You face it and stop only showing a small part for your benefit. Thanks for showing nothing.
Where are u looking. Merrit island has a mall 10 mind away. There are restaurants everywhere. Its a beautiful place to live. I love it here. Its not hood its old. My home is from 1963. My neighborhood is clean and beautiful. My neighbors are kind and we all look out for eachother. Fiske is crap. But the rest of cocoa is really nice. I wish people would stop calling Cocoa a hood. Its Blue collar workers
If you watched the video, you clearly saw where I was looking-I drove right through it. I mentioned that Cocoa is very clean and full of great people. Since I recorded this, Cocoa has made positive strides. As of 2024, Cocoa has a population of 20,225, growing at a rate of 1.48% annually, with a 6.21% increase since the 2020 census, which recorded 19,043 residents. The average earnings are $36,930, with men earning $39,008 and women $35,507. Merritt Island is a different city and has nothing to do with Cocoa, Florida. This vlog is about Cocoa, not Merritt Island-here’s a link for Merritt Island - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lP8e_ikEjhg.htmlsi=S8E1iNheURcdWcc-
I live in coco off clear lake road , and it's not that bad here especially compared to other cities like Orlando , Tampa , Miami etc . I'm originally from D.C. /Richmond VA coco is pretty timid in comparison. Off fiske and Dixon shit may go down , and out in west cocoa. Theres alot of drug addicts and homeless people as well . If you mind your own business, stay in your lane , don't get involved with certain shit you'll be fine . I'm a white dude and I've been all over cocoa and never had any issues for real . I'm not saying shit doesn't go down here because it does , and I heard back in the eighties and nineties it was active but compared to other cities in Florida I feel like it's pretty timid here .
I lived in Cocoa for a few years in the late '90s, and it used to be a lively, fun place. I really enjoyed my time there. Yes, there was some crime, but overall, it was a good place to live. Cocoa had a lot of mom and pop businesses who were very successful. It had things to do for everyone. Unfortunately, things started to decline around 2006, and it has become quite boring since then. Thanks for tuning in.
I don't agree with you. Crimes happen because there are people who don't want to do anything for themselves. They are just waiting for other people to do it for them. If they don't get what they want, they go and commit crimes because it is the easy way for them to get the money. Poor people need to stop giving excuses, and they need to understand the life cycle. They need to educate themselves and work smart and hard. Most of those people were raised by dysfunctional parents with no role model parents at home. Poor people always are providing excuses for the condition that they are living but the don't do anything to improve their self. Those Poor children Most injoy the USA Army and they can learn a lot and go to college for free but instead they prefer to be involved in criminal games. There is always a way to improve ourselves. Just make the first move.
I appreciate your perspective, though I must say I respectfully disagree. Thank you for taking the time to watch and share your thoughts. Your viewership is greatly valued!
"it's quite obvious that you're not from here" Cocoa has a large diverse population, white and Hispanic. We have one street that separates Black and white, that's Fiske Blvd. There's a lot of good and bad like any other city. People in cocoa are willing to help anyone ❤
My family is the the GLASCO'S! I resided in Cocoa for several years, gaining an in-depth understanding of the area. Cocoa is indeed a diverse community. However, the city itself seems to have seen limited progress over the past few decades. Unfortunately, opportunities for good jobs, places to shop and entertainment are still lacking in Cocoa. According to the most recent ACS, the racial composition of Cocoa was: White: 57.23%, Black or African American: 29.42%, Two or more races: 8.46%, Other race: 2.97%, Asian: 1.64%, Native American: 0.21%, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander: 0.07%. Thanks for watching.
very misleading, you drove thru the shittiest pasts of cocoa, the areas most run down. such a small part of the city thats been ruined by drugs and crime, not the better parts of the city. shame if you claim to be a local.....
I really hope that people pay absolutely no attention to your myopically narrow review of Cocoa, Florida. You have intentionally left out so many things - the million dollar waterfront homes and condos, Cocoa Village, The Allen Condominium of 247 units of affordable housing...etc. Your 'review' is, at best, insulting.
I've already covered the downtown area in a previous video. This video focuses on the parts of Cocoa that matter to my audience. I’m not here to cater to your preferences. I create content that resonates with my subscribers. Cocoa has more struggling neighborhoods than it does million-dollar condos that most of the city’s residents can’t even dream of affording. My videos aren’t for the rich and snobby. If that’s what you’re looking for, you’re in the wrong place. Instead of critiquing, try getting out in the community and working to make Cocoa a better place for everyone, not just the wealthy few. Have a nice day!
